    It’s interesting to see how fashions come back around with the more recent use of large novelty earrings like rubber ducks and baubles. Feels like a the same idea with a modern twist.

      The 1950s was great for costume jewelry where the inspiration was elite rich film stars, with men reentering workforces there was a mix of wealthy women and men after ww2 both of whom would like to dress up or appear fancy for daytime events/house events. (From war rationing to post war economic miracles there’s a little bit of glam eccentricity.)
      The current fashion of having large bobbly earrings/random items comes from a mix of punk history (1980-90s where recycling old items was a necessity to being punk leather was a second hand store item from the 1960s biker gangs, anything thrifted from prior eras could be turned into smt punk) and 90s-2010s economic crash and the rise of diy/Etsy. (Mostly women could earn a second income through hand making earrings/accessories and have a system of female buyers and sellers so chunky handmade jewlery for soccer moms or to a teenagers slap-bracelet/braided bracelets could be sold/purchased)
      Currently in 2020 chunky handmade diy earrings are a symbol of independent privatized ownership of goods not through a corporation, it’s a handmade item from someone who’s also probably middle class or lower as most for sell earrings are Dollar-Tree items fitted to earring parts. It’s also heavily used by punk and lgbt groups due to the lack of corporation, supporting independent artists/craftsmen, and being able to signal in public discretely.
      Some earrings are like staple lesbian earrings and it’s too difficult to explain what makes a pair semi-targeting that market and just a normal set but the earrings are about as much of a clue in as a colored handkerchief.

    Too, too darling! I really want those “Cuckoo Clock Earrings”! With today’s technology they could probably remake them so that a little cuckoo “Cuckoo Bird” pops out on the hour! I would definitely buy them if they did that. Look at all the clip on earrings, those were the days when a woman used to remove her earring before putting the phone up to their ear. Oh my goodness, imagine if today’s youth had to do that? 😳🙄😂🤣😂

    • @sangeliastorck
      @sangeliastorck Před 10 lety +3

      CaramelDermis Actually they are just as thin. Since they know that the camera adds 'weight' to the image. Take a look at the before and after in the following links and then try to tell me that they use 'average' sized models. As in they are very similar to how men & women really look. Many of the models have a BMI of 14-16. Many of the models are battling eating disorders.

      @CaramelDermis Před 10 lety +4

      sangeliastorck The examples used in those links are of high fashion models (except for Cameron Diaz, who is toned and not anorexic looking). As for the average fashion model being 23% thinner than the average woman, that may be because the average woman in the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia is overweight. I've yet to see a man or woman in ANY television commercial, print ad, in-store advertisement, or pornographic material who looked anorexic (there are a few ectomorphs here and there, but no one displaying anorexic traits).
      High fashion models don't look like the average woman because they're not targeted towards the average woman; they're targeted toward those who buy clothes for high class status above all. Speaking of which, I'm surprised it hasn't occurred to anyone that the trend of increasingly thin high fashion models may be caused precisely by the ever-rising rate of overweight and obese people in the Western world. Being overweight was once a way of displaying status by differentiating oneself from the poor, and now that saturated/fattening foods are most commonly consumed by the poor because of their cheapness/abundance, we see the reverse trend happening.
