    We’ve done a couple artists on this show now where we link the music of an artist back to their image. I think it’s crucial to look at the bigger picture when analyzing a musician because understanding where someone is coming from will often give you important clues about their reasoning behind certain musical choices...

    Noah "40" Shebib (Drake's engineer and producer) did an interview on Pensado's Place and said Drake has the worst timing ever, "he can't even tap out eighth note hi-hats, let alone triplets." But Drake told him "I don't hear the beats, I hear the spaces in between the beats" which is something I thought would be interesting to add to your breakdown of how he skips the downbeats.

    As a writer, there are certain elements to his breakdown that are purely assumption. As in, assuming these things are done purposefully. It's just a Drake's style. If you let 20 rappers listen to the same beat, you'll have 20 different songs afterwards. Sure, there are a lot of copycat rappers out here (Drake included) but when writing naturally, everyone should vibe with certain elements of the beat and the flow should mimic that. The part about the "breath" that can easily be edited out by the engineer.

    As a fellow German I never heard Drake's music on mainstream radio. Hotline Bling is the only song I've ever heard of before because it got meme'd to death.

    I just want to say this
    As a producer:
    We normally eq drums not reduce sample rate just eq the lows so that they are fuller and they sound better, I personally do this a lot. this also gives the most bass. this is trap hip hop producing 101.
    We also cut of low frequencies of the vocals so they dont clash with the low frequencies, to also make the bass sound louder. also trap also removes breathing in songs and the vocals are very compressed also the tracks so if anyone wants these effects, this is how.

    I would totally pay for a course in which you explain secrets artist use to make hit songs, such as Taylor swift, Katy, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber etc. I know all of these artist have some kind of tools (if not a formula) that they keep on using within their songs. We just don't notice them but they do it on purpose

    • @parousiaelyon1
      @parousiaelyon1 Před 6 lety +2

      the formula's you can find by breaking apart the songs but you will never be able to write a hit song just using formulas. You either got it or you don't. Of course there are certain rules that all hit songs have, but to people that write them it just comes naturally. Its inspiration. The difference between a hit melody and a regular melody is the hit melody is so natural, it is like talking but with music. The first time you hear it, it's like you already heard it before because it speaks to your soul. The melody in itself is perfect. Writing a hit melody is about listening to your soul, and your spirit, for inspiration. If you try to write you will only write boring unoriginal music, even if it sounds good it will be unoriginal.
