- Back at it again, with the second installment of the Crested Gecko vivarium builds. In this video I show you how I set up Delilah's new naturalistic/bioactive vivarium, in a time lapse format. Since I explained everything thoroughly for Henry's, I didn't want the videos to be redundant, so I made a time lapse. What do you think of having a format like this? I could do time lapse builds from time to time, so that I don't keep explaining the same stuff over and over again.
With all of that in mind, I don't actually explain anything about this build in the video. If you are looking to know exactly what I'm doing in this video, then please watch this video: • Naturalistic + Bioacti...
There will be two more videos in this series, but they won't be published for at least another month. As I said in the previous video, we are going to let these vivariums sit for a little bit and become established, prior to adding the geckos.
If your wondering what tank this is, it's a DIY plywood enclosure that I made myself. If you want to learn how I made it, check out this link: • DIY Plywood Reptile En...
Here is a list of all of the plants I used in this build:
Aechmea pineliana miniata, Anubias barteri, Cryptanthus 'Cloud Cover', Cryptanthus nubicola, Ficus pumila, Ficus pumila 'Snowflake', Fittonia 'White Vein', Golden Pothos, Java Moss, Mostera pitterii (Swiss Cheese Vine), Neoregelia 'Fireball', Neoregelia schultsiana 'Cream Fireball', Parlor Palm, Pilea 'Creeping Charlie', Philodendron Silver, Purple Waffle Plant, Selaginella 'Fairy Plume', Sphagnum Moss and Wandering Jew 'Purple'.

Happy Saturday everyone! I did something a little different for this video. I decided to do a time lapse, so that I didn't get redundant with the presentations. Would you guys like to see more videos like this from time to time?
Also, I haven't said it yet, but Saturday is now my official upload day. I wanted test is out for a few weeks, to see if I could
consistently upload videos. I have confidence that I can pull it off, but if anything changes I will let you know ahead of time. I am also working to fit in a second upload day, but I'm not sure when I will be able to swing it.
Anyways thank you for watching and supporting my channel! ✌️
SerpaDesign If it's the same information keep them coming! Another awesome video 👌
SerpaDesign yes! The tutorials are great as well. Thanks so much!
what tool did you use to shave the spray foam?
A razor scraper.
can we get an updated photo of your other viv with how its grown in
This is gorgeous. I love that you went ahead and did the two as a whole piece, but they each look gorgeous on their own.
Your vivarium builds are always the best and most aesthetically pleasing ones I've ever seen! I'm currently planning out a design to do for my crestie and I will definitely send you pictures when I'm done. Thanks for all of the tips! x
This isn't just a place to house your gecko, it's a piece of living art. Beautiful and inspiring work!
Awesome job, I love the balance. It looks like it extends in depth at the back. As if it's a window to the jungle.
Thank you! I tried my best to create a good sense of depth in this one.
I like this format for stuff you've already covered in detail, as long as they have fire tracks like this one lol. Henry's new home is awesome but I think I might like this one more!
Thanks for the input! I'm also glad that you liked the music I chose as well!
You are amazing and I love the way you add your style when creating all your projects, without forgetting the animal's needs and that he feels comfortable
I really enjoyed watching this video! Although I really like to hear your in-depth explanations, I would agree that time lapse videos are great for the kind of material that has already been covered. The music choice was good, too. :)
Wowza! This is the most beautiful vivariumI have ever seen! What a lucky gecko.
Wow this is gorgeous, so much effort and care and it really paid off!
So epic!
Can't wait to see the gecko going in.
Your videos inspire me man. I'm going to do a bioactive setup when circumstances allow!
Beautiful creation Tanner!! Thank you for sharing. I find this video to be very inspirational. Keep them coming.
I love how much time, effort and detail you put into your animals tanks\enclosures to make them happy keep up the good work and you just earned yourself a new subscriber
Good stuff, when I eventually get into reptiles I’m gonna refer to all of your videos. Thanks for all the stuff you do!
you make it look so easy. nicely done. love the vivarium!
Your channel is my favorite on CZcams! My whole family has got into a terrarium making craze lately and it's great :)
That's so awesome! Happy terrarium my friend!
Absolutely stunning. An inspiration.
Great work as always.
Wow. This is art! Congrats.
That looks amazing, again! Nice work. Keep it up.
Both of those Vivariums look so epic right now, cant wait to see how much more epic they will look after they are fully grown in.
I honestly think these tanks are the best you've ever made
I don't know, but thank you!
Really beautiful
Y'know, I really enjoy watching you make your vivariums and everything, but I like your taste in music too.
She’s so beautiful
Awesome enclosures for both of them
Breathtaking is an understatement.
Omg what an amazing setup! I love it! My only concern would be, does the polystyrene/Styrofoam ever react bad to water? I had hides made out of them, covered in grout and a protective layer and somehow the moisture managed to make its way into the polystyrene and ruin it.
