- Chelshe's M3 is the drift car and s13 is the street car... Probably backwards, but whatever haha. Today we put our tried and true cooling system upgrades on so we know itll be ready for the summer here in FL. Unfortunately when filling the cooling system up we quickly realized there was some sort of stop leak or HG repair fluid that caused a chemical reaction, so we had to quickly flush the system!
We got it fixed up and completed the job tho!
We also compression tested it cold again after running it and it was perfect across the board.

You should definitely make a full length video on how You bleed E36's. Everyone seems to do it their own way and hardly anything ever works.
I second this. I've been fighting my cooling system for the last year and still don't know what the fuck i'm doing
jack up the fromt, Fill until it comes out of the bleed screw, start the car, run until at operating temp, shut off, let it sit, open bleed screw, check for bubbles from the bleed screw
Yes please any full length detailed maintenance things on the E36 or e46 would be awesome.
Getting the front of the car elevated is the key, air will want to go to the high point in the system, when the car is on level ground the high point is not the reservoir. Simply parking on an incline or driving up on ramps makes them so much easier to bleed out the air.
This except leave the cap open when the screw is closed. It’ll bleed through the little hole by the cap.

My harbor freight underreported the compression too. I was checking the health of a junkyard m54 I just pulled and was pretty worried for a few days until I realized it was the gauge

I always liked efans because they are so nice and quiet but I never knew that the viscofan is so much better in actually keeping the car cool. That's good to know. I'll definitely keep that in mind
good clutch and the diesel fan goes a long way. same setup i have on my turbo m50 e46
def gauge healthy sr's run around 140-160 depending on which one.
Before I watch Chelsea's vids, I grab a pen n notebook to take notes ong
load the system w vinegar and then flush w the garden hose - the vinegar works to descale the whole coolant system and get all that built up crap out of there - i use it to descale my tankless water heater and youd be surprised how well it works compared to just a regular flush

I would guess the coolant through the alternator was for heat in extreme cold places kinda like the throttle body coolant for cold…
I run a volvo 940 electric fan in my e36 turbo and it works great! that fan is very popular in sweden. but it requires a lot of amps!
They work on, we also have a similar fan here. But not as good as the clutch fan

You ever have issues when running a colder thermostat? I threw one in last year and kept having issues with the car staying in open loop cause the ecu thought it was still warming up. Switched back to stock and haven't had the issue since

Yea Rule #1 never use a harbor freight compression tester. I definitely learned my lesson w those 🤣
They read really weird or low. I would add about +5 psi to the reading
As long as all cylinders have similar compression you should be good. Harbor freight one works fine for that.
I was running no clutch fan but wired the ac fan to turn on when the car powers on.. it never passed over the quarter line for over heating.

this whole time i really thought my e34 had a crazy vacuum leak whistlin down the road like im turbo (i do have a vacuum leak) but to think this whole time it was my clutch fan 😐

you probably already know this but thought id share it anyway as it comes in handy there is a bolt in the block near the back between 4-5 roughly that is the block drain you can take out to drain extra gunk out of the coolant passages :)
( I did my apprenticeship at BMW and dealt with the muddy coolant alot haha)
Yea I do know that. We will do that on the actual radiator fill we do next. This was a panic bleed and clean lol

Yeah you're right. At first i saw blown radiator and nearly blow expansion tank, compression press test difference, little bit grey oil, coolant leak sealer and problem to bleed coolant system, which all of them tell me story of leaking gasket.
But those plastic radiators can break easy, so it could be reason for leak sealer added, expansion tank was from another car so it might be seen those high pressures in it's previous life, the water in oil (grey oil)could be from condension water because car was standing so long and if there is no air bubbles coming out from coolant system after bleeding i think it's good to go!

Yo. I was looking online for a 5 series fan clutch for my m52. But they all say they fit all 3 and five series.

@@gcSR86 if you run the Stewart water pump or any other water pump with a thread on the pulley flange you can put a fan and clutch on.

Has anyone ever dealt with a e46 m52b28tu eml light ? I’ve replaced the throttle body and iacv and no luck 🥺
You need to scan the obd2. Bad battery connection, or If your "can bus" goes offline you can get get a eml light. "Can bus" is like the physcical phoneline all your modules talk on to each other. ( eml is usually throtel body related but not always. If it cant talk to the abs/ or dme or whatever.... it trips the eml. ) I had a short to ground on my canbus, caused a eml light. Had a can bus offline code. but the car ran fine other than that. If you dont already have it.... Get a laptop, the inpa cable , and a free copy if inpa. (Bmw scan software on your laptop) about 20$ invested + cheap laptop. Best thing you can do imo. On a m52tu you need to jump two pins on your obd 20 pin connector to get full use of the obd port inside the cabin.

Is there an advantage of buying an E46 instead of an E36 for a drift build ? I guess E46s are maybe in a better shape I guess but which one is mechanically better and easier to work on ?
In all honesty, models under the m3 for the e36/46 are all basicly the same engine crap wise. Cooling system problems, oil system problems the fact they're not jdm swapped problems.
E46's are a lot easier to find right now and are marginally better in many ways.
E36 is better mechanically. E46 is better geometry wise. But not by enough to care
46 motors are junk IMO. Outside of s54

E46 weighs a LOT more. Dual vanos / ms43 is a upgrade on the e46.... the e36 has a bullet proof iron block. The e46 has a aluminum block that can warp/ strip head bolts with one overheat. E36 for a drift car. E46 for a daily. * e46 is much more comfort/ quiet / smooth on the highway. I drift a e36. I Daily a e39 528 touring with a turbo e36 m3 motor.
