  • Walk inside the Lincoln and Washington Memorial Reflecting Pool that was drained of all water and has stayed that way for much longer than ever in history. Watch this video to learn from the National Park Service official spokesman what is wrong and why it did not get refilled after the annual cleaning. Ask me questions in the comments!

Doing last minute prepping for vacation next week and came across the Washington Monument cam and saw the empty pool - you have provided the most details that I could find - appreciate your video - thanks

It actually makes sense because if there's anything I know about the Government and work contracts it is the "take your time" rule. Also it probably wouldn't hurt to be a little more transparent on their part because if the leaking pipe is under the foundation of the pool (and since DC was basically build in a swamp) could be a sinkhole hazard waiting to happen. But I'm not an engineer, what do I know.

I was told by the Head of the National Park Service many years ago that you could actually sit on Abe Lincoln’s lap, for $50. It was during the filming of ‘Broadcast News.’
That is the fine you would pay after you were arrested. 😊

It might cost it more now and land you in jail with the January 6th prisoners.
I was part of the ‘behind the scenes’ crew. But nothing like you being wined and dined with Tom Brady 😂

our city swimming pool had a 'leaky pipe' that required replacing and that is estimated to take two years. Of course, small town vs federal gubbmint, but we're going into our second summer with no city pool. There ARE options for swimming, but those cost money and sometimes a LOT of money.

I hate to say but the reflecting pool I think needs to be done with. I know its historical but rallys would be better that was grass.

    • @Emily.Miller

It’s historical and beautiful because of the way it reflects the monuments. There are miles of grass on the mall for rallies.

I bet the pipe repair has been hampered by “budget cuts” and unions

    • @nesbitstreet

When the NPS does not get its budget request it closes the Washington Monument and drains the reflecting pool. They prioritize DEI offsites.
