  • The audio recording is two tracks from "Steam in the 60's Volume 2" released in 1967 by Mobile Fidelity Records. I transferred this myself using a Sony PS-HX500 Turntable.
In the first part, the recording, taken from on the train, you hear former-PRR D16sb 1223, in operation on the Strasburg Rail Road, as she departs Leaman Place Junction for East Strasburg. This is back in the days before Carpenter's crossing had crossing signals and gates, so her engineer must bring 1223 with her train to a stop so that a member of the train crew can get off and flag the crossing.
1223 spin wheels repeatedly afterward as she gets her 7-car train started on the uphill grade at Carpenter's.
I am posting this as the audio recording in question is no longer available for purchase, and to my understanding will not be made available for purchase again. This video is posted for the purpose of the listening enjoyment of others who, like myself, have many fond memories of riding behind the 1223. To be clear, I am making no profit from this whatsoever.

Pretty cool video of Pennsylvania Railroad 1223. It is a shame that it and 7002 aren’t in operation today. But they are still amazing PRR engines.
