Despite him revolutionizing the punter game, there have been a few other punters that have been truly better like Lechler, Lee, or Roby who were all devastating. What it is , is the influence of AFL , Australian Rules football, players crossing over to NFL . The Aussi drop punt has increased the accuracy of the kick and kicking so as to spin the ball making it curve in the air is second nature to AFL players. Hes obviously experimenting with it and now hes all of a sudden changed how kickers are doin it. In the past if an Aussie kicker tried half of those things the American coaches would have kicked them off the team never to be seen again.

Perhaps 3/4 of a century ago in American football was the time of the so called "60 minute man", due to a then long established rule that a player substituting out could not substitute back in until the next quarter. Back then, an player who could run well and pass well and kick well was referred to as a "triple threat" player on offense.
With essentially unlimited substitutions in modern 21st Century American football, the generalist has been replaced by the specialist. There are players whose main job is to pass, other players who main job is to run, and other players whose main job is to kick. The old time "triple threat" player has become a thing of the past, as has become the player who plays both offense and defense, and in addition plays "special teams", meaning being in on kicking plays.

A HOLD IN THE END ZONE RESULTS IN A SAFETY!!! Quit with the "49ers got robbed" & "NFL is fixed" BS. There are a dozen comments at least about the 49ers being held on the safety. YES they were held, but it doesn't matter at all because a hold in the end zone is a safety, and they don't end the play on a holding call or go back and put time back on the clock if a penalty occurred early in a play. So the refs correctly ignored the holding and watched for something that COULD effect the outcome. A holding penalty in the end zone has always been a safety, You guys know this and keep posting about the 49ers getting robbed. P

As a Ravens fan I can say that it's kind of a weird dynamic when two of your best, most valuable players are the punter and kicker. And it's been that way for the last 15 years.

One of my favorite things in Madden is having A. having a good punter and B. being forced to punt around the 50 yard line. Sam Koch may have intentionally run a safety, but I love punting to make safeties.

It was intentional, and the penalty really wouldn't have meant anything, but the fact that the game plan for them was to hold, which everyone exercised, and it still wasn't called by a single ref, was really fucking annoying. I'm a niner fan btw

Best tackle by a punter was the Aussie Punter the Chargers used to have back in the day. He clotheslined a returner, up around the chest/neck, that was running full speed by him. This guy went horizontal b4 he hit the ground..

Punting is one of the most underrated aspects of the Game. Despite being amazing to practice.
I wish the NFL would integrate the all free reign rule XFL punts had(25+ yard punts can be recieved by either team). It would make punters much more pivotal
