Should we do more restaurant reviews? Let me know down below.
By all means...Chinese would be great...
Yes
Curious... could you do a Q&A video pls... what's your citizenship status? Work? Do you periodically go back to US? Healthcare insurance? TIA
Yes!! I need more quality places to add to my itinerary 😋
Yes
Congrats for 15k subscribers! Great video!👍❤️😃
Excellent video nice to see a high-end experience for a change!
Nothing beats taking your family out for an amazing dinner 👏
Couldn't agree more!
Thank you so much for sharing this content and your Easter meal with us. You definitely made me hungry and wishing I was there to enjoy that great food! God Bless and keep it coming.
Glad you enjoyed the video Randy. God bless you and your family!
Great review! thanks!
I LOVED the dramatic music while you were chewing your first bite of steak!
LOL
Nice one champ…you can tell by the big inhale that the steaks 🥩 GOLD…thanks bud!
It was so dang good. Thanks for watching Daz
That was a good video. Your personality and great way of communicating is AWESOME. I think you will be very successful in your life. God Bless and take care. Looking forward to your next video.
That made my day Kiana. God bless.
Wow, thank you so much Evan for this recommendation. I always struggle abroad to find good restaurants. I will keep this in mind when I am in Manila.
As usual so informative and enjoyable . I wish that steakhouse was in Cebu. Keep up the great work. I have been recommending you to my friends.
Thanks a ton James. Have you gotten to try any steakhouses out there?
Acacia steakhouse is not bad
Excellent video Evan. One of your best. Considering it was 5 people and the bill included drinks and appetizers, it's not bad at all. Looks like you and your family had a great time.
We certainly did. Thanks for watching.
Absolutely love the way you celebrate the great feast of Easter with a meal at Wolfgang’s! Will definitely visit.
Very good. Much appreciated. I believe for everything you ordered was good and priced right for the top quality. Yes. I would like to see an occasional restaurant review please.
Bro! Thank you so much for the content you put out. I know, for a fact, that I'll be moving to the Philippines. I've just been trying to decide where. You sharing your experiences, living in BGC, definitely has me wanting to move to BGC. I plan on coming to the Philippines in October. I will make it a 6 week visit. I'll spend 2 weeks in Manila, 2 weeks in Cebu City, and 2 weeks in Davao. I can't wait to move there!
Stellar plan you got going on there! Great way to hit up the three main spots. Glad the videos peaked your interest in BGC. It's definitely a must visit city in Manila.
Good plan! For my “exploratory “ visit, in January, I’m only doing a week in Manila, a week in Cebu, a week in Iloilo, and a final week just relaxing at a resort in Siquijor with possibly a day or two in Duemaguete. Hope your trip goes well!
@@flyingpigfarm1 I should spend a few days in Iloilo as well! Thank you for mentioning it.
Yes more resto... And maybe night markets
Thanks Savvy. Many people like the inexpensive costs of Philippine living videos. However, some of us appreciate the higher end of the market. Thanks for bringing quality content.
Absolutely! Glad you enjoy these kind of vids.
It's great he always shows how to live a good life. All the other vloggers show how to live on rice and a slice of lechon. I travel to the Philippines three four times a year and I never get a chance to go to these kinds of places because I don't have the time and locals won't set foot in these places so I'm glad he shares them. Next time I know where to go.
@@hankking4878 amen 🙏
Such a great video. I have not had a great steak for 5 months. I think I will splurge and go there.
Gots to go Greg!
Hey there! Great episode. Prices are pretty close (if not identical) to steak restaurants here in the states. We’ve been to Chris Ruth’s, but not Wolfgang. I imagine it’s just as good?
Great review, I love crab cakes as appetizer. Is asparagus available on the menu, love that with steak. Please do more restaurant reviews.
Not sure if I saw asparagus. I didn't even bat an eye at veggies lol! Will do more reviews.
What is the SC service charge line? Do you tip on top of that and if so, what's the customary percentage?
We personally tipped extra for the exceptional service by our waiter.
