    driven grounding electrodes never require larger than #6, but #4 doesn't require special protection. kind of like automatically driving the second electrode eliminates the need to test the first.

    what about when the question doesnt give you the size of the ungrouned conductor. what 310.15 table would I use???

      They would likely list a terminal rating and you would use 310.15 b16 or 310.16 depending on what code cycle you're on

    I don't understand the sizing.If I'm building a service I know which grounding electrode used therefore I know the size.E.G. ground rod.Never needing more than #6 right regardless of size of service?But here your saying it's based on the ungrounded conductors if type of GE isn't known?I don't understand.
