      @@MichaelYoungKim Had my very first video shoot outdoors a couple of weeks ago. I went with the 2-5 stop version and unfortunately even at the highest setting with a fixed shuter speed of 1/60 I had to step down my camera all the way to f11 in order for the sky not to burn out. 😅For the next one I'm considering breaking the 180 degree rule slightly and shoot at maybe 1/100 to compensate for that. Should also have the positive side effect, that when stabilizing video footage in post I won't get that much "smeary motion blur" issues. Otherwise I might have to swallow the pill of buying the 6-9 stop filter as well. Again: Excellent comparison!

    Great vid, thanks.
    I like the reasoning with 2-5 first, but I think if you plan on using the vND with just an a7siii, 6-9 makes more sense. If 6 is to darks, you can crank up the ISO to it's second base ISO (in s-log3), which is 12800 I believe. In the case of the a7siii, given it's strong light performance, I'd rather crank up ISO than aperature. Will try to get the 2-5 later if needed.

      If you going to be shooting slog3 (which you should with those cameras) i would go with 6-9

    Hey brotha good video
    But for video shooters could you do slog3 comparison? It has much better dynamic range and base iso of 640-800 and the highlights would clip at a much different level than no picture profile

    • @MichaelYoungKim
      @MichaelYoungKim  Před 2 lety

      It’s hard to do a comparison test with slog3 because all the cameras has different base ISO for slog3. But! If you are going to be shooting slog3 then it will most likely be 6-9 stops.

    Great video buddy! Just the video we needed to see. However, we never shoot inside much so for travel vlogging would you say the 6-9 is a great choice?

    • @MichaelYoungKim
      @MichaelYoungKim  Před 2 lety

      To be honest, it will all depends on how you want your shot to look like. If you are vlogging, I dont know if shallow depth of field is going to be important to you. If not, then I will stick with 2-5.

    Why would you EVER use ND filter in controlled envoirment?! That's ridiculous. If I'd choose one I'd buy the 6 to 9, because in real-life scenarious, if you need to shoot S-Log or something that has base ISO of 640, 2 to 5 will do nothing.

    This may sound a like a sacrilege, but I'll ask anyway. Which one would you recommend for Iphone 15 Pro? I'm thinking 6-9, but I'm not sure!

    • @MichaelYoungKim
      @MichaelYoungKim  Před 9 měsíci

      I would go 2-5 stops. Just because iphones have smaller sensors which takes in less light than the regular cameras. I would rather crank the shutter to get the right exposure than raise the iso to get the right exposure.

    So I’m still learning, but it seems like the higher the number the darker it gets. Do they basically emulate the aperture?

    • @MichaelYoungKim
      @MichaelYoungKim  Před rokem

      Basically easy way to remember is that the aperture number is the thickness of the aperture closing down. When you look straight into your lens at f1.8 you barely see the aperture because it’s wide open (more light coming in= brighter image), whereas f16 you will see more aperture blades closing down the lens (less light coming in=darker image). Hope I made some sense 🙂.