Thank you very much! I've done several backgrounds like this, using similar techniques and they have all lasted long term, without damage to the foam. All were in humid/wet environments like this, so it doesn't appear to have caused any issues.
Time lapse is a great idea.
Been watching for years. Now the boys are getting a Gecko. Have to make sure they see this video so they create the best environment possible.
This is cosmos! Nice video!
Amazing build.
I really like the time lapse. You had already showed a step by step one the last one so this was great as a follow up. I'd love to see you putting the animals in and know how they are using the space. The case seems so small after you fill it with plants! Very lush and beautiful. I guess your animals are small as well?
It's a 60 gallon tank, so it's actually quite large. Both of my Geckos are sub adult, so thier relatively large.
Delilah is lovely! Hope we get to see more of her in the future.
Fantastic job, as always. I may have a few questions for you in the near future as I am planning a pretty large vivarium that will house multiple animals... Anyway, the build part of it I could use some advice on. Going to see if I can find something similar to what I have planned on your other videos first. LOVE your videos, your ideology for the animals you keep (right down to microorganisms and plants) and how knowledgable you are as well as your ability/ willingness to share that knowledge with all of us! Thank you!
Wow that is an awesome build!
Love what you're doing.
Very nice friend! Congratulations! 👍
This is so amazing
Looks great bro
Aw man, you just keep getting better and better!! XD
Thanks! I do the best I can!
I absolutely adore both the crestie tanks that you showed us. I would like to attempt to recreate aspects of it in an exo terra tank. I say aspects as the gecko is living in the tank so it really depends how destructive he is likely to be as to how much I will do and the time restraints as to how much I can get done in a day so he is able to go back into his tank each night. I was a bit sceptical at first about blocking the sides as I like to be able to see in however the benefits far outweigh the cons so I am being swayed. Another concern that I have is that this is a living room feature as well as an animal enclosure and I am really unsure what to line the back of the polystyrene with. I don't want mould or anything to grow because I have trapped the wrong kind of material in. Would thin cork work and let the creatures do their thing to control any problems or could I just silicon it and cover it with bark etc? I would love to hear your thoughts or anyone else that reads this :)
Oh, and thanks ever so much for all your videos! They are a joy to watch and extremely interesting.
This is awesome. Totally want to do this sometime for on of my animals!
I very much enjoyed watching this video, especially after you started adding all your plant mass in (I am a huge plant nerd).
I do have some concerns, since I am a huge plant nerd, because I know that the growth rate of some of the plants you have put in can best be described as "aggressive" and I am curious about maintenance. I saw the pins you used to hold things like the creeping ficus in place, and I love the variety of bromeliads you used. Wandering Jew is one of my absolute favorite plants (and it's so easy to grow! It will put down roots wherever!)
In a year or so, do you think you could put up a video showing how much the plants have grown? I know pothos is liable to take over and I'd love to see how well these have grown.
My only other question is what was the dark stuff coming out of the spray can? I think the other "glue" was a clear kind of silicone? Silly question, but how safe are the dried and cured products please?
I enjoyed the time lapse and the tranquil electronic dance music. Nice work. The cabinet and enclosure look great. You have some skills!
Stunning! I would love to know your source for the live Springtails and other critters you added to the vivarium. Thank you!
Thanks, very cool.
Delilah is a great host. My cresties don’t even spit bubbles like that.
Legend you lad. Respect.
Amazing!
Hey Tanner! You are such an incredibly talented artist! Your vivariums are spectacular! Thank you so much for sharing. I bet Henry and Delilah really enjoy their bioactive homes.
I was wondering why you decided to use styrofoam false walls and if you’ve have any issues with the durability of the styrofoam or any bug action between the enclosure back and the styrofoam walls since these have been finished? I know you were adding these walls to your super cool DIY enclosure for both Delilah and Henry so I understand why having false walls would be helpful. I guess I’m also asking if you would recommend always using the false wall idea instead of adding the foam right to the glass tank walls if I make my vivarium in one of those for simplicity’s sake? Thanks again, Tanner!
Nice work man.. as always. Btw the water in the hanging pots, where will it go? Cos the bottom is totally covered right?
Can you make a video specifically on lighting and how to design that? ...the differences for plants and animals. Love you vids!
Do you use a basking bulb or an under tank heater to heat your terrarium? I feel like an UTH might not be good for the lives plants and isopods/springtails but I’m not sure. Have always wondered how people with Bioactive tanks heated their enclosures
Like I said last video, u r the BEST vivarium builder!!!!
Lol thank you! I personally don't think so, but I do appreciate the comment!
😀
And also the best terrarium builder..😃
I caught the whole idea..plant species helped me to know what to buy.where do you favor to buy your substrates..or do you make some of them..the springtails are made or you buy them where
It’s look so good!!!👍👍👍
Will you set up one for leopard geckos in the future???
Wow !!! Nice work..
I've heard that swiss cheese vine has an aggressive root system that will sometimes destroy glass, so I am a bit apprehensive about buying one for a vivarium build. Whats your take on the topic?