I would just cook it myself at home
We cook steaks at home sometimes too
As a foodie I was really looking forward to this video and it did not disappoint. For six diners at a fine establishment, the price was fair, and the food looked amazing! That porterhouse sizzling in butter........ oh my. I am also a big fan of tiramisu, and the ladyfingers did look a little dry, but it was pretty. Stay safe!
You and me both Rick. Maybe I'll do a few more of these videos and write it off as a "business expense" lol
@@TheSavvyExpat I like the way you are thinking, Evan.
I just happened to visit CZcams and Evan made me hungry 😋. I saw Wolfgang Puck when ran a search of seafood restaurants at BGC. I only eat steak once in a blue moon and prefer it medium well. But those steaks are mouth-watering and juicy like they're supposed to. Your Easter dinner was indeed somewhat expensive, yet not expensive enough for a family of 5 dining in an expensive part of the US. After all, you're in PH and why you moved there. You mentioned in the beginning about an expat that will be able to identify a good steak for confirmation. I can go by your advice since you love eating steak with great appreciation. Good choices of desserts. I love terramasou with good coffee. I"m certain it's bottomless. Keep eating good for motivation. Happy Belated Easter! Stay safe and thanks for all. We'll see you soon. 😊
Glad you enjoyed the video Eleanor. And you're right, though it was expensive, it doesn't compare to the steak dinners back home in Chicago. Now for that, you'd need a bottomless wallet 😂
Hi Evan, although expensive yet it was not just about the best steak dinner, but Easter dinner that has meaning to you and your family. Otherwise, a bottomless wallet sounds good 😅 and for sure live like a king (like you frequently hear from other expats 🤣).
By the way, did you give tips or is it customary to do so in PH?
How nice, I think I would suffer from a calorie coma after eating there, looks delicious!
I suffered a food coma afterwards lol
That looks so good. I feel the same about lobster. They didn't give you any sherbert to cleanse your pallette?
No they didn't unfortunately
I have had to learn to age steak at home in The Philippines. I have had one really great steak in Delmonte in the southern islands. I have had a few passable steaks in Manila. Steaks in Cebu and Baugio City seem to be tough.
I would like to try your two Steak House Suggestions.
I know that you enjoyed the steaks in the video.
Thanks for sharing another awesome video.
That's pretty impressive James... how do you go about aging steaks at home? I thought you need a special room for that.
@@TheSavvyExpat Yah, it's called a refreidgertator. It may not be as "special room" like a meat locker but it can do the job if you know what you're doing.
Try Wagyu beef its delicious also expensive. The have them in Manila. Beef is imported from Japan.
@@TheSavvyExpat
I put the steaks in a marinate and in a sealed container. I used olive oil and a papaya extract. I kept the steaks in the back of the frig for two to three weeks. Aging improved the steaks a great deal. A vacuum sealer also works well for this purpose. I cut the flap on the plastic sealing bag extra long so the vacuum package can be open and resealed several times.
This method greatly improves the flavor and texture of local Philippine cow and even carabao beef.
Stay well and be safe.
@@TheSavvyExpat Check this video out. Probably the best way in my opinion czcams.com/video/tGaVzrCIDB4/video.html
Love wolfgang! I would also recommend Mamou or house of wagyu as well. They did open up a chris ruths here also.
My friend says Mamou is good. I plan on checking out the Ruth's Chris here next!
We have the same loves. Great for special occasions.
CZcams is full of “expats” looking to stretch their social security checks. There are thousands of these types of videos on CZcams. It’s so refreshing to finally see something I can relate to - people enjoying the luxuries of the Philippines. Thank you and please consider making this your “niche”. No more “Living in the Philippines on a Shoestring” videos!
Love that. Will definitely set my sights on differentiating this channel just as you described.
Totally agree… too many bloggers living broke… acting like having money or investing wisely a bad thing
@@anteperic2836 I noticed the same thing. When I mention how much my rent is in BGC, these broke expats say “why would you pay that much to live in the Philippines?” or “why go to the Philippines to live in a westernized modern city?” It’s as if they can’t understand why someone with money would ever live in the Philippines.
