Wings era had a huge part in the BU. I would highly recommend watching Xeceleste explanation video before getting into the Higlight reels from LY era please because it's important to know the roots of the storyline as the references are not at all helping if you feel like you are at square one after spending two weeks on this.
Even here the explanation was all about the references compared from the Demian book. The BU has it's own storyline. Thanks for the reaction

Unless you have read the book Damien, and studied Nitzke and Jung you will need a explanation video. In fact, I often start baby army on this with a good explanation video after they have watched a few MV. It's a good way to show how involved and thoughtful their lyrics and storylines are. You missed all the references to good and evil choices, on either side of the picture is a black and white doors.

Hi, do you understand that a big part of exploring the BU is coming up with theories when watching the videos? If they were to watch xCeleste's explanation video prior to finishing the BU MV's, they wouldn't have the opportunity any longer to come up with their own theories. In my opinion, they've already been given way more information than they should have at this point. The summaries they've been reading after watching each video, I would prefer they would save those until the very end of the BU and reveal everything all at once.
Yes, they need to watch this explanation to understand this. We know that it is confusing, and love yourself era is even more confusing. Hope they watch it next week! It is very important.

because by this point in the story Taehyung was having dreams of the different timelines and he knew Seokjin was involved somehow but when he would ask Seokjin would deny it again and again. This frustrated Taehyung because he already felt betrayed by him when he ratted them out to the principal years prior so him denying it made Taehyung mad and resentful because he knew Seokjin was lying. By getting that big of a reaction (literally beating him so he would shut up already) Taehyung realized that he wasn't going crazy and that Jin was in fact putting on a facade to keep whatever truth he's hiding well...hidden lol. It was sort of a vindication for everything Taehyung has been feeling not only the past couple of months but years as well.

So the circles at the end of the short films were really important because they show how the pairs switched up for this era! Yoongi’s circle got added to Jimin’s to make a new symbol, Namjoon’s got added to Jungkook's to make a new symbol, and Hobi’s got added to Taehyung’s to make a new symbol.
The original pairs from I Need U STILL apply to the storyline but ya those short films kind of help you understand why the pairings were like this for the blood sweat and tears mv.
True! I remember I broke my head wondering why the circles didn't connect with the normal pairings. Much later I realized they were teasing the BST videos.

@@ud2278 Ya honestly I appreciate the admins for even doing as much as they do, but i have wondered multiple times throughout certain reactions why they leave out important context for some things. Like i get not wanting to spoil but the circle correlation isn't even a spoiler so idk 🤷🏾♀️ im starting to think a lot of them are fairly new army themselves. Ive been stanning since 2014 so a lot of this is material ive been sitting with for a loooong time but its prob more fresh for them.
yeah seems many of the admins they have are either new armys or they haven't been in touch with the BU. plus with that whole JHOPE week fiasco I don't really expect anything of them. even in BU reactions the admins didn't bother to just give SUBTITLED full length prologue which also had Jin's cut scene at the end (there are multiple uploads on CZcams itself). even WINGS... the SUBTITLED full story with all the videos INCLUDING the tour trailer is on CZcams. so I honestly wonder whether these admins even know about the BU explanation videos... BST explanation with symbolism and xCeleste's explanations being the most basic ones.
bdw you are really lucky to have found BTS in 2014! I found them in 2016. WINGS was my first comeback and I went deep into BU because of it. so it's kinda frustrating to see when the most basic stuff are missed by reactors specifically when there is a whole TEAM managing the content for them. The formation of the WINGS album logo amazing, it's a pity that it wasn't explained AT ALL and CCW also didn't even bother to look at it properly when doing the short film reactions - which means they were never asked to look at the logo. This is so fun to watch! You guys say all the right things but without connecting the dots. "Jin looks distraught all the time and seems in his own world while the rest of the boys are living different scenarios, different pairs for the boys but not for Jin, Jimin being thrown away into a different reality when he sees himself." It's like you guys are right there! So excited to see how you figure everything out.
Something extra to watch for entertainment purpose is the Wings Tour Trailer. It has lots of visuals that go with the story.

V: Actually that scene had no rehearsals. That fight was an act. Jin hyung's acting was too dynamic that I thought that I was really gonna get beaten up. Honestly, I was a little scared. But when you look at the completed video it looked believable/impressive.I was withdrawing (t/n: can also meet getting cold feet) but I was relieved I wasn't found out because Jin hyung came out cool.

