No, ladies and gentlemen. The true villains in this story are the ones who filled the noise complaints to the police station.
True Karens
Thats True!!!... And they're all dead
No one complained the police seen the crowd,,
Agreed.
I think the ones who phoned to complain probably didnt even know it was the Beatles. If they did I suspect they may not have done 😀 but who knows.. I'd have loved every minute of that.
He is definitely not a villain, but you know who is a hero? That secretary who stalled him. I’m surprised I haven’t heard anything about her, she totally held him up and bought them so much more time! What an underdog
I think l there’s a movie about her from a few years ago
@@masoncc9535 That was a different person. You're thinking of Freda Kelly.
I think he's exaggerating... Thousands blocking the street?. Not according to the footage.
he wouldve been a hero if he had arrested yoko
@@thewkovacs316 Or bumped into her and knocked her off the roof.
Love this guy. He created the most famous musical climax in history.
A Day In The Life
He played his role well
He actually helped Paul to write new lyrics on the fly for get back😁
Actually, he stopped the last Beatles concert. The world never got to hear all the songs that planned to play. He ended everything on a big negative vibe.
@@hikesystem7721 Yes, we are forever robbed of a sixth take of Get Back.
in my opinion, the police coming to stop the concert made the moment even more iconic
Ray Dagg, you are a part of history sir. 50+ years ago you probably weren't so popular, but here today you are a beloved part of history that would not be the same without you. Thank you and best wishes to you for the future.
@Steve Rutherford, here here. So true. I have watched the Get Back trilogy….several times….and could not believe I had seen any interviews with the officers that made history that cold winter afternoon. 100 years from now, a 1000 years from now, we will all still be watching with amazement of what took place that day.
What a nice guy. it's great you can look back and recall fond memories of the day and thanks for letting the Beatles perform one more time...
Greatest show on earth
Yes, he made history! My best wishes for him! 😀👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Totally agree, Steve. Many greetings from a Beatles´ fan in Mexico City.
“so traffic is at an absolute standstill all over the West End” … it still is mate, 53 years on!
LOL!
Actually, in the film , you can see the cars moving.
🤣🤣🤣
the so called "Beatles long term effect"
Wow. Unbelievable. I always wanted to hear his side of the story. All in all, he was pretty fair, it made for a better Beatles' story in the end anyway.
But if it wasn't for the police we would have had a longer set with some more great music
@@MrWoodhaven11421 That's fair. But sadly at the time, no one knew this would be their very last concert
@@MrWoodhaven11421 Really? It was cold outside and they wanted to get through it swiftly. Not even the Beatles are above the law.
@@MrWoodhaven11421 the Beatles intended for the police to eventually stop the concert
@@MrWoodhaven11421 Not likely they would have done much else if they'd have been given more time. They had already practised and selected the 'Let it be' songs that would work best as a rock line-up, and they had got the takes they needed. It's not likely they would have pulled out older material either, as the whole premise for the project was always intended to be brand new material, and they had already seemed to have discounted, (for purely practical reasons) performing the remaining songs they had for the album, (those on acoustic guitars or acoustic piano for example) They were happy enough to jam in the studio as they waited around or just to loosen up, but again I don't think at this stage, as it was so long since they'd played live together, that they would have risked doing anything unrehearsed. Apart from not being physically dragged away by the Police, it had also worked out just as Paul McCartney had hoped for, when the policemen arrive on the rooftop Paul looks over his shoulder and grins with delight, it gave them the ending they wanted. Also bear in mind this was in the UK wintertime on a breezy rooftop, they had probably all had enough and really glad to GET BACK into the warmth of the building.
It’s a lesson: nobody remembers being late for work that day, but everybody remembers experiencing The Beatles last concert. Slow down and enjoy the odd moments!
El haber estado en esos momentos cerca del área de su trabajo vigilancia cerca del concierto lo hizo famoso.
Amen
watching this makes me wanna hug this guy, only because it's part of history... that's how big The Beatles' lore is, even 'footnotes' are important... the greatest of them all !!!
I feel the same way! He's part of the grand story!
I too feel exactly like you do!
He was so young! I felt bad for him. Anyway, Paul was delighted to see him!
