Nikon Z8 - How good is it for video?

- The brand new Nikon Z8 is here and we were so lucky to be able to test out the video features of this camera for a whole week. In this video we will show you footage from a music video video we shot with it and some clips from a 90s sci fi short!

I have this camera too now and its my first mirror less Im so excited what I can do with a good setup tbh I underestimated the cost of the gimbel storage etc but Im so happy with it :D

Thanks. So you are still happy with your Nikon camera, William Faucher (in our previous video) said he is still using his Nikon... Looks like when you first start using Nikon you stick with it.
@@Andyax Image quality, build and ruggedness is why I have used Nikon for years for photo. I did sell my Z6II to go to Sony for the stability and autofocus in video. Been wanting to get back into Nikon since trying out the Z9 and seeing how good it was. Now we get Z9 features in the Z8, that’s a win for Nikon photo and video users.
@@waynerm002did You noticed any big difference between the Z6II and the Sony?, I'm a Nikon user, very happy with My Z6ii, but i always wonder if the difference y just to bog?

Thanks Jason. Last time we shot with the Nikon Z9, we had the same wow experience when we looked at the colors. We normally shoot with Canon or Sony but there is something about Nikon colors.
In my opinion, the quality of footage from Z line in Nlog is better than what Sony or Panasonic offers. Sony might have an edge in DR and low light but it's only noticeable in very specific scenarios. I would still choose Sony for filming videos but I'm excited about what Nikon will release next.

Great video! I started shooting the Z9 for video on an Arctic expedition in the summer and again this winter in Antarctica. As soon as I got home I ordered the Z8 as well. Now I can shoot great video handheld in the field without changing lenses between the 2 cameras.
Thanks for this video! Wanted to see the Z8 in use in handheld situation for the stabilization and video auto focus. This is a good showing of this camera. Looks like the stabilization for video still needs some work. I was hoping they would have done some work there.

That penguin got to close and then got sneak punched by the other one :D The slow-motion is incredible. Actually not a bad camera all around, Nikon is nice on their colors, and for video It's a nice thing. Glad to see them taking the lead and some areas.

Freaking awesome and you guys are so talented. I just finally my first short video and used my Z8 just me making some iced coffee. It’s the first I have ever done on a camera and or ever tried to edit. I’m a portrait and wedding photographer who has been wanting to try some short video but have been afraid to try. I have a lot of work to do to get anything decent but on my own using a simple tripod and some hand held, and some very minor editing using a program I just tried for video (cyberlink powerdirector) I’m actually totally amazed what I created still and how fun it was. Like I said, I have a long way to go, a lot to do with shooting on my own and shooting myself several of my clips are out of focus do to the camera focusing on what was closer vs what I really wanted (like the coffee scoop, or more where my hands were not my wrist) I know this wasn’t the cameras fault I just need to practice making it focus where I want it when its me videoing something I maybe doing like making coffee. My face was never in the shot as it was more about just how I made a cup of coffee. Anyways, your video was amazing and inspiring. I love this camera for photos, now to continue to practice some short videos too. Thx and again I thought your video on the Nikon Z8 was awesome as was your subject.

Hei Andy nice video and I have to say I like the creativity it took me back a few years when I was still a wedding photographer with 2 studios one in yes Narvik and Harstad. Shooting weddings outside was kind of like your walk in Oslo, where to next what background and angle. The z8 is clearly a beast but I'm currently waiting for the z6iii as the z8 is a bit out of my budget at the moment. Good luck with all your productions and just a heads up if I see you on a shoot in Oslo I'm going to say hei Doug :)

Who…WHO would call internal compressed 8k60 raw in a small camera „disapointing“? Im a Sony user (and quite happy with the a7s3)…but damn im green with envy right now…8k60 raw internal…godammn…i want that (id honestly live happily with internal 8k60 10 bit but still)…im considering buying it as a secondary cam for that spec alone!

What I’m most impressed with is no gimbal and you still got some clean shots, did you feel the stability was as good as it looks?? Really curious on your thoughts about how it was filming without a gimbal
I wish i were you guys im really new to film industry and im planning to make a movie i dont have the gear tho😢 so i probably have to wait a whole year to maybe Get the money for the movie and Also i dont have any actors and nobody in my crew are able to film the movie so i probably cant film it wery soon but keep up the good work i love your videos and i have been watching your videos pretty long now on my other account❤ i find your videos very inspirerende og informerende og de har hjulpet meg mye med gode ideer😊

Hey guys. I never shoot prores on my z9 because the raw is just smaller whilst better in quality. So as long as you are using davinci to edit, there is no point in using prores.

Since the Z6 I just can't bring myself to choose nikon for video no matter what their tracking is usually awful, color is good but autofocus capability is always behind compared to canon and sony, maybe comparable to panasonic, but panasonic camera renders the best footages with the dynamic range capability which unmatch compared to sony and canon speically nikon. Nikon should be for Photography only in harsh condition environment, you guys should check out Morten hilmer on how he battle test nikon products with great expertise and insane scenarios.

Hey Anders, which Dolly & Tracks are you using? Never seen this kind of Tracks before, and they look much easier to use than regular ones.

how did you work out the exposure? i am struggling to get good exposure with the z8 display..you didn't not seem to use any external monitor for exposure? which log lut you use?
Z9 is heavier ( hence better for stability) and no crappy overheating SD card, ( but I’m sure you know that).
I understand that one need to earn one’s living ( commercial propaganda helps) but as a professional Z9 user, I don’t particularly appreciate Nikon putting the R & D ressources into the marketing budget to sell a new camera when there are so many important things missing in the updates for the Z9 firmware, starting with the time code limitations, ( Canon did its firmware homework so that the R5C could be approved by Netflix), improving the NLog, ( for a better DR, like the V-Log, for instance), autofocus and a few other important tools for professionals …
Marketing helps sell cameras and lenses to better fund R&D resources!
Panasonic does both and the sort of competition between the GH division and the other guys helped greatly to develop the video capabilities of the S line. Even on the old ( but still good) LT they’ve recently enabled the Ed Lachman zone system for a better, way to expose… When the S1H II arrives, for me as a filmmaker, I’m sure it will be extremely satisfying to work with.

Everything is manual settings, except the autofocus.
