  • Biology is all around us, and thoughtful engagement with biology is important for the health and welfare of society. However, many people dislike biology and avoid engaging in society's big biological issues. Author, biologist, and learning scientist Melanie Peffer explains biology in a different light through our everyday experiences, and shows how rethinking biology can positively impact your life. Melanie Peffer is the best-selling author of Biology Everywhere: How the science of life matters to everyday life. Biology Everywhere is a journey through the science of life as told through our daily experiences. Dr. Peffer is also on faculty at the University of Colorado Boulder where she studies how people learn and understand science, and teaches introductory biology courses as part of the Health Professionals Residential Academic Program. She also leads workshops and coaches scientists on effective science communication to the general public. Melanie enjoys playing her flute and piccolo and enjoying all that Colorado has to offer in the great outdoors with her husband and son. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