It's funny how you guys missed the background details in the first mv lol.. the two doors black and white.. A demon and angel in the background.. When you watch bts MVs background is so important.. And the paintings are so important too.. The first painting depicts the war of good versus evil. The painting is called The Fall of the Rebel Angels by Bruegel. I don't know if you guys know him there is a rapper called Knox Hill. He breakdown the lyrics and MV so well.. I think about two years ago he did a reaction to BST. He literally caught everything. The paintings he knew about painting.. Anyway Thanks guys for the reaction..
Hey, thanks for mentioning Knox Hill - I subscribe to him but only a year ago so missed the BST reaction. Knox is great - his reaction to Daechwita was my Rap 101 and helped me appreciate rap. And you are right, he really gets into every detail and every note.

I didn't watch reaction videos back then but after his UGH reaction I started watching him and reaction videos of other reactors. He did BST reaction on Live about two years ago or three.I don't remember exactly.. The live video is still there..

I'll stop here because this is another reactor's channel but I'll just say two more things - Knox has read Demian and could discuss the theme of BST. The summaries you guys read are mostly talking about the references of the books, i know its important but BU has its own storyline which is still confusing to you guys. Please watch XeCeleste video before going forward. I dont think you will guys watch it or the person who is guiding you has added that in the list but please she did an amazing job explaining it. Because Love yourself era is more confusing.
The best part of the BU is trying to understand it, not just having someone explain it all to you. People should be able to experience the BU as we did, not just go watch an explanation on it, one that doesn’t even dive completely into all of the story.

xceleste video is not the be-all-end-all answer to the BU. It in fact forces her perspective of the BU on people who don't take the time to interpret the original content themselves. Sure it can explain some things, but it's not the answer. And viewers will get far more out of experiancing it themselves rather than being force fed it. People who rely on that video probably have a very narrow view on the BU anyway.

@@nynex4 I totally agree. A lot of the meaning behind the BU gets lost when people only know information from explanation videos. One for me personally was the disappointment when I saw people excited to the photo of Yoongi’s character’s hands for the new drama. Everyone was like “omg he’s wearing nail polish” and things like that, when people who know the BU know that one of the first moments Jungkook starts to relate to and want to be close to Yoongi was after noticing that he bites his nails. But unless you read the books/notes, you wouldn’t know that at all.
Ever since i first saw this mv tae’s look after jin punching him gave me psychotic vibes.. he looked hungry for blood. Honestly the amount of “WHAT?!” “What the ****?!” I said the first time i saw it was comical 😂 the darkness of the BU is just wow

You guys were talking about the pairing in the MV and how it didn’t match the pairings you’ve seen up to now…and that’s intentional. I won’t spoil what these new pairings mean but this MV introduces the following pairings:
RM + JK
Hobi + Tae
Jimin + Yoongi

You keep going back to square one because the summary provided to you are of no help at all. it's just gives an idea of references picked from the book but BU is not a the book's concept adaption rather they have just picked some theories from the book as a reference, BU has it's own storyline itself. there were other pieces of literature released which will help you connect the whole storyline especially I would suggest you to really go watch explanation videos by Xceleste on wing's era .

So they are pretty on track for following the original journey.
I'm 2020 ARMY and this is my first time diving into the BU! I always had that interest to dive in but never really had that courage because I know I would just probably be lost. They specifically asked for no spoilers from the summary writer, and that's what she did. Trying to figure things out on your own is part of the BU exoerience.
I love that you guys are diving into the BU, but the memos you guys read only tap into the 'symbolism' but not at the story. To understand anything, you'll need to know the 'story' which can be found in the 'HYYH notes' (these are little booklets you can find in the HYYH albums) and the MV uses symbolism to put depth into the meaning of each thing that happens in the story. If you don't tap into the notes, it'll be really hard for you to understand the BU.
The HYYH notes didn't come out until the Love Yourself era. Then the books didn't come out until Map of the Soul. So there is no 'plot' that was known at this point. So they are pretty on track with the 'original experience' of the BU, which is what they wanted.
I highly recommend you to watch Xeceleste video before watching Love Yourself era. It will not spoil you. It’s like wrap up all things till here in the way The Notes tell, so if you intend to read The Notes on your own or not. I suggest you watch this before reading that! Thank you for your reaction 💜

