  • A “barn-find” brought to us by one of the Clifton Forge School of the Arts Woodworking instructors Joe Wood. Joe cleaned and repaired the legs for this project as well as helped with the rigging of the hoist to place it where it could be restored.
After the 400-plus-pound block was lifted onto its legs it was placed on a platform equipped with castors for easy placement in our gallery area. The piece was lightly sanded and thoroughly cleaned. Mineral oil was the original wood treatment at the time of its construction in 1930 and was reapplied in liberal amounts.
No wax or other chemicals are used on the surface. A light coating of mineral oil is all that's required to maintain the wood's natural luster.
