  • Today's video is all about what budgies love and hate. I've compiled 10 main likes and dislikes of budgies that I've discovered over the years. Of course, there are more things than just these in the video but I think these sum up quite well how budgies are wired.
    Do you recognize any of these points I've mentioned in the video? Feel free to share your personal experiences! Perhaps you also have other things to add that your budgies love and hate. Feel free to share :)
    I hope you'll enjoy "10 Things Budgies LOVE and HATE"! And I hope it#ll understand your birds just a bit better to provide them with the best life that you can.

    Hello Misty and Blue. Happy to see you again . I enjoyed your presentation on the likes and hates of budgies. Very well put together.
    I have been fortunate to experience a house full of budgies over the past 17 years. Fifteen together at once. They do love the company of one another with as much human contact as you are willing to give them. We also kept their cage open all day long for exercise and the sense of feeling free and safe in their environment. Good natural light in the room , especially a window view inspires them to sing more and be more active. Our budgies also loved listening to classical music and jazz . They even recognized some of the music. Music is good for them especially if they are home alone. Not too loud of course.
    Thank you for sharing your tips. Always enjoy them. 😊

      Thanks so much for your lovely comment! That’s why I make the videos in the end :) Thanks for your additional points! Indeed, music can also be very good for budgies :) Although ours generally don’t seem to like it very much xD We know how it feels to have such a big flock. The most we had at once was 23 haha.

    Hi, Thank you so much for making some more vlogs for us! I dont have bugie's I have have canaries but the vlogs are still helpful and fun - I've been planning to teach my birds free flighting outside and I am wondering do you recommend it? My canary actually has a cage outside and they live their so their pretty much used to the surrounding, I am just waiting until they let me pick them up feeling comfortable to come inside the house and play with me, exercise e.t.c! Love your vlogs so much. Misty and blue are so adorable I love their names so much ~ Your such a good bird owner.

      Wow thanks so much for your sweet words! :) That’s great motivation for me to keep making videos. I actually have no experience with free flight outside. With our budgies it wouldn’t work because they would fly away and never come back :-) Do you think canaries are more attached to their owners and don’t escape when they fly outside? I have very little experience with them so unfortunately I don’t know. I hope you can find the right information on this topic! :)

      No problem, SInce my birds nearly all year round are in an aivary outside 2 times one of my canaries somehow escaped when I was training him but he was staying in my garden and not leaving it but he's fine and thriving, Also a few months ago about 9 months ago I was cleaning their cage so I pulled out their tray and putted wood at the side so that they can play with the grass So I went inside and I heard one of my birds tweeting and when I looked it was one of my canary in the garden I would say it was out for about 5-10 mins MAX and it was not coming out of my garden + The time of use getting back into her cage it took 15-20 mins I would say that's how long she was out not leaving the garden, She's fine now and back in the cage same with my other canary. I would say it depends how their treated for them to have a bond and not leave your garden. If you mistreat a bird then any opportunity it get's it will fly away because that's their personality e.c.t or sometimes they will just fly away with mine their really bonded with me and I respect them, I defiantly know that their happy because they sing and tweet all day long lol even some times at the middle of the night they will sing if their bored. @@misty_blue

      @@Anna-px9bd yeah very possible! When birds are very bonded to their owners they will not fly away just like that. And I think there’s also a difference between budgies and canaries. I think budgies are a bit more “wild” 😋

    I dont know the background of my 2 budgies,but they will NOT come out the cage, it's open ALL day when i'm home, they flew out one or two times because they got startled by something and i know i scared them worse by trying to get them back in but they would have hurt themselves!! And they will NOT eat ANY fresh foods, sadly.

      Sounds a lot like our birds at first, especially the ones we got from a pet shop. They were not used to anything and very frightful. It got better when we got two budgies from a breeder that were more adventurous and our pet shop birds learned from them. What also helped was training/taming them. That made them a lot less scared. Have you tried wild grass or fresh herbs like basil or fennel? Ours also took a lot of time to try fresh foods. I just kept putting some on their cage every day until one day they finally tried it.

    i got my budgie Lia only 2 weeks ago and she's not ready to be tamed yet but i can tell she really wanna go outside the cage. Can i let her out even if she's not tamed?

    • @misty_blue
      @misty_blue  Před 7 měsíci +1

      They say generally it’s ok after 2 weeks :) Make sure to prepare the environment before you try: Remove dangers, close doors and windows, provide safe landing spots (preferably in higher places). You can try by opening the cage door so your budgie can choose to go outside if she wants to. Do keep in mind that it can be hard to get her back inside the cage when she’s not tame. You might need to catch her (with a net) in the worst case scenario. Or you can try to lure her back into the cage with her favourite treat. Hope it works out well for you!

    My budgie can't have friends because he's a beak and feather disease carrier, what can I do/get him as a substitute?

    • @misty_blue
      @misty_blue  Před 7 měsíci

      I’m sorry to hear that :( Some budgies really like it when you play videos of other budgies to them (either playing the sound of chirping budgies or showing your budgie other budgies in a video). Some people give a kind of fake (plastic) bird as a companion. But it also helps a lot when you yourself give a lot of attention daily to show that he’s not alone :)

      He loves budgie shorts on Yt so much that I can't take out my phone without him perching on the bezel. I'll look into a stuffed bird toy..thanks!

      @Anna-px9bd Před 7 měsíci

      I am super sorry to hear what happened to your budgie, In my opinion I don't think you should use a stuffed bird toy in her/him cage because it can make him houmornal and he can possibly get crop impaction if it's made from cotton and NOT natural materials, Playing bird sounds for your Budgie can make him cancky and hormournal because he/she cant see the bird and will start getting annoyed - I recommend that you instead spend extra time with him and let him go out of his cage more and interact with you and play with you like games e.t.c. I also think that you should maybe get him some toys so that he can interact with them and also stimulate him like that. This is all my opinion and you know your bird better than anyone does! One last thing I recommend is that she/he goes outside maybe in a travel carrier or harness training just so that he's busy outside having lot's to look at and so much more.

      @@romannanynets8733 I’m not sure if you’ve read the comment from Anna below, but she made some very good points! Indeed, materials like fabric can be dangerous for budgies (better wood or plastic to avoid injuries). And indeed, fake birds and budgie videos can make budgies hormonal and frustrated. I don’t think it always happens but it’s very important to be aware of. We had one bird who had that problem so then we stopped with what was making him hormonal. I guess it’s a matter of finding out what works best for your bird :)