I feel like I comment on all your videos these days but I love BU so much and I'm a huge art history nerd so...get ready for another long comment lol. But yeah more about the art in the MVs: almost every painting and sculpture in this MV (other than the dark angel that Jin kisses) is a replica of a real artwork! I undertook a personal project a couple years ago to identify and analyze every artistic, literary and visual reference in this video/era so I'll give you a few other more obscure ones I tracked down so you can find your own meanings from them. The two statues in the doorways at the back of the museum set are Perseus with the Head of Medusa by Benvenuto Cellini (in the Greek myth Perseus son of Zeus was tasked with killing Medusa and later used the head to rescue his mother from King Polydectes) and a sculpture of Livia Drusilla the wife of the Roman emperor Augustus and mother of the emperor Tiberius; the ceiling of the fancy chandelier room features a fresco from the Ljubljana Cathedral painted by Giulio Quaglio the Younger which primarily depicts (to my knowledge) the ascension of Christ and some stories from the life of St. Nicholas and this one appears in the Japanese MV as well; the other busts in the museum set include the Diana of Versailles (Roman version of Artemis goddess of the hunt, chastity and childbirth) and Ares the Greek god of war; there is a bust taken from the sculpture Laocoon and His Sons depicting the Trojan priest and his sons being attacked by sea serpents sent by the gods (there's actually a few interesting links to the Aeneid in the video); also of note is that there are multiple appearances of Venus the Roman goddess of love in the artworks throughout the video including the famous "Crouching Venus" posture of her being surprised at her bath and what I suspect is an image of her with her son Cupid (I haven't been able to track down all the paintings that appear in Namjoon's bedroom set yet TT).
Some other visual/thematic inspirations I suspect in these MVs are images of the Garden of Eden, The Last Supper, and something that doesn't get brought up enough in my opinion but lots and LOTS of references to Alice in Wonderland.
Anyway hope you guys are enjoying your dive into the BU! And I hope this info could give you a little something to think about :)

If you want to figure out Jin's role then you can try and observe the changes he brings from each era connecting from HYYH storyline plot. Observe if he can change any of the character's storyline since HYYH(including himself)

yeah i appreciate the admin doing all this research to put out a cohesive summary for you guys but i also think theres too much focus given to demaian instead of the actual BU. The major thing of demian is temptationg and struggle between dark/light. We know every scene represents that so it becomes repetitive to always mention demian. I think more focus can be given to the actual storyline thats separate from demian.
The whole Wings era is literally inspired by Demian, and it’s wayyy more than temptation. I would actually say temptation doesn’t even relate to the BU as much as the relationships within Demian relate to the BU. Each pairing shares a lot of similarities with Demian and Sinclair’s relationship, especially Jungkook and Yoongi. Relationships with maternal and paternal figures is very significant in the BU, and is directly relate to Demian. I feel like people saying it is too much don’t know the storyline very well. It’s wayyy more than any explanation video has gone into.
@@ipurpleu1668 Yeah the Wings era is inspired by Demian, not the BU. The album wings and BU both drew inspirations from demian but ultimately those are separate. I said the major theme is temptation and dark/light not that it is exclusive to it. i understand and agree that the relationships in demian do draw parallels with the pairings. I'm not saying to completely remove demian from explanation im saying its getting more focus than the actual BU, which *is* separate. Saying ppl dont know the storyline very well is subjective. The storyline existed before demian was incorporated to better show the relationships. It doesnt really contribute more to show the plot rather makes the existing relationships more clearer.
@@sheetalchand8546 I definitely disagree about the storyline coming before Demian. The original “storyline” was just told in I need u, prologue, and run, and was a bit of a different story, hence why they deleted some stuff from it. It got bigger during Wings, with the introduction of Demien’s inspiration, and then even more with Jungian psychology with Map of the Soul. They are intertwined. The storyline wasn’t just written/made first, it was built around the themes of the albums.

I get the overall BU storyline, but never commited fully to details, because I had no one to guide me and I was soooo confused. I tried to research and piece all of it together on my own, but I still find myself learning new things while watching it with you all.