@@MakatiMazz agreed! Like why would we want to live in a tropical paradise where our money goes even further and we have some hot Asian women treating us properly and desiring us… heaven forbid right?! Lol… I’m not gunna apologize for being successful much less becoming that way before 45 either… now I’m gunna have me some fun!
@@anteperic2836 It’s plain and simply jealousy and envy rearing it’s ugly head.
This is your best video yet 😊 Do you have any opinions on buffets?
Thanks! I've heard a lot of good things about the Okada Buffet and Spiral buffet in Manila
Just booked a weekend trip including airfare to Boracay from Manila for the price of that porterhouse 😁However , moments like that with your family is priceless. :) Great video!
Would you recommend going to Boracay by myself (As a FilAm that's still learning Tagalog) or go with local friends?
Great for you! Yeah, this was an amazing experience.
@@JIlu46 Yes I recommend it. English is widely spoken there. No worries about Tagalog. You'll feel at home there.
Once again you were eating! My favorite kind of video; watching you eat. LOL But on the other hand, to me that steak looks dry and just a bit raw. My rib eye steak here in Hawaii looks juicy compared to that one. But that's because I cooked it. And coffee, well I drink Lions coffee here. But I would definitely try it once if I get to go to BGC. But I would probably like Ruth's better. Anyway, great video. You definitely made me hungry while watching you.
Thanks for watching Norman! Honestly, looking back at the footage, my camera doesn't do it justice. It sure tasted great though.
Cool. A lot of steakhouses in the USA closed during pandemic including the Mortons chain from chicago. Glad that the steakhouses are still alive here in Philippines Mortons has always been my favorite because I love their asparagus and sipping King Louis.
Mortons was a great steak house but it closed ,, too bad ....
Really? I'm bummed to hear Mortons closed. It was one of our favorites.
Nice choice of cuts Evan, porter house used to be my fav. it’s not surprising with the price. When I used to eat meat our place to go was Harris Ranch in Coalinga. Second place is the house of prime rib SF. Your line of sight on the establishment’s menu was unbiased. You withheld your thoughts of over patronizing the place. I’ve seen videos where the review is always 100% which is unrealistic. If you are planning on another restaurant review do one with seafood, I.e. “boils” like in Louisiana in particular if it exists out there. I personally like cold smoking fish. Finally a video that is not sponsor related! Great job kid!
Yup, I know you all know good steaks so I can't fool anybody here lol. I'll look up some seafood places too. Thanks Johnny.
Salamat !
@@TheSavvyExpat it’s like anywhere else what makes the difference really is that American beef USDA. Texas has some of the best.
Wow very Nice Dining experience and you all got to try so many different steaks + Lamb. That is an Awesome Easter with family. Everything looked very nice indeed. Wolfgang's is definitely a Five Star ⭐ Steakhouse. I Like that the porterhouse comes out on that plate sizzling, definitely gets those taste buds running. Good Review. Thanks for sharing.
Oh mannn... When they brought out that sizzling steak I knew it was on!
In BGC, you could do a ton of videos like this just on food alone - so many interesting restaurants there, all within walking distance. I'll be staying about a block away from High Street for about a month. Bon Appetite!
I know right, the amount of food tours I can make here is tremendous. Hope you have a good time here in BGC. Maybe we'll bump into each other.
I'm going there. Great video.
It's a must Chris
Thumbs up! I would rather have buffet at Dusit Thani or Edsa Plaza Hotel.. Btw can you make a video/review about these hotels? Thanks much!
Looks like a classic good steakhouse. I will have to try soon. I'm curious if you have tried Wagyu Studio on 26th in BGC? I have heard good things.
Wolfgang's isn't in the same league as Wagyu Studio.
@@daveviate305 As in, Wagyu Studio is much better?
@@christian9387 Yes, Wagyu Studio is much better. It's also more expensive. They serve a gourmet 10-course tasting menu that features A5 Kobe beef.
Yes service is important but comparing Ruths to Wolfgangs for steaks and sides, I would walk by Wolfgangs without a second glance to get to Ruths,.. if it was in the USA... lets put it that way... what I need to know, what is the best steak house in Cebu? I am there in a few days for a few weeks and I will need a good steak at least once.
