    You always have the most practical and well explained videos. Thanks Vic! With this one, you nailed it the way you changed the scenes up during the dialog. I've been trying to achieve this for a long time and have lately been using note cards so it's planned but not totally scripted which is helping. P.S. The ND filters should be a must have for everyone IMHO, at least the 3-pack.

    Your footage looks great. I'm wondering if shooting at 30fps with SS of 1/60 will be even better. For me on most movies I can't stand the judder that is produced on the 24fps (although I didn't really notice it in your video). I think in fast moving pans will help to avoid that going to 30fps. What do you think?

    Have a question, I know the freewell 14 pk comes with a snow mist filter, but no black mist filter. Do you know if either the DJI black mist will stack with the freewell ND filters, or if any of the aftermarket black mist like the Skyreat Black Mist Filter will stack and stick to the Freewell ND filters? Thank you in advance for any insight you might have.

    • @VicBarry

    • @VicBarry

      Haven’t really experienced that over the years to be honest. Granted it could be an imperfection on the glass or a glare or something that’s causing problems

    Wats ur opinion on buying variable ND filters for pocket 3. Don u think thats more value for money

    • @VicBarry

      If you need them for what you shoot and know how to use them to get the best results then definitely worth considering. Granted tiny variable NDs will be fiddly to use.

    Hmm tried nd filters before, bit of a faff, you put them on, great, 10 seconds later a cloud goes over and it's too dark, better let the camera do it on auto.

    • @VicBarry
      @VicBarry  Před 6 měsíci

      Ha. Fair enough but as said in the video they’re not for everybody. The camera can’t really do it on auto for the look that’s being described. But look, not for everybody 👍

    those ND filters are adding a gray tone to the video, that I don't like, the new Canon V10 camera has a build-in automatic ND filter that is invisible.

    • @VicBarry
      @VicBarry  Před 6 měsíci +1

      A grey tone? Where in the video is the grey tone?

    • @thorodt5135
      @thorodt5135 Před 6 měsíci

      @@VicBarry It's common for ND filters to add a grey tone to footage or pictures. This happens with my camera as well, but I don't mind because I perform color correction on each picture to fix it.
      In your video at 3:42, you apply the ND filter and subsequently, the colors appear darker and less vibrant. I stopped using ND filters on videos years ago, except for specific scenes with close moving subjects or time-lapses, where I really need a blur effect. However, I don't use it on all footage to maintain a 1/50 shutter speed because I prefer the best look for my footage without post-production color correction.
      Professional cameras have built-in ND filters that are less noticeable. For instance, Canon's new vlogging camera, the V10, has an internal ND that isn't visible, perhaps because the camera automatically compensates by auto color grading when the filter is on. The DJI Osmo doesn't recognize when the ND filter is on and uses the same settings. It might be better to use it with a log profile and then perform color grading, which I rarely do due to time constraints.

    Why are we trying to emulate movie like motion blur? To me, it sounds like an artifact of technical limitations

      Hey Jay, technically it’s may be a technical limitation. But it’s the way cameras and exposure have worked for a long long long time.

    • @davefink2326
      @davefink2326 Před 6 měsíci

      It’s a real head scratcher. But when you see the same video without motion blur and with motion blur side by side, it’s immediately noticeable.
      Video recordings different from what we see in real life. In real life, fast-moving objects are a blur. It coincides that traditional filmmaking preserves that blur, as an artifact of filmmaking itself and the limitations you allude to . Film or Video is always a series of still images that our eyes and brain connect seamlessly. However, if the moving objects grabbed within each still picture are themselves crystal clear, we as viewers sense something is off, unnatural, not real. That is, of course, because those moving objects seen by our own eyes never look crystal clear.
      Director Steven Spielberg deliberately turned this rule on its head in the opening sequences of Saving Private Ryan. Absolutely zero motion blur makes it hyper-immersive, nightmarish.

      Try watching the footage on a 65" TV and you'll realise it's not. Every single movie known to man will have used filters to create motion blur. You may not notice it most of the time as it's naturally what your eyes see, hence the essential need of ND filters. You ask Star Wars to make their next film without motion blur. You'll soon regret that wish.