He was so young when he was born.
@@doublek321 his eyes could not yet see
A very decent public servant, so diplomatic, understanding, he could have been remembered for being rude, wanting publicity for himself, behaving as if he owned the neighborhood. Instead he will be fondly remembered as a very sweet individual who was simply doing his job and will always be respected by Beatles fans all over the world. Blessings to you Ray and to all Beatlemaniacs reading this, from San Juan PR 🇵🇷 !!!
@Luis Humberto Vega, I TOTALLY agree with every thing you said. WELL DONE!!
Nonsense. He admitted on this video he was only well behaved because he was being filmed.
British police are just different from American
@@strangebrew1231 AMERICA POLICE ARE THE WROST IN THE WORLD.
@@Asshole88lmao exactly, love to see what a 1960s Bobbies would have done if they weren't well aware they were on camera, and they weren't dealing with the rich and famous. Cracking skulls most likely lmao
The biggest surprise to me was how young he looked at the time. Looked like a teenager dressed as a policeman. But he held himself with confidence and self-assuredness, aside from the suckling on his chinstrap.
I mean he was a teenager, he was only 19 when it all happened.
It bothered me how much he suckled the strap
I love the framed photo in the background.
Yeah, I noticed that, too! 😀
I wonder what's the historic value of the original picture and he better sign that one now.
Sir, you made that iconic performance a little bit more iconic. Don't worry about anything.
" Mister City policeman sitting Pretty little policemen in a row"
You should have seen him climbing up the Eifel Tower!
I'm crying
Kickin Edgar Allan Poe
Its Mister City Pleaseman...😂😂😂
@@elchichosantana6410 well dang I was wrong too😂😂 I’ve been singing it wrong
Wow... top bloke. He was just doing his duty at that exact moment.
I’d love to see an interview with him and Paul McCartney
OH ME TOO!!! Surely that couldl be arranged!
I’ve always wondered if one of those policemen were still around. Great story and pretty calm 19 year old in a tough spot.
who did the job his Sarge should have done but probably didn‘t had the guts for!
He probably thought at the time if he arrested the Beatles his life wouldn't be so kind for a long long time and was quietly hoping they would just comply so it would be over amicably.
He was in his 20s at the time
@@strangebrew123119.
When no one is around, I'll bet he still pulls out his 'Bobby Helmet' and chews on the chinstrap!
🙂
Hats off to Ray Dagg. Made history with the Beatles on that day in January 1969. Wouldn't have wanted it any other way!
Hats Off To (Ray) Dagg - I believe Imma shake 'em on down!
He was only 19 at the time😬
What an unenviable position for Ray to be in, knowing he was being monitored by the crew, and trying to do his best. The part in the 'Get back' film where they're kept waiting in the reception area both young Police Officers are so uncomfortable, at times nervously chewing on their chin straps. Hats off to roadie Mal Evans, and the studio staff, for stalling the Police as long as they could or we would have had only half of the concert footage.
Ray just made Paul so happy. He HOWLED at the sight of them. 😂😂
The police didn’t end the concert. It came to a natural end and they had already played all the numbers they needed to at least once. It was actually one of the longest they had played after becoming famous - most of their big stadium gigs were about a half hour. Same length as their mid 60’s albums.
I knew that one day we'll see this interview with one of those policemen who cut the Beatles last concert. Almost anyone who has ever interacted with the Beatles on any occasion was later written into history. This guy is no exception. He's been away for more than 50 years, but finally the line that he definitely heard from the Beatles right after the moment he put to stop their live-performing career - "get back to where you belong" - sank in and he got back. :)
That is one of the best behind the scene Beatles stories ive ever heard...hilarious at the end about possibility of arresting them
‘If you don’t stop you are under arrest!’
‘Please one more!’
‘Ok’
Luckily this wasn't in the 1970s - when "one more" might've meant a 40-minute guitar jam.
That would've been hilarious if the Beatles said alright, one more song. Ok, here's a 30 minute medley of our hits. 😆
What a lovely guy 😊 I hope he realises the part he played is an integral part of that legendary event and that his presence enhanced it for the better. I think it was pretty obvious at the time that he really didn't want to arrest the Beatles but what do you do when you're 19 years old and in a serious job that you hope will be a career for life. He's a star in his own right ⭐️
OMG was he REALLY 19 then?! Because back then when I saw "Let It BE" in the theaters when it was released, THAT was the age I GUESSED him to be. I was 22 at the time.
