5:06 and 10:50 - This is wrong - there was no timing change in season of 2016-17. David King is either mistaking this for the timing change in 2005 (which resulted in fewer flicks) or the timing change in the same season for Sabre - which would not affect the foil meta at all. This is actually scary, because Karim mentions the 2005 one a lot (since this is one of the only fencing related knowledge that Karim knows), but given how often Karim mentions this while David is co-commentating, I truly believe that David has Dementia, and should retire immediately to seek medical attention. It's ironic that David would accuse someone with 'an unhealthy amount of knowledge in the intricacies of the sport' when he has an unhealthy lack of knowledge on the sport that he has been commentating for 4 years (as of 2017)
Description: This is my favorite USA v Italy match-up The 2012 to 2016 Olympic cycle saw Italy as the most dominant team. At London 2012, France could not medal, Russia could not medal, China could not medal, USA could not medal. All that could "compete" with Italy were Japan and Germany - and even then, their chance of victory was not even close to 50/50. Since the 2012 Olympics, Team USA finally became a big player, with Miles Chamley-Watson winning the 2013 Individual World Championships, Race Imboden becoming World Number 1 in the Season of 2014-15, and Alexander Massialas and Gerek Meinhardt both medalling at the 2015 Individual World Championships, while the former also won Silver at the Rio Olympics and was World Number 1 in the Seasons of 2015-16 and 2016-17. While Team USA was rising in the lead up to the Rio Olympics Team Italy had been mellowing. While Italy went into Rio as the reigning World Champions, it was clear that they were not the at the same strength as in 2012. Cassara was getting less reliable, Garozzo has only been on the team for one season, Aspromonte got bored of being good at fencing, Avola just isn't a replacement for Cassara or Baldini, and Baldini's style just was no longer viable in the new march-based foil meta. Team USA beat Italy at the Rio Olympics Bronze Medal match, but after Rio, Massialas focused on his studies, Meinhardt wrestled with retirement, and Imboden struggled with his new coach Sergei Golubitsky. In Italy, Baldini retired and Garozzo took the anchor spot. Foconi also joined the team, which was a much needed addition. These new line-ups saw the two teams clash on partial strengths a few times in the season. Now it's the World Championships and the two teams are at full strengths to fight for who will be the most dominant team for the next Olympic cycle. Their match-ups in this season: Tokyo 2016 - USA 45 - 34 Italy Paris 2017 - USA 44 - 45 Italy Bonn 2017 - USA 20 - 40 Italy (Without Massialas) Side notes: A few days previously, Garozzo defeated Imboden 15-14 in the quarterfinals to medal in the individual event. As of the season of 2022 Imboden has still yet to win an Individual World Championships medal - the only member of the "Original 4 plus Itkin" to not do so. This was also the first Team Foil Finals that Miles has fenced in.
I love how little the commentators like each other/work with each other. Whenever Karim asks David a question he gives such a garbage answer if he manages to get one out at all. At the start of Mile's first bout they have a little miss-communication about whether or not to say the name of a sponsor.
this match is really fun to watch, but sometimes I hope the FIE would just fire the commentators, nothing is better than whatever this shit show is. They irritate me cuz like that is what someone new to fencing will be listening to and could be someone’s first impression of the sport. They always try and fail to explain the rules in a simple manner and they have no idea what is going on on the piste, its almost like they’re just going through the fencer’s profile as the the match goes on.

Many good Italian fighters in this Final match
39:42 David doesn't know who's fencing, corrects his pronunciation of the wrong fencer's name. Karim literally has to remind him who's on.
Good find
Even worse, I think that his first pronunciation of Avola is probably more correct
18:13 is the moment Italy wins the match.

Just sometimes?
54:03 WHAT???? Why would you say this? Literally just an insult, the follow up point was just found later by saying what just happened. Unbelievable.
Classic David moment
25:39 David King is absolutely useless
I think there's an error in the chapter titles, you have Imboden v Foconi and then Massialas v Foconi @22:12, should be Massialas v Avola
Well spotted, thanks, changing it now
@@Dancingtuna Nice, keep up the good work!