Suga is Pistorius in the japanese version too. At some point, Sinclair cut himself of Pistorius because he realise that he is the type of guide who just talk and complaint without doing anything. So, Sinclair talk to him harshly some day and Pistorius respond that even if he would love to change things, he has to accept that his role is only to guide others. Sinclair understand that he has nothing more to learn from him and never see him again after that. In this MVs, Jimin is the Sinclair who want to go back to the good realm, so when he walk away from Suga, it's Sinclair walking away from Pistorius. Except here, Jimin goes back at the place where he was still in the good realm (the blue room) but at the point where he was going 'to sin' (the apple). Then, Suga appears again and cover his eyes that force the Jimin who just enter to go back in the other realm. In The Wings Concept Book, it said that covering the eyes is the act that symbolise "looking inside you and see your dark side".
I highly recommend the video where they themselves parody this video. It's funny!!!💜

Thank you to JULI for creating the summaries. I have been through the BU several times, but her summaries are bringing new things out. Also, this time around I am definitely getting chills seeing the connections to the secondary BU theory (or is it the main theory?). Also, there were a couple times you said a VERY important detail and then moved right on because YOU don't recognize its significance YET --its interesting how much you are all picking up even if you haven't tied it all together.

Hey CCW! I’m sure you guys already know this, but there are a lot of people saying you should watch an explanation video and/or read the notes before moving onto the Love Yourself era and highlight reels. In my opinion, I feel like that would take all the fun out of experiencing the storyline as it would have been in real time. Back then we had NO explanation, no notes, no Save Me webtoon, nothing except for theory videos haha So you are just as confused as we were back then. If I’m correct and this is what y’all are trying to do, please continue as you are and have fun coming up with your own theories. I will never forget the euphoric epiphanies (lol) I had when the webtoon and notes came out and things were FINALLY making sense. But it was only that satisfying because I had spent so long being so confused 😂

There is a very explanatory video, divided in two parts from two youtubers (one of them is a musician) that explain perfectly well everything about this era based on Carl Jung psicologist and Demian (the book) and all about the lost of the innocence, but it's in spanish, although it has substitles. Basically all this era is about the lost of the innocence and about embrace all the parts in the individual person to become the real one, that's implied to embrece the good but also the bad. Tae is impersonating the bad parts on Jin's persona. Jin is basically the only real person in all of this and it's a metaphore for any of us... He lost the innocence and now he needs to learn how to love himself as he is, with everything in him, that's why we can see shadows, wings, temptations (apple, smoke, drinks...) we can see the image of our mothers (Eva as the primary image of a woman) and so on... Sorry for my english, not my mother tongue, I hope you can understand my point...

In BU Jin was the only one who can save others 6 members he stuck in time loop but his weakness is he loses his memory on some point.... Each time he missed to save one he goes back to past but he himself started to loss his mind on some point... But in end he save others members expect kook.
V dream gets about his past that how he noticed how jin took his place.
Kook misunderstand jin was the one who in car cause the accident of him he misunderstood others members trying to help jin to cover up .... But in some point the notes gave him choice save himself or others... In end he chooses himself that why jin gets even delay on savings others ....
One point in exchange of other 6 members life jin sacrifice his all happiness and good memories he became someone who he never wished to be....
But in end all other 6 members saved jin from himself...