What a lovely and honest interview particularly towards the end regarding the legality of arresting The Beatles.....
He’s an ICON now!! He helped make the show a moment. Now that I’ve seen Get Back and heard Paul McCartney talk about playing somewhere illegal and getting dragged out while playing, and then seeing Paul’s look of glee at seeing the police coming up? Incredible.
If he had taken The Beatles to the police station, I wonder if they could have made a break for it like they did in A Hard Day’s Night? I suspect John would have been wheezing a bit!
lol that event would've probably brought them back together
Pauls grandfather would try to save them :D
@@andyw.3048 he is very clean.
After seeing the whole concert film, I wondered whatever happened to that unfortunate cop who ended one of the most famous concerts of all time...lol....yes, he is part of musical history now as someone else here commented....glad to hear his side of the story. I'm not pissed at him anymore and wish him well : ))))
What a fantastic interview! Thank you, Ray Dagg! Thank you for doing this great interview.....and thanks for letting them play one more song. 🙂
This guy's actually a legend.
Yes that's right.
For the drama to play out, someone had to be That Guy, and it was you Ray Dagg. Take a bow, sir.
Beautifully said, Bill.
In the film, there is a wonderful facial expression from young Ray in Apple's reception when he realizes that he is on candid camera.
Even back then you could only trust cops to behave when they're on camera. 😆
Ray's a part of history now and performed eloquently in his duties. Damned if it did, damned if he didn't.
Yes he was really in a very unique and unusual position then.
Not great to be in his position but definitely makes a legendary story!
I love hearing his side of it after all these years. The Beatles were right proper asking if they could play one more. Didn’t know that bit.
Ray Dagg, you were wonderful, I know you were just doing your job ,but didn’t want to stop the Beatles. I am married to a retired Police Officer, I think you handled everything perfectly . My husband had an assignment of guarding Elvis at one of his concerts, and The Rolling Stones
That's kinda what we all already knew. I wish they asked him some other things... did you like the Beatles? Did you listen to the songs at the moment? Did you like them? How did you feel when the album was out and you knew you were there when a few of those classic songs were recorded?
You're absolutely right. Interesting questions to be asked.
As far as I know, these cops might not have been true Beatles fans, but they weren't fundamentally averse to music of the Beatles either. I mean, I read that in some book a long time ago.
@@braudabo I recently read he said he was more into Simon & Garfunkel. :')
@Deecky RIzzo, You just voiced the questions I had WISHED they had asked him!!!
As a Beatles fan I don't think he was a villain, as he was just doing his job.
His presence along with the other police men, actually added such iconic and memorable elements to the already famous rooftop concert.
Ray Dagg, Ray Dagg, Ray Dagg to where you once belonged.
He was unbelievably patient! I kept thinking how different those interactions would have been in the States!
What a lovely interview! It’s so great that we get to see gems like this, understand the motivation of all the agents involved- some of whom are just trying to do the right thing
I always thought the young cop in the scene was incredibly professional and diplomatic throughout and handled the whole affair rather well. And I always wondered what happened to him. Cheers
Thank you so much for this interview!
Fantastic video. Should definitely meet up with Paul and Ringo
yeah!! that would be awesome
Up on that very roof of course,...that would be a magical reunion.
He could finally arrest them after all these years. "You're nicked McCartney!"
@@gwangi64 The Japanese beat him to it already.
They ended their show when they were done. They only did those five songs that were rehearsed rockers. They did not want to do any slow tunes like The Long and Winding Road or Let It Be on the roof top. It was a sad ending...
That's what I thought too
Literally one more ... the best encore eveeeerrrrr . Thank you mate!
Loved the interview, you did your job and its all of history now, well done👍
This is so great. Imagine if he wouldn't have let them play Get Back at the end. Imagine if we wouldn't have had that.
I was annoyed with him when I watched Get Back, but I'm not anymore. The guy was just doing his job.
