Not to be a far right potentate. Being aguainted with the United Nations Charter to support the rights of indigenous peoples.
A reminder to Don Brash that New Zealanders are not all the same and one size doesn't fit all. This might be convenient for lazy parsimonious governments but in truth is unworkable. It's post colonial diatribe repurposed by right leaning media hosts to chow down on. Goodness knows what nonsence they'll vomit up next.
In any event, the corrolory of that is another few steps towards an Orwellian dystopia. It takes very little for a society to tear itself apart, but setting one race against another is well on the way to having that happen. In the end, no good can come from this and the time to put paid to the early times of self destruction is now before its too late and before beliefs are entrenched and become tools to control the free thinking and free speach we enjoy. Yet more recently, we abuse and comodify free speech then sell it all back to us and to use in a wicked circle jerk, as part of a modern day Circus Maximus.

Maui is tangata whenua meaning he is the first human to occupy the land now known as Aotearoa New Zealand.
Te Riu-a-Maui is the first name when the land had no water. It was just a continent. When the sea levels rised it formed two peak islands being north island and south island. Maui then renamed it Te-ika-a-Maui the fish that Maui pulled up. When this great natural event occurred of rising sea levels Maui lost his brothers out to sea who found and survived on volcanic islands such as Tahiti and populated the polynesian islands. So in natural fact they broke away from us thousands of years ago. The Hawaiian people are descendants from Maui and not the other way round. Maui did not brake off from the Hawaiian people and ended up in Aotearoa.
Maui is my ancestor. Kupe arrived after Maui renaming the land from Te-ika-a-Maui to Aotearoa.

Well it CERTAINLY brought out all the racists. The absolute vitriol aimed at ANYTHING Māori, the dog-in-the- manger attitude that because THEY don't want to learn Te Reo, no one ELSE in NZ should be able to see Te Reo alongside English in public places either ( because Heaven forfend we be able to normalize it's use and see it in every day life) well, it was absolutely appalling. It is a MASSIVE step backwards, trying their utmost to take us back to those dark days where Māori were ridiculed for the use of their own language and punished for it. Now EVERY NEW ZEALANDER who wants to learn this beautiful language is being penalized. We are being told effectively that WE DON'T MATTER . They hate the language so much that they cannot even bear to SEE it let alone HEAR it ? How VERY arrogant yet childish. " I don't want it but I'll destroy it rather than let YOU all enjoy it".

It's a primitive language - Those that want to learn it should, and there shouldn't be anyone standing in their way... much the same as anyone wanting to learn ancient Greek, or Latin.
But for every average person it has no use and is not important.
I don't want it shoved down my throat, and I don't want my kids having their schooling time wasted on it.

The majority of people in this country have no issues keeping the Māori language alive and we had been making more headway with it over the last few decades. What people are have concerns about are:
      1. The Waitangi Tribunal was set up as a short term agency to manage the last few iwi claims. Now it has started to interfere with government politics and has gone way outside its jurisdiction. It needs to return to its original business model and then be shut up permanently. There are only so many claims that can be fulfilled.
      2. The overlapping of Kura school models with public schools, especially with the shortfalls in education caused by Covid mean that the agenda of teaching kids more about Te Ao and Te Reo is taking precedence over reading and writing. The school curriculum has also been dumbed down and we are the laughingstock of the world when it comes to the ridiculous changes that have been implemented, all with a view to incorporate a Māori worldview. I never know what this means, as it is constantly changing and is probably outlined by ethnic input from the UN.
      3. Unnecessary Māori council and government seats. Remember, for the people, by the people. A person who is democratically elected should think about every one of their constituents- not just a select few based on race. We don’t need co-governance, we just need people to work together for the greater good.
There is plenty more, but the most important I feel is the need for every Kiwi to feel they are a part of this nation. Many of us are not Māori, but we are New Zealanders. It feels like there are people in this world who thrive on making us divide ourselves. This is going on everywhere - the UK, USA etc. Stop giving in to their games. Grow up and chill out. Nobody wants to get rid of Māori. We just need to feel that we all belong. 🇳🇿🌿
