  • Dagan checks out the amazing Kirk Hammett Epiphone Flying V, seen here in its purple metallic finish. This awesome axe honours One of the Most Important Heavy Metal Guitars of All Time!
    Metallica fans worldwide are familiar with Kirk Hammett’s 1979 Flying V. It was Kirk’s first Gibson and established his passion for Gibson guitars. Its purchase was inspired by famous Flying V players Kirk admired and because he was looking for a fuller sound. And what a sound! Kirk still plays the original guitar to this day, and used it on all the early Metallica albums, including Kill ‘Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, …And Justice for All, and The Black Album, making it one of the most important heavy metal guitars of all time!

    Epiphone is partnering with the Gibson Custom Shop to release the Epiphone Kirk Hammett 1979 Flying V, a meticulous recreation of Kirk’s prized original. It features a mahogany body, a one-piece mahogany neck with volute, Grover Rotomatic machine heads with “spade” buttons, and a custom bridge. The electronics are also top-notch, with a pair of Gibson USA Calibrated T-Type humbucker pickups wired to CTS potentiometers and an Orange Drop capacitor, and a Switchcraft 3-way pickup selector toggle switch and a 1/4” output jack. A Kirk Hammett logo adorns the rear of the headstock, and a black hardshell case with a red plush interior is also included.

      Signature models are usually priced way above that of a regular model with the same specs, so that is no surprise. You also get more guitar for the money buying a Prophecy V.

    • @D14V0R05
      @D14V0R05 Před 7 měsíci

      @@yeti1002Usually that is the reason of why signature instruments are pricier than average model of the same specs. Royalty earnings can be anywhere between 5% to 16% so a higher price yields more profits for the artist.

    Kirk's original guitar had a Stars Guitars bridge. In 2012 making the first reissue of it Gibson stated the bridge was a repo with permission from stars. Now the new Gibson says custom replica bridge whilst the epiphone just says custom bridge and it does look a slightly different profile, so I don't know if they've tweaked it enough for it to look close enough, but not actually be a replica and thus cost them more. Maybe they bought the rights, who knows.

    Getting really bored of reading comments on all the reviews of this guitar complaining about the price. Given the cost of other Epi V’s and factoring in the hardware and electronics upgrades (not to mention the included hardshell case) it’s not unreasonable. Sure, there’s an “artist premium” but it’s not ridiculous and this isn’t even their most expensive V. And if you’re not interested in this spec, the Designer and Prophecy V’s are both a lot cheaper.

      Also consider the price of a comparable Gibson model is going to be like twice as much! An "actual" Gibson V goes for $2.5k new. The Gibson Custom Shop version of this costs 15 GRAND and has a bunch of hideous looking fake aging to make it look more like Kirk's actual guitar. No thanks.

    Today I tried one for an hour. Beautiful guitar, Indian Laurel not too dry, overall good quality control, set up to be reviewed. Two things made me give up on the purchase (I had the money in my pocket ready for the purchase): nice guitar but €1500 is really a lot (here in Italy it's an average monthly salary); it's a Kirk signature ok.... but are we sure? There's no name anywhere, just a figure behind it that could represent anyone. If I buy his signature at least put the name on the truss rod cover. it's a purple Flying V 1979 as far as I'm concerned. Then knowing me maybe I'll go out and buy it on Monday but for now it's a no. If it had cost 800 at most 900 it would be with me at home now.

      Yeah that Mustaine Prophecy had a significant price cut, I think that's a combination of it not being a guitar he actually plays and Mustaine not having a big enough name (oh and nobody has enough money during the Epiphone price increase). The black model also had reductions.
      I reckon these Hammett models will sell better though. The unique purple colour in particular. Kirk's a bigger name. But they may face a price cut eventually, who knows. not for the money. For this cash you can easily get Edwards/some used EII. Idiotically expensive for epiphone

    Must admit I am not really a fan of Flying V's. I wouldn't stop anyone from buying them but I don't think they're worth the money personally. All opinions respected ofc

      Disagree ! My experiences with a Gibson V antique natural are very positive. They have excellent playability, easy access to all frets, excellent tuning stability, light-weight but still with solid, deep tonal qualities, great sustain and acoustic properties (whole guitar vibrates)....and looks and sounds like a true rock and blues machine.

    Epiphone in the headstock. Quality not at the level of LTD. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Yeah I'm not paying that price for an Epiphone, which is a shame because I'd love to own one. But there's not a fucking chance I'd pay that cash for a Chinese guitar.

    I don’t think I’ll ever buy a Chinese guitar.

      I'd buy an Eastwood, played one of their acoustics and it's the best guitar I've ever played

      Not at all to much you people want premium guitars at a budget price not going to happen epiphone is more premium than budget that's the way it should have always been in the first place..