Love this interview thank you mr dagg
I watched The Beatles "Get Back" documentary on Disney +. The last hour was IMO one of the most entertaining things I have ever see. Even though I knew it would be The Beatles jamming on the roof of Apple, I had no idea about everything else that was going on. The British Bobbies candor as well as people's reaction on the street was interesting & entertaining. Must see & high quality documentary for sure.🤘😀🤘👍✌️
Awesome interview! I remember him very well from the movie/film Let It Be and new Get Back, his photo from 1969 is shown in the background. Mal Evans opened him the door and talk to him. You're part of The Beatles story, Sir 🙂
Thanks for posting. Very interesting to hear the story from his point of view.
Now that I saw "Get back" on November 2021 (wich gives you a great context of that legendary concert) They were really done right in the moment the officers got upstairs to the rooftop, there was 5 songs planned to be recorded with a live sound and they made it! They maybe could've done little more takes but that was it, it's not like the officer stop 'em to play another 5 songs you know.
“You’ve been playing on the roofs again. You know your mommy doesn’t like that! She’s gonna have you arrested!”
Awesome POV, you are part of history. FOREVER
It was blindingly obvious that the young coppers had been told to go sort it out from their boss & by the look on the cops faces they really didn’t wanna be there
Great story! And what a thoroughly pleasant chap!
What an interesting perspective - thanks for sharing that bit. Cheers!
Great interview.
Fabulous story. Thank you very much!
Barty
What a lovely guy. Love the fact that he’s spent some time in reflection over this situation.
Sooo young then, now he's famous........well.
What a gentleman 👌
"I knew we had to behave well because we were being filmed".... Yeah, that guy is a cop
Kind of like the Stealers Wheel tune "Stuck In The Middle With You". Mr Dagg had a duty to perform, but REALLY didn't want to stir up a bunch of crap for himself, and you can't say you blame him. I'm sure looking back on it he sees the historical significants of it, and his part in it, and probably wishes it could've been handled differently. All respect Officer Dagg.
What a perfect gentleman, and once a young brilliant policeman!
Love ❤️ You Sir. Thank You So Much for your history
Wonderful interview. Pleasant guy. Thanks for posting.
I love how he looks in the thumbnail. “Sorry folks :|”
Enjoyed this!
I knew it was a disruption, but I had no idea how bad it was. I hold no grudge against this guy and pity him for the position he was in.
you still dont. 52 years later his memory is cloudy... freeze frame 3:17
@@googoo-gjoob I believe him when he says blocking the traffic on road below Apple Studios was overflowing and blocking the roads around it. Go look at map of London and Apple is in a prime location in London.
I thought after seeing the documentary he was the most handsome guy of all at the end. Wished for this one to happen ! Always wondering who was he and how he was feeling after all, although they have to ask him more about his feelings by being there in the same stage with these idols ,love from Athens ,Greece ♥️
What an incredible tale to tell the Grandkids 😅.
wow, i never thought id hear from him again but its crazy to hear his perspective on things
A hero Ray, immortalised, forever part of the rooftop concert.
I love that picture of him in the back there.
This is so cool!
Ray.....every story needs an antagonist.....you did beautifully.
Take a bow Sir!
Little did he know that this would be the highlight of his career - how lucky can you get !!!!
Dear Ray, you had a historic opportunity to be in the right place at the right time. I would give half a century of life for those half hours in 3 Savile Row
He is climax in the Beatles Get Back documentary, now he is part of the music history. We love you, Sir.
It actually worked out for them because they really only had 5 songs they were going to perform, hence doing a few of them more than once. Now if he had ended it after 3 songs, that would have been crappy.
This was great, but it should also show at least a few seconds of footage of him from the movie, for comparison. At least there's the picture in the back.
I love this!
He was pretty polite with them to be honest, he was just doing his job
It wasn’t noise it was fab music coming from the Beatles
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm i'm gonna give this officer a pass
Beautiful.
great interesting post. what a tough position to be in.
Absolute hero
“…There’s so many there to meet.”
What a legend
We owe him for helping record an alternate version of Get Back.
Fantastic interview- you helped make history Ray!
It is a shame that those days are long gone.
