We had the chance to interview two of the creators behind Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, Junichi Masuda and Shigeru Ohmori. Find out the thought process behind the new game features, how they choose which Pokemon games to remake, and what their favorite Pokemon are!

Oh my goodness, I can't believe you met and interviewed them! I'd love to meet Masuda.
The two most important things I got out of this interview: 1. We got the Gen III remakes because we asked for them. 2. The developers look at the competitive metagame, including online battle simulators, and try to use mega evolutions to balance it out. This is great. Thanks so much for the interview guys, I really enjoyed it :]

Yet I see no Mega Milotic of all pokemon, that's just.,,,,,odd to me, also I'm saddened we didn't get any additional Unova Mega's aside from Audino, which it itself was a odd choice for a Mega, heh, the only thing that made Audino a fan fav was hunting them down to extinction for Experience points, lol.
Anyway, you guys were lucky to interview these guys, ya'll must've been nervous and excited.
Oh and I love Sylveon amongst the Fairy types too.
They aren't done revealing megas yet.

DrewX86 You never know do you? We thought the Smash roster was huge before the leaks came. Also note that X and Y had 28 Megas, how many does OR and AS currently have 20.

Is it weird that during the whole video, I couldn't stop thinking about how much I want that Pichu plush?
Well, I feel you guys could've asked way more interesting/specific question than those questions. HOWEVER, the interview overall was AWESOME and my favorite question without a doubt is "How do you decide which Pokemon are going to Mega Evolve!" :D
I actually found the interview was exciting, I really like to know what are the thoughts behind what we are going to enjoy.
I was half expecting them to ask about Diamond and Pearl Remakes.

holy shit! 10:50 this means that WE, US, the pokemon fans, put so much pressure on game freak til they actually listened to us, and remade the games. if it wasn't for everybody wanting the remakes, we might have not gotten them! GOOD ON YA POKE COMMUNITY! :3

MrSinxist I'd rather see Kanto remade again and brought to 3D. Everything 4th gen and up doesn't really need a remake because they still look good, that and 3rd gen was the last revolutionary pokemon game IMHO, nothing after 3rd gen added anything that was super mind blowing, well, not counting the most recent games and their 3D graphics.

new pokemon trainers have it so easy now.... i had to play since the 3rd generation to complete it.....
great to hear that they not forgot about the contests. its seems overall as a good well thought remake. but we will see if there are any gameplay changes :D

I'm surprised people aren't talking about how completing the national pokedex is impossible without starters. That might just mean that gen 3, gen 2, gen 4, and gen 5 starters could all possibly be gift Pokemon.
that is why Nintendo introduced things like Pokebank and the GTS and such, so you can either transfer your Pokemon from the older games over or if you can find someone asking for a reasonable trade in the GTS you can get them that way also. they've released multiple ways of getting the other Pokemon.
lordofninjas1 XD I totally get that, what i'm saying is they said just having XY and ORAS you can get the whole national dex. With means the starters need to be gift pPokemon Other wise it's just babies of transferred ones. I have the national dex so it's not a big deal to me i'm just saying.

lordofninjas1 Then you could already get it. Like I already have it. The national dex was possible if only gen 6 Pokemon were catchable when adding in pokebank + GTS

the natioanl dex really isnt that hard to complete, its just really time consuming. if you have platinum, soul silver, black, and x you can get just about everything you need except a few legends. fortunately i had a brother who had all of the opposite versions making those legends easy to obtain. you dont need to get event legends to get the completion bonus. we now each have living pokedexs because you can find the rare stuff through trade if you look hard enough.
I wish they make a pokemon game for wiiU someday, something like the handheld games that have the huge world exploration

my first Pokemon Game was Pokemon Yellow, i'll never forget the day i became a Pokemon Trainer and got my Pikachu from Professor Oak and i'll never forget my very first Pokemon Battle against Blue and his Eevee.
JapaneseMusicCenter Ah the memories :D. I emotionally loved my infernape. Been transfering it through every generation.
Steve A.E i'm emotionally loved my Pikachu but it's sad that i was force to leave him behind but the good thing is my Pikachu is the Same Pikachu that Red uses in Pokemon Silver, Gold, Crystal, SoulSilver and HeartGold and sure it was kind of heartbreaking for me to battle against him but at least Red trained Pikachu to be very strong so i was kind of happy to see that Pikachu became really strong, you're lucky that you still have your first Pokemon with you but i will say that i at least still have my Typhlosion from Pokemon Crystal since in a way my Typhlosion from Pokemon Crystal and my Typhlosion from Pokemon SoulSilver are the Same Typhlosion although i had to train it all over again but it was still very fun to spend time with my Typhlosion again.

I feel like I'm in a very small camp of people who firmly believe there's never been a "bad" Pokemon Generation. I was always a fan of the anime growing up, but Gen 3 was my introduction to the games, so I'm SO glad these remakes are being made.

Wow, surprisingly informative and fun interview! I really like the idea of the "new way" to capture Pokemon, using the Nav, sneaking up on the Pokemon, seems to really improve the formula!

