Thanks for the info on the starter, You have the only video out there that shows a slow crank starter. I'm not sure I have the knowledge about the wiring but this gives me a good start...

Thanks. Remember, it could be multiple issues. Start with putting a jumper right on the positive end of the starter. That cuts out possible problems with the battery, cables, wires, solenoid, etc.

Hi Matt love the vids keep me up. I’m familiar with outboards and about the oil that may not necessarily be gear oil because I have a Merc 402 that appears to leak some sludge and I was confused because I had just done the lower unit seals and fresh fluid and because it was a two stroke some of the unburnt exhaust and fuel makes that sludge and drips down the exhaust tube inside the motor and drips down the skeg so it could be gear oil or just unburnt exhaust and fuel hope that helps if you need any advice about resealing your gear case feel free to ask I’ve rebuilt gear cases as well

Boy - that makes sense. I don't know whether it was oil slug from the exhaust or gear oil. Well, I did replace the seals, so if it was gear oil, that should take care of that...

The fact that I was not getting a spark (see previous videos) for a long time (like a year), makes me think it actually was 2-stroke oil. It was going into the cylinder, not burning, and getting pushed out the exhaust. The gas evaporated, but the oil ran out the exhaust tube. Hmmmm. Good catch.

I have the leaking gas sludge problem with my 55hp Evinrude also. If I unplug the gas line at the motor when not in use it stops.

It's not a bad seal in the gear case. That oil from the exhaust is very common when the motor is out of water - especially when run (even briefly) at idle speed.

Yes. You are right. The upside is that I now know how to replace the seal.

Does the motor not pee? I know it’s not the problem but just curious never seen water coming out

The problem it looked like It didn't have any water hooked up to the motor is why no pee.