According to a video I watched they recommended Marble + Grain steakhouse in cebu as the best
@@philgee1749 Thanks Phil... I also saw one on "Fat Jims" I think, said they had Japanese Kobe.
Great... Now I'm hungry.
You should've seen me while I was editing this video... was starved 😂
I think I saw you at Wild Flour BGC this morning 🙃
OMG over $500.00 for a meal for the family? Thank God my asawa and I love Filipino food.
And thank God we don't eat like this everyday lol!
Texas Joe's in the SBMA Subic is a pretty good replica of an American roadhouse, with some fine steaks and reasonable prices.
I just got back from Las Vegas and the steakhouse in Caesars mall was about the same prices as you have there in the Philippines. I'm astonished they charge that much in the Philippines but you only live once enjoy!!! 😄
Nobody has done a video on rental apartments or condos in BGC since the lockdown was lifted.
I know prices have surely went up but from all the vloggers in the philippines, every video on BGC condo rentals are 8 months and older. I really hope you see this video because it is definitely needed right now with all the new people flocking into the philippines.
An updated BGC condo rental would be great. Thank you for quality videos
checkout Mergim Vlogs, he does some bgc condo tours
HMMMM- import some wagyu cows and start a high end beef operation. that was done in. Hawaii in the 80s - now a huge success
The thing is, there's a lot deeper pockets in Hawaii than in the PH, no? Not sure how many people at this point can afford it to even break even on such a high expense business 🤔
ya he's back.
OMGGG!!! I was shocked on the total price!😱😱
There is also Wolfgang's in Resort World of Manila / Newport City, just by NAIA. They have pics of famous people who have dined there. Expensive pero sobrang masarap.
Nice Evan you're living the good life bro 👍🆒😎
Wow, I'm surprised on the prices. I thought I already ate one of the priciest steaks in one of the casino steak houses here in Vegas but i was wrong. But if you want quality food & svc, be prepared to pay the price. Good review!
Thanks Reynaldo
man, havent been to a steak house in a very very long time...since i learned to cook steak
You must try out the Spiral Buffet at the 5 * Sofitel Hotel.
I would be interested to see a review from you of the Spiral Buffet @ the 5* Sofitel Hotel, manila.
Agree!
I gotta check that place out. Hear a lot of good things
I had kobe beef sashimi in Cebu. Im probably the biggest meat eater around so I had lots of meat eating experience from around the world on my travels and I had to say that kobe beef I ate in Cebu was by far the best meat I have ever had hands down! lol
Try Elbert’s Steak Room in Makati. But honestly, for me the best steak is not found in Manila but in Antonio’s in Tagaytay
Heard a lot of good things about Antonio's. Never knew they had good steaks there though
Wolfgang puck is over rated everywhere haha Ruth Chris steak house Is the better option least the one in California Burbank/ / Santa Monica .IMO haha but Balismos in Hensonille has some killer aged steaks and alot cheaper too around 1500 pesos for a 12oz steak anykind haha need to try them out if ever around Angles city area. but food did look great aswell.
Agree! Wolfgang is overrated. Prefer Ruth’s Chris, but my favorite for filet mignon and ribeye is Mastro’s Steakhouse here in Newport Beach, California.
This is Wolfgang Zweiner, not puck. I know I was mislead too lol. But you bet I'm gonna head over to Ruth's Chris. Gotta compare these places.
Coming from Chicago, this kid's an expert on steak.
steaks is one of my favourite foods but i have been wondering for a while if you can get really high quality cuts in the philipines.
Even just to cook them for yourself.
Bruv, the background sound is too loud. You might want to consider getting a lavalier mic or something. Great content nonetheless
Delicious meal, but when it’s coming to the price you can have same orders in Montana steakhouse for less than that price here in North America
Try Ruby Jack in City of Dreams
Keep up the content ... I'm a new subscriber ... I always enjoy watching Philippine content on CZcams... So your family moved out there ... I'm impressed wish I had the guts to do the same ...
Do it Enrico. Come here to BGC and you won't be disappointed.
