    Fascinating...took me back to my teenage years when I received a fountain pen as a birthday present.Unfortunately I never got on with them as being left handed my knuckles would drag along immediately behind and smudge what I had just written.I am almost tempted to give it another go after watching this though.You have a beautiful hand and writing style which suits a fountain pen...I did attend a calligraphy class at my local college several years ago which reignited my interest in all things ink for a while...Thanks for sharing and inspiring again ✅✅✔✔☑

    I went straight from Twsbi to gold nib pens, never bothered with a Lamy. Then last year, bless her heart, my boss bought me one for Christmas. She knew I loved my pens, so she went on Amazon and bought me the Lamy Lx, rose gold aluminum body with a black medium nib. It was a few months before I even bothered to put ink in it, but much to my surprise, I love it and use it a lot. Great writer.

    Tarot, books & stationery go together automatically. Thank you my friend 🤗 I have an obsession already with markers, gel pens etc etc. I have wanted to get into fountain pens but was too nervous about the ink systems + last time I used one, I was in high school (100 years ago 😁) & it was so scratchy & it leaked so those memories stuck.
    Now i can have a look if we have Lamy here & just generally immerse myself. I should have known I needed a Simon-planation to feel confident 😉🤩

    Simon I am an absolute anorak with pens and inks. My favourite combo is my vintage Parker Harlequin (1983), this has a hooded nib, and the Diamine Prussian Blue. I have no Lamy pens but may try one. I converted a modern purple Parker pen from cartridge to piston. A quick tip for you - when using the shimmer inks give the bottle a shake before filling your pen otherwise the shimmer stays in the bottom of the bottle. Something to look forward to at Xmas, Diamine sell an advent calendar (called an Inkvent calendar) with 25 mystery bottles of ink. Well I was a thing possessed all December. At school for English always had to use fountain pens, I always used a Parker with a blue/black cartridge.
    I’ve had a delightful evening thank you so much.

    Lamy pens are really wonderful (I have 14, including 5 Studios and 2 Lamy 2000s). Just a couple of tips. Lamy tests all their pens before dispatching them and they are always likely to have a bit of blue ink in them, so it is best to wash them before inking them for the first time. Shimmering inks (Diamine Arctic Blue): The particulate settles out very quickly, so you must always shake the bottle (gently!) before filling the pen. You can usually see the particulate in the bottom of the jar. You will also need to agitate the pen rather frequently when using it to keep the particulates suspended so that the shimmer appears. Another point about Lamy: With the exception of the 2000, the nibs on all pens are easily interchangeable and you can also buy them separately. Go ahead and try out other nibs. In this sense, none of the pens will write differently from the others (except between gold and steel nibs).

  • @afountainpenawakening
    @afountainpenawakening Před 2 lety +1

    Wow, loved this. Very fascinating how the inking works, I was wondering about the whole fountain pen thing as I am starting to get into calligraphy, well let's say bettering my hand writing by brushing up on my cursive script for now, and this video was a real eye opener. I may want to get myself a Lamy Joy now Simon!!! 😅 Cheers for sharing your passions with us. 🙏

    I have a large collection of fountain pens including the Lamy 2000 and a few Safaris, and my other Grail Pen: the Pilot Custom 823. I’d like to recommend Pilot’s economical pen, in the neighborhood of the Safari. It’s the Pilot Metropolitan. It comes in at about the same price and writes very nicely, but you’ll want at least a M nib because the Japanese fine nibs make such thin lines. Thank you for sharing your love of pens!

    The Lamy Vista/Safari are great -- I've got a Vista on my planner with Kaweco Midnight Blue as my everyday ink. I have yet to invest in a very fancy luxurious pen -- the TWSBI Diamond 580 is my fanciest, and it's great because the barrel is HUGE and holds a ton of ink. Disposable pens are quite hard to recycle where I live so I'm happy to have an option that really, once you've bought it, involves no waste. 😊
