Budgie Breeding 101
I've noticed there's a lot of interest in budgie breeding, but there's little knowledge on the topic. That's why I thought a "Budgie Breeding 101" could be very handy for many people :) Since we had quite some experience with budgie breeding ourselves - and many experiences were not very nice - we thought a video about the basics of budgie breeding would be a good idea to spread awareness.
Maybe you're considering breeding budgies yourself but you're not sure where to start. I hope this video can help you out! I urge anyone out there who is thinking about budgie breeding to think long and hard about it before you start. It might not be what you have in mind!
In the end, I think budgie breeding should only be done by people who have enough experience and who have the time, space, and money to do it properly. And that's why I made this video :)

What's It Like Having Baby Budgies? 🐣🐥🐣
I just realized That A nest/Hatcher Should not be placed if your Lovebirds or Birds are not ready to breed but It took me months for me to realize but the only thing i saw that The nest is not for sleeping But without the Nest They will feel Cold My Parents told me And We have Slot of rats In our House and They said it is good so they could hide from the rats that are trying to eat them.
@@GoldenNoodle6 I don’t know about lovebirds but budgies do not live/sleep in nests. They sleep on the highest perches to be safe from predators. I definitely don’t give our birds a nest because they will breed even though they shouldn’t. Budgies are very cold resistant but if lovebirds are tropical birds they might feel cold - I don’t know about that.
@@misty_blue Ok Thanks anyways
Maybe changing their place once in a while would help preventing them from laying eggs.
Thanks for the advice!
How can I know if my budgie is too young?
I kind of miss those long videos of yours
Aww, it means a lot to me to hear that 🥹 I want to make another video but I’m kind of in a dilemma. It’s been a very busy time full of change and I haven’t been able to make time for long videos. I need to see what I can do 🤔 It would make me very sad not to make long videos for Misty & Blue.
@@misty_blue dont worry, take your time
I think sand bedding will be a good option.
Yeah, some people use it. Some downsides could be that it’s quite costly and it can get messy.
They are always a delight to watch. 😊
They are such sweet, innocent creatures 🥰
Love your video I use bark chips that’s smells nice and the birds can forage like your wood chips ❤
Thanks for your kind words 😊 Bark chips sounds lovely too. I love the smell of wood 😊
1:02 OMG, put some GLOVES on!!
Thanks for the advice 😋 I tend to forget about the gloves 😂
Breathing mouth open is also a sign of illness
True! Sometimes it’s illness as well
Mine love being the loudest thing in the room, the males that is.
Ours too 😂
Their screams still aren't half as bad as the conures and cockatoos. Those are actually painful.
Good point! In that sense budgies aren’t so loud.
Jolie perruches ❤et bébés belle vidéo ❤
Merci beaucoup! 😊
Birb
🤣
Always enjoy your videos and seeing the sweet budgies.
I’m so glad to hear that! ☺️
The birb mafia
Exactly 😂
Lovely birds ❤❤
Thanks ☺️🤗
What about orchid, bark and coconut husk? I’m wondering if that would be OK for my indoor aviary. Right now I have a large roll of parchment paper, but it flies up constantly.

Hm yeah, I can imagine that it gets quite messy with paper in an aviary. I think both orchid bark and coconut husk have potential. Most importantly, they should be high quality and not treated with chemicals. And I think it’s best when the pieces are not too small or stringy (I once had it that a bird’s wing got stuck in thread 😨 Thank God she’s fine though). Our birds were always playing with the wood chips in the aviary, so I noticed it was best when the pieces were medium/large size and they didn’t come with toxic elements. Hope you find a good alternative for your aviary! 😊
@@misty_blue That's really good advice. I'm striving to make things nicer. In my local store they sell apple wood and maple wood chips for kindling bbq advertising that they are non toxic and safe to use for cooking so I was thinking they would be fine for the budgies. Any thoughts?
That sounds like a good idea since it’s also considered safe for humans to cook with 😊 And apple and maple wood are both safe for budgies.
Thanks for this❤! Iam planning to make one with coconut shell for my sun conure tomorrow.
My pleasure! 😊 Hope your conure likes it!
@@misty_blue He loved it!💛
Great! 😊
my bird fell of the wardrobe and luckily it was tamed because there was a gap and he came to the side and I stepped him up. I don’t know what to do😢 luckily it still trusts me and is fine
That sounds scary 😯 I’m glad to hear your budgie is ok though! Maybe you can cover the gap somehow so your bird is safe 😊
I know this was a long time ago so you might not answer but what does it mean if I’m teaching mine to step up then when I offer my hand it starts screaming then steps up and quiets down but then I put him back and he screams again for a few seconds?
Hmmm, sounds interesting 🧐 I suspect it’s that it tries to show some dominance because by nature it feels vulnerable so it wants to hide that by screaming. Like it’s warning you before and after that it’s stronger than it might look. At least, I’ve seen them do similar things where they try to dominate each other 😋
They make Plastic screening. I would try that. I have never thought about doing this but will!
Thanks for the tip! 😊 I hadn’t thought about using plastic but it makes sense!
this video just saved me a TON of money. I never even thought about discarding the open shells and refilling
Glad to hear! 😊 It does make quite a difference because they tend to leave many unopened seeds at the bottom 😋
I have 2 budgi male is ok he is very nyc but the female one scream everyday to called me and I came then she didn't came near me she is very annoying what do I do😢😢😢😢😢 help me
It might help if you give her more things to do, like foraging or chew toys or some cork wood to chew on. It can also help when you start training them daily so they become less nervous.
Hahaha bro you gotta be trolling with the post-it’s there’s no way!!! “Some people use curtains” I use Post-its haha that’s hella funny
Glad to have amused you 🙂↕️
For tree sap u can use rubbing alcohol
Thanks for the helpful advice! ☺️
Omg thank you for sharing!!! My budgies will definitely love these😍 Thanks again for sharing❤❤
Gladly done! 😁 I hope your budgies will have a lot of fun! 🥰
@@misty_blue oh and I don't have the string that you used to hang it do you know where to get some? The strings that you used for hanging and tightening
Great video!!
Thanks! That means a lot to me ☺️