Ohh wise prophet of vivariums, teach me all there is to know!
I wish I had the talent to do this for my future gecko!!
Lol, the music sped up 2x is SO much more epic imo. xD
I built a custom background vivarium and my gecko cant seem to climb on the background? Its great stuff foam, covered in silicone and coco fiber on top. He just slips right off. Does he just need to get used to the different texture? He sticks to glass just fine.
What kind of bromeliads are those and where do you get them?
Increíble 😊
What do you use to pin your vines on the background? Thanks!
These are good, but I prefer the detail with explanation. You do times lapse those I've noticed with the more redundant parts you've explained before. Love that set up though.
Thanks for the input. In an instance like this though, there would literally be nothing new to cover, since it's exactly the same as the previous.
One word. .. *Amazing*
Hey Tanner! Love your videos, I'm basically using them as a study guide in order to create my 10gallon vivarium. I eventually would like to house a baby crested gecko... I was wondering if your geckos like the holes and caverns in the cork bark you created? I have a heafty sized piece and can't decide wether to cut it up into manageable chunks or carve out caverns and glue the whole thing to the background??
Thanks so much in advance, I've honestly watched your videos like a bagillion times, I dream about vivariums now and people don't understand 😂
amazing :)
Hey guys I'm new to crested geckos and I want to get one or a pair soon what are some tips and tricks for these guys and what do they need for heat some people say room temp and humidity between 60-80 I am also wanting to set up a vivarium for them
this video helped me build mine for Burt!😊 albeit not as flawless as yours is.. I don't remember you using so much silicone last time I watched this 🤣 dually noted!
What kind of silicone
What do you do for work? You have a crazy fancy looking reptile room and I imagine it wasn't cheap to set all of that up
Love it!
I know this was years ago but what light/lights did you ise
What video editing app do you use
I know this is an older video but I hope there will be someone who knows: does a panel set up like this work with a more standard tall glass terrarium?
Fab video. 😀
Does it matter what type of wood you use?
Is lack of air flow ever an issue in these builds?
this is literally perfection, make one for me? 😂😂
How is he affixing those epiphytes?
How do you heat it I wanna do a setup like this for my tokay gecko
Where did you buy this ropes ?
I GOTTA GIIVE IT TO YOU MY DUDE BUT THAT ENCLOSURE I JUST WATCHED YOU PUT TOGETHER CAME OUT SUPER DOOPER AWESOME N HOTT 👍💯 REAL DAAM GOOD JOB YOU DID 👍👍👍👍👍 ✌✌✌✌✌ 💯
Very nice video ! Would it be possible to give a list of the plants you used for the build ?
It is. I put one in the video description already.
Just saw it.... Thank you !
Other then the Broms, what are the other plants you used?
Check the video description. I have them all listed in there.
SerpaDesign thank you!
You are awesome
What kind of glue is that?
I would like to know how big your tank is I want to buy a new tank for my crestie and have a background like yours
These enclosures are 60 gallons (24x24x24"), but you don't need something that large. 30 gallons is sufficient in most cases.
What is the name of this black resin?
Hey, where do you get your egg crate?
I get it at Home Depot usually. They sell two different kinds, but I usually get the cheaper one.
www.homedepot.com/p/N-White-Eggcrate-T12-Troffer-Replacement-Diffuser-L2GT-PLTS-R5/100579509
okay but how do you clean it...?
The beginning of this video made me realize that, despite having seen most of your videos and being a fan for a while (even recommending this channel to others)........ I never knew your name. Huh.
Then again I'm SUPER bad at remembering people's names, so I regularly live in a state of knowing people but not knowing their names. Probably why it never occurred to me lol
Haha it's all good! I've said it a handful of times, but I'm the same way with names.
Hi! What kind of insects on 12' ?
Anna Alternativa live
Springtails
Wow!!!!
Looks amazing!! How often would you change the dirt ? I know you added the isopods but with this setup do you "need" to change the leaves and dirt?
You shouldn't ever have to change the dirt. However the isopods and springtails will eat the leaf litter. When you see the leaf pile being diminished, just top it off with some new leaves.
SerpaDesign awesome thanks!! What kind of dirt is this one? I must have missed it in the description box
It's the first link in the list at the end of the description. It's my take on an ABG mix. I also mixed it up in the previous video in this series, if you haven't seen that yet.
Substrate: czcams.com/video/bmSr17J2jho/video.html
Previous Build: czcams.com/video/aSGq-9kbaxM/video.htmlm51s
SerpaDesign thank you!
Which one do you think is better? Delilah’s or Henry’s
Right now Delilah's because it's more full looking and has great depth. However when Henry's grows in it may look better than this one.
Your work is amazing so sorry thought another channel was using your video that you went into detail with on there channel by just speeding it up
😂 Best comment I've got to date.
SerpaDesign so sorry I had thought that this was somebody copying the video of you making this in detail love your videos by the way
What silicone is that!?!
im inspired