I have a duplex in Marikina and 5 condos in Makati Ortigas n Taguig ... I have my passive income ... Albeit 2 studios, 1 BR, a 2 BR, n 3 BR... But all paid for ... My kids love America ages 20, 17, 14
@@IslandDream24 I see. Seems that the main thing keeping you from packing the bags is the kids?
Looks delicious
I totally understand that most people would never spend so much money on steak. I do however have to say that it is by far the best steak i have ever had. I have been chasing the quality/flavor for the past 4 years. I haven't been back, as i no longer live near a Wolfgangs, but i do plan on going to Peter Lugers soon.
Totally agree Tim. The experience you get a steakhouse is definitely worth the price.
How much did you tip him? $33? How the tipping there?
They already have a service charge, so extra tip is optional. we decided to tip extra.
I ate there twice last week with family. Best steaks I have tasted in a long time
You should have given a heads up for a towel because I'm drooling all over the place
That’s not bad pricing for a Prime Steakhouse. It’s about the same as here in the U.S. Except you’d be expected to leave a 15-20% tip in the U.S.
Exactly
Amazing steaks are available in Tagaytay City, Philippines were the climate is cooler then Manila would be Fire Lake Grill and Antonio’s Fine Dining.
I' M HUNGRYYYYYYYY! Great video, thanks
What type of crab did they use in the crab cakes? Those looked good but I'm from Maryland and I haven't found any crab cakes, blue crab, that measure up to those that we have in Maryland as they're famous for their crab cakes. For the lobster was it Maine lobster? To me Maine lobsters are the best. I'm sorry but as much as I love steak there's no way that I'm going to pay that much for those steaks and the other foods that you ordered but that's just me as everyone is free to eat where they want.
I think the crabs were blue crabs. Not sure on the lobster, but I wasn't a huge fan. Thanks for watching Steven!
@@TheSavvyExpat You are very welcome and I always enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing everything with us.
Steven your right Maryland crab cakes are fantastic but the best crab cake i ever had was made with Alaskan King Crab it was out of this world good
@@tomm.6265 I would love to try one with Alaskan King Crab.
Wolf gang steak or taging bull steak??
Raging Bull.. I promise!
Yes
The meal looked good but the steak prices were silly. I agree I would pay for my family at Easter but you can get the same meal for less in NYC at a great restaurant.
You mentioned a tip, I had heard tipping wasn't expected in PI. Are high end restaurants exceptions? Do most people there tip?
Philippines is cheap as it is... so being gracious and tipping shouldn't be an issue.
@@xo7454 Its not really about the money, its about understanding what is proper. I have heard other bloggers state that tipping is not generally done in PI. Of course, I suspect the restaurants they are going to are not as high end as the one you went to. Would you typically tip at something like a Texas Roadhouse? If so, for decent service, what percent?
@@JustABill02 I tipped like I would tip in Canada. It's not customary to tip because the local consumers there are poor, every peso counts. But it's not uncommon to buy, for example, at the wet market, and just ask them to keep the change. We did that even when we still lived there.
@@JustABill02 being generous and grateful to the service people is proper. And for a poor country, that is in the form of tipping. My parents always tipped even in the 80's. But they never based it on a customary %. In restaurants, they just didn't take the change or they left an additional random amount.
@@xo7454 if service is bad you don't top simple if its good you do.
...happy Easter..God bless...
Same to you Mike
Like u said u don’t do this every week so why not enjoy the taste of some great food 🇨🇦👍
Absolutely Thomas
youre living a good life man........... :)
LOL - you realize you are from the upper class here not just there right? I love your channel. I've been a professional all my career and I've been at Peter Luger's ONCE, at the expense of one of my friends who owned a well know analysis firm. I would never have gone just to go, but you, who lived in Chicago not NY knew to include it. I am impressed, but it reinforces my recognition that you have already been a success and will be more than one.