I dont know the background of my 2 budgies, but they will NOT come out the cage, it's open ALL day when i'm home, they flew out one or two times because they got startled by something and i know i scared them worse by trying to get them back in but they would have hurt themselves!! And they will NOT eat ANY fresh foods, sadly.
Sounds a lot like our birds at first, especially the ones we got from a pet shop. They were not used to anything and very frightful. It got better when we got two budgies from a breeder that were more adventurous and our pet shop birds learned from them. What also helped was training/taming them. That made them a lot less scared. Have you tried wild grass or fresh herbs like basil or fennel? Ours also took a lot of time to try fresh foods. I just kept putting some on their cage every day until one day they finally tried it.
👍
Thank you for the tip.
My pleasure 🤗
How often do i feed it to them?
A couple of times per week should be ok :) Not too much, because too many greens can cause liquid droppings. And the more different plants, the better, so you can also give other herbs, vegetables, and grass. Dandelion is also very healthy for instance.
Thanks @@misty_blue
Get better soon ❤
Thanks! 🙂 The recovery is going well 😁
❤yummmy
🥰
They ruined the wall just like my quaker parrot 😢
Yeah… 😅 They do that wherever we go 😂 It’s amazing what they can do with their little beaks 😋
Hello I have 4 buggies but they don't like to take a bath. If I place a water source in the cage they don't even go there to enjoy it. What I need to do according to you in my place it's too hot but they don't like to put water on them.
There are three things that have worked for me: - Install a bath permanently so they can use it whenever they want - Hang wet greens in their cage. They will use the wet greens to wash themselves - Spray a mist spray near them. Some will like going into the mist spray because it’s like rain to them
How many leaves of Presley/ cilantro/dill can I give my birds per week?? :) it helps me bathe them because they won’t go into the water unless there is some sort of plant.
I heard they can be a bit sensitive to cilantro, but I didn’t see issues with parsley and dill. I think when you offer them a diverse range of plants you can give a bit daily. You can also try wild grass, carrot greens, mint, and fennel for instance. If you do notice that their droppings become watery, you might wanna give them a rest day from greens :)
Great vid
Thanks! ☺️ They were having a lot of fun in/with the carrot greens 😋

Misty and Blue must be happy to have you back home again. They are adorable birds. They can put a smile on your face even during tough moments. Enjoy them and wishing you a speedy recovery.
Yes they always enjoy the extra company :) And so do we! Thanks ☺️
Get better!
Thanks! ☺️
sorry, i cant understand the caption clearly, what happened?
I had a surgery a week ago so I wasn’t able to make any videos for Misty & Blue. But now we’re back and I can start again 😊
@@misty_blue oh that's the tough phase for you, take care👍😊
@@ajithkanna thanks ☺️
What happens if you give them a nest before first year?
You might encourage them to breed before they’re ready for it. Which can cause them to have problems with forming eggs or their chicks might have health issues. Some budgies also abandon their chicks when they’re not ready for breeding.
@@misty_blue okie thank you for replying. I just got me 2 idk how old they’re
No problem :) What does the cere above their beaks look like? Sometimes you can estimate their age through that. And the first 9-12 months they usually have bigger eyes and then they get smaller.
@@misty_blue one cere is like a brownish tone one is like whitest blue. The eyes are kinda smallish
Brownish means that the female is in a breeding phase, so she's at least 8 months old I think :) Whitest blue is usually with younger males. When males reach adulthood, their cere will become a darker blue and in their breeding phase it's especially dark blue.
How much in rota
I’m not sure. But there is probably an online calculator that you can use for that :)
My budgie does acrobatics on the cage while holding on to the bars no idea y
It sounds cute though ☺️ They can be very playful
Plant name?
That’s fennel we picked outside. Our birds absolutely love it 😋