I think what they say about the catching aspect is really cool. In this game (I hope) it will more feel like how you would actually catch pokemon. You wouldn't just run through grass and hope you run into a Pokemon. You would research and then sneak up on them, if you find one.

Hey gamexplain why didnt you ask about the music for omega ruby and alpha saphirre? Would be there remixs or is it the same song but patched up? The old game has all my favorite nostalgic /music tracks when I was little,so I really hope that the music is going to sound amazing! The music and the landscape really set the theme with ruby and saphire.
btw an another question would be if the route to the elite four would still be epic and tedious? It was really a mandom test when I was little
To be honest, I had no idea this interview was going to happen until I was literally at Nintendo. So I had to think up these questions all completely last-minute. In hindsight, I would have loved to have asked about the music.

Here's my list of megas I'm hoping get added: Flygon and Milotic (I think are guaranteed), Electross, Porygon Z, Meinshao, Haxorus, Hydreigon, Krookodile, Weavile, and Mega Yanmega.
i'm so excited for this. i've been playing these games since i was a kid and never once finished the national dex. now i'm almost 21 ( officially an adult in some places ) and i want to complete the pokedex now more than ever, since it's so huge now. i'm stoked even more for ORAS now ; v ;

Fantastic interview! I find it interesting the one big complaint people have with R/S was the nonstop surf and how boring it could be. Well, sure enough now we get free flight. Can't ask for much more.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it funny how Masuda just sits their most of the time, looking really bored, while Ohmori does most of the talking? XD
Wait, masuda says you will be able to battle with people who have X and Y? But the official pokemon site says you can't.
Well, FR/LG could connect with R/S, HG/SS could connect with D/P, so it would make sense for OR/AS to connect to X/Y.
I'm thinking the site was saying that XY wouldn't get a patch to obtain the mega evolution, for example you can bring over a slowbro, but not it's mega stone. But you will probably be able to battle ORAS players with XY and when a new mega appears it's fine, you just can't use it on an XY game. But it could have been a mistake on the website, or worse he wanted to let XY be patched, but the someone else at Nintendo denied it and he hasn't found out yet.
I can complete the national Dex with just XY and ORAS? My dream will be complete. :D
they should make a game based on the primal world of the genre, when they first came.
I knew it! I knew Mega Lopunny was created to counter Aegislash, I mean, inmune to Shadow Sneak but baits a Sacred Sword, with Scrappy it's strong against Steel and ignores the Fighting/Normal inmunity.
I'm kind of curious. Since I heard that trainer customization wasn't in this release. If trainers from X and Y can fight trainers in this game, how do they handle it? Will X and Y trainers show up as default male/female trainers, when fighting them, in this game?

Ergh....that Spiky-Ear Pichu plush just reminds me how much I'm annoyed that the actual Spiky-Ear Pichu wasn't transferrable. I STILL have the blasted thing after over four years! Bothers me so much.
I wonder how hard it is to be a game developer for a game like Pokemon or Smash Bros, and not accidently let something slip out of excitement during an interview.

I hope that they replace the Dive HM with the soar ability, so that instead of using dive to get to Sootopolis you have to soar there, that would be a lot easier. Maybe there are other trainers flying around, who knows?

what is even the characters default name? I mean for example many people refer to the ruby sapphire protagonist as Brendan and May but the only time any game actually calls them that is when you're not playing as them and they have completely different back stories and goals (when you play as them they're Norman's child, when you don't they're Birch's child.When you play as them they become champion, when you don't they fight you in front of a mall and fly home never to fight you again or fight the champ) So how do I know the character I play as when I chose boy is named Brendan, when whenever I play as him he is almost completely different then when the game calls him Brendan. I usually call them the name of the games because Red and Blue are named Red and Blue (or Red and Green in japan), after the games Pokemon Red version and Pokemon Blue version. But even that doesn't even work as I remember an X and Y trailer having the characters be named Xavier and Yvonne, but when you fight them as your rival they're Calem and Serena and in the Manga I'm pretty sure they're called X and Y. Wow this was long.
SolracDude Ya, it can be confusing, but I really don't care either way. It just feels weird for me to be called by my real named for someone who I don't even look like. :P
If you can not put all in one game, there could be a type of account, then, if the player has played the Pokémon X, for example, when he is creating the character for the Omega Ruby, for example, he will have the option "Login with existing account ", requiring, of course, that he has finished the previous game, then he gets the same character and choose a Pokémon from the region where he was up to a certain level (probably 5) and from there he began the new game as if he had changed his address (like in the original R / S / E ...). So the player will begin with the initial Pokémon plus the imported Pokémon (like in the manga "Pokemon Adventures", where Red already had a Poliwrath and in the cartoon which Ash always travels with Pikachu...). When the doctor/teacher is to give him the new Pokédex, he takes the previous one and passes the data to the new Pokédex, so the game will not have that problem that the player must capture more than 8000 ... I mean, 800 different Pokémon to capture , evolve and create in each game... Once he finished the new game, he could import the remaining Pokémon from the old game by using the Pokébank. Then each new Pokémon game the player buy, he will be writing his history in the Victory Road of the Pokémon World! (Sorry if I have a bad english) PS: Will Pokémon ORAS be in PT-BR???