Evan no twice baked bake potato OMG so much better than mash potato and its in almost in every steakhouse here in the U.S. I guess Wolfgang forgot that one maybe they have it at Ruth Chris great video
Pandisal and Star margarine....exquisite!!!!
lol
You remind me of my son, he enjoy the food from expensive places, he also look a little like you but is half Philippine and Half italian
Your son has good taste!
we have a place in the Parkway tower 2, a cross from the Mall facing the new Japanese mall but we live in LA, you are doing a good job with your videos
Yummy!
It sure was!
I would like to see a review of pizza options in the Philippines. With you being from Chicago you know what I mean when I say pizza. I prefer thin crust. If I move to the Philippines, I'm not sure if I could handle giving up a good pizza at least once per month.
On a side note:
When I was a kid my parents took me to a local place called Shakeys pizza. It wasn't Chicago style but the memories are good of those days. I saw Shakeys is a franchise in the Philippines and I was wondering if it is similar to my childhood memories.
S&R pizza is the best in my opinion and my favorite Italian dine-in restaurant in general is Aveneto in Mall of Asia. There's also plenty of branches of Papa John's, Domino's, Shakey's and Pizza Hut if you live in the bigger cities and quality varies depending on what you like. There's even giant 36 inches pizza like Big Guy's if you are hosting for a bunch of people and if they're not very picky on quality. You might also see an odd pizza place or two sometimes that's got brick oven to cook it with and those are not too bad at all. And then you have the $2 local pizza that true pizza lovers would only touch in apocalypse survival situations lol
yes, Shakeys is good too
almost forgot Evan u should see what that meal would have cost u here at Wolfgangs in Vegas on the Strip u actually got off cheap LOL....
True!!
Oh mannn! I miss vegas...
I like hearing about these eateries. Peter Lugers in Brooklyn is the best..
You should try raging bull chopshouse
My parents like that place
Check out Elbert's Steak Room. They have USDA Prime Grade and Super Prime Grade, also expensive but I think better than Wolfgang's.
$600 is a good price actually for 5 people. Usually when you go bigger with the food it takes us $900 including seafood tower.
Im a fan of Ribeyes, I already know how good it was when I saw your face 😂
Yum!
The price is similar to steakhouses in Los Angeles. I like steak also but medium well. LOL. BGC is a beautiful area.
Los Angeles is pricey too. I hear Lawry's prime rib is the bomb. I want to try it someday.
@@TheSavvyExpat The Lawry's is in Beverly Hills. I was there about 15 years ago. It's maybe about 1 hour drive from my house. Because of the LA traffic, I try not to drive too far.
You can only expect that from a Wolfgang restaurant of course!
Hw about italiannis at BGC bro
Can you do a comparison on fast foods in The Philippines vs in the US because I remember the McDonald’s in the Philippines is different because of the “shake fries” I don’t know if they still have it in the Philippines but would be nice to know.🇵🇭🚶🏻
McDonalds Philippines also has rice, chicken, "steak" bowls, and spaghetti. As well as Burger McDo which has a different a patty (tastes more of fillers) and the Filipino breakfast menu. Certainly different and far from the limited menu in most McDonald's branches in the US.
And yes, they still have the Shake Shake Fries.
28days dry aging only in our own dry aging room with controlled temperature to achieve the tenderness and the nutty flavor of our steak😋😋😋
Making my mouth water!
The food looks great but I don't think that steak is Prime! Not enough marbling unless the grading is different in the PH.
Maybe it isn't. That's why I want to head over to Ruth's Chris here.
I noticed the T Bone steak served is precut.
O.K. but is there any Chilies, Outback Steakhouse, Texas Roadhouse, or Cracker Barrel, etc.? I like the "Awesome Blossom/Bloomin Onion", Texas toast, Steak fries, etc. 😁😁
There's Texas Roadhouse, Outback Steakhouse and Chilli's. Not sure about the others.
No cracker barrel here but there is chillies, outback, and texas roadhouse. i'll do a review. I gotta have my bloomin onion.
@@TheSavvyExpat love that dipping sauce
The food looked really good but very pricey. That is more then my total food costs for a month in Canadian dollars. So for me would have to something very special to spend that much at a restaurant. Hope you and your family enjoyed your meal
We enjoyed it a lot Brian. Then again, there's 5 of us
You are lucky my friend.