Okay, so this is gonna be a long comment so bear with me! I tried my best to write a summarized explanation on some of the symbolism present.
“Blood Sweat & Tears” is the title track of one of their albums called “WINGS” (2016). This particular song and entire album uses a plethora of references that link to one book: “Demian” by german writer Hermann Hesse. This book tells the story of a young boy named Emil Sinclair and his childhood growing up during pre-World War I. He struggles to find his new self-knowledge in the immoral world and is caught between good and evil. Already we have some clues as to what this song/MV is about: the battle between good and evil and temptation.
The video opens up with the members in a museum; notice how every member have symbols of innocence, such as a bike or slingshot; also each younger member is paired with an older member, their “mentor”, referencing “Demian”. Jin, the oldest member, stands alone. He is staring at the painting called “The Fall of the Rebel Angels” by Peter Bruegel the Elder. (good angels fighting Lucifer/evil angels fallen from Heaven). He is about to begin his journey towards finding his true self and identity. On the left & right, there is a white and a black door, which represent the paths Jin can go on: the good side and the evil side.
Now, If you notice at 2:14, Jungkook is on a swing, and behind him is the painting called “The Lament for Icarus” by Herbert James Draper. Jungkook is representing Icarus troughout the whole video. (V also represents Icarus but in a different form). The swing could represent Icarus being safe, the Icarus following orders (he is supported by a swing, safe from the wrongdoings of the world). Also, notice the lollipop in his hand. This could symbolize either another symbol of innocence, or Icarus’ age as he was a child. Later we see a drop of wax dripping on JK’s finger (3:53). This is a representation of the fall of Icarus and foreshadows what will happen to him later in the video (JK licking the said wax from his finger, a symbol of Icarus’ temptation that would later come in as his downfall, foreshadowed by the painting in the back).
At 5:19, V is representing Icarus but also a fallen angel (this scene can also symbolize the fall of Lucifer: he rebelled against God and fell from grace, tempting more angels to do so in the process, thus connecting to the painting at the beginning “The Fall of the Rebel Angels”, maybe this is why he smirks after he falls down the balcony). Behind him we see the painting “Landscape with the Fall of Icarus” by Pieter Bruegel the Elder. This scene represents the death of Icarus (he ignored his father’s warning about flying too close to the sun, until the wax that kept his wings attached to his body melted…and so he fell to his death-again we have the theme of temptation-Icarus falling to temptation. But…at 5:36/5:42 we see Jungkook again, but this time he is floating. He in this scene is dead, and him floating in the air represents how Icarus started “floating” in the water after he fell and drowned, connecting V’s and JK’s scenes. We also see feathers floating in the air and on the floor as well (being underwater). So the whole Icarus imagery in this MV comes in like this:
Stage 1: We see JK/Icarus on the swing, Icarus being alive;
Stage 2: V/Icarus falls off the balcony and into the water;
Stage 3: The painting in the background (“Landscape with the Fall of Icarus”) foreshadows JK/Icarus when he is floating/drowned (him being dead/underwater);
Stage 4: The painting behind JK (“The Lament for Icarus”) foreshadows V/Icarus having no wings on anymore which is the final stage.
Now, the kissing scene. (By the way, RM is reading a paragraph from “Demian” at 6:05, if you didn’t read the book, you will not really understand; also, this scene portrays Jin letting go of the balloon. This can represent letting go of his childhood innocence, his youth and moving into adulthood) During the interlude of the MV, all the members run towards the exit except for Jin and V. If you notice, Jin has a very confused and scared look on his face while V blindfolds him with his hands. After that, a white statue with black wings appears: this statue represents the god Abraxas-the deity is a representation of good and evil. It is not good or evil, it is both (good and evil into the same word). After that, Jin walks closer to it, takes a look at it then kisses it. This scene represents how Jin has finally embraced both good and evil into himself (by kissing Abraxas), thus destroying the world of only-innocence that he has lived in prior to this. We then see V with his wings cut off, giving a smile to the camera (him smiling could symbolize that Jin’s growth is complete, and he finally welcomed chaos into himself which leads to self betterment and growth: Theory of Carl Jung: Accepting your Shadow). Again, Icarus but also a fallen angel. So this whole MV is revolving around Jin most of the time, he is the main protagonist of this it (his path to adulthood, maturity and acceptance of chaos within). The quote above the mirror at 8:15 is written in German (belonging to philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche) and translates as: “You need to have chaos in yourself in order to give birth to a dancing star” basically meaning that if you don’t accept chaos (evil/temptation) into yourself, you will not be able to grow to your full potential. At the end of the MV we see the old version of Jin, the version that was only pure and innocent cracking, there is no chaos in him and so he cannot give birth to the dancing star.
Other scenes that further strengthen the overall theme of the MV include 2:52, RM “drinking” the poison (temptation), 4:32, a “Last Supper” kind of setting in which all the members have an apple and a chalice, both signs of temptation; 5:14, a blindfold and an apple (forbidden-fruit) and so on.
Like I said, this is only a small part! There is so much I didn’t say here, and also keep in mind there is also the BU (Bangtan Universe) consisting of a fictional storyline, this MV is heavy in that matter as well, literally a whole new storyline apart from the one I said! 💜

So the circles at the end of the short films were really important because they show how the pairs switched up for this era! Yoongi’s circle got added to Jimin’s to make a new symbol, Namjoon’s got added to Jungkook's to make a new symbol, and Hobi’s got added to Taehyung’s to make a new symbol.
The original pairs from I Need U STILL apply to the storyline but ya those short films kind of help you understand why the pairings were like this for the blood sweat and tears mv.

I went through the bu the first Time i got into bts and let me tell i was so confused but it was so much fun i didn't get to it step by step since i didn't knew the order but after some time i went through it with a youtuber he went through every step we red the notes together even the book and the save me webetoon it was so much fun
