I thought I was having flashbacks, but hearing Ms. Banfield, seeing her emotions I realize how much Sandy Hook affected me. It's not free and there are some things that aren't even covered even though we do 'pay for it'. My province (Ontario) has health insurance coverage that doesn't include long term cancer treatments, doesn't cover long term illnesses like Kidney disease or the treatment of autoimmune diseases such as Lupus, etc. Some operations aren't free. So, when you have victims of school shootings come in where they sometimes need long term aid such as multiple operations to remove bullets and repair damage done by said trauma- only a few of those surgeries are going to be covered before OHIP runs out.

I've been watching these horrible shootings since Columbine. This time the media seemed more angry, more emotional. I remember Columbine. I was a very young child at the time and the tragedy came weeks after my country celebrated Nunavut's confederation to Canada. However, things definitely changed in schools even in my country. I don't remember any of the changes but I remember that teachers were definitely very scared. It wasn't until Sandy Hook when the schools in my area were freaked out enough to implement some sort of emergency protocol. This included locking school doors throughout the school day, having an intercom or whatever to sign in for parents and visitors, and other things that would hopefully stop an active shooter from gaining access to the school itself.
Sad that after Columbine the US still hasn't learned their lesson and made changes.

Right! I can’t think of one single crime that ever just sort of “went away” because nobody wanted to do it anymore. This is going to become a weekly occurrence. We can’t seem to agree on preventing guns versus preventing mental illness blah blah blah. Meanwhile - everyone ignores the logical solution in my opinion - metal detectors bullet proof glass high opaque fences have been around in prisons and courtyards forever. But we’d rather have this image of a sunny playground with open fences and parents walking up randomly to hug their kids and all that stuff rather than keep our kids physically safe

Today when I heard the news abt this school shooting in Texas, I asked the same exact thing... what have we learned since SH?? Clearly not a damn thing...nothing. We are doing nothing to protect our babies!! 💔💔💔💔😭😭😭😭 I can not believe this!! And although we all come together and pray and hold prayer vigils, its not the answer!! These gun laws need to change!! Our babies are not safe. A grocery store, a church and now this!! 😡😡😡😡

We love you. Finally. Thank you for articulating exactly what we're all feeling here just in our home in utter brokeness. There's this movie called Grand Canyon from '92 where somebody throws a baby away in a dumpster, our middle aged protagonist finds and keeps her and tells her husband the epidemic that's taking hold in this country,
'We are coming apart. Something is wrong. Deeply, irreconcilably wrong. We are now throwing babies away in a 7-11 dumpster.... and we are getting USED to it.'
We in my little circle have not become desensitized to this madness, but we watch as the world around us has started to. If we don't stop with political imaginary problems that mean nothing and start solving this stat, we won't be a super power much longer.
What is it Eminem said, 'The Untied States of Embarrassment.' That was in 2001. Twenty plus years later, we are baring witness to the autumn of civilization before it's all powder, ash and nuclear dust.

I've been thinking about it too. My first thought is to keep schools locked...no one in unless they have authorization of some kind. But then, you would also have to inspect the kids to make sure they aren't bringing in any weapons. Maybe if you do all of that, combined with some volunteer watch dog groups, you could have a few less school shootings. I also think each and every community that has schools will have to come up with plans that work for them. The government won't/can't solve this issue, so it will have to be up to the local communities. It would cost the schools money, which they already struggle with. It is a very tough issue to solve, but we have to come up with something....FAST!! This just cannot continue :(

The lady on the right is less inclined to accept this because she is Canadian rather than American.

VOTE THEM OUT! VOTE THEM OUT! NOW!

  • @graceandcompassionchurch1638

Is the country going to continue to vote the same people into political office who are unwilling to pass sensible gun legislation? If we as a country are fed up with the people that are not going to anything different vote them out of office. Vote in people who are willing to represent the views of the people!

"Vote in people who are willing to represent the views of the people!"
That would mean LESS gun laws. Gun owners are a bigger group than dems or reps COMBINED, over 100 million Americans. Gun control supporters are quite the minority.

This has to stop and this has to stop now. We the people need to all come together and stop this. The hell with the politics. It's pretty obvious to me that they haven't done anything . It's just the way I feel. THIS NEEDS TO STOP AND STOP NOW. PRAY FOR THESE FAMILIES. GOD HELP US.

I’m from a small town about 50 miles away from Uvalde (pronounced You-Val-dee) and I’m sick. What’s worse is it’s 4 mos later and my governor met with the NRA BEFORE he met with the families. Make that make sense! I’m so glad to see and hear this emotion bc this is HOW WE ALL FEEL! Abbot hasn’t answered the tough questions and he has even made sure NONE OF THOSE PARENTS are in the audience of a debate bc he might have to face them! How is that ok??? And now that we know how the police dropped the ball, I am disgusted! And I am saying this as a very proud Law Enforcement Officer’s wife. When do we do better? When???? Instead our elected officials are moving immigrants around as a game to punish democrats and their ignorance of the actual border. But I don’t care about that as much as this and so should they! Why the hell do we see thousands upon thousands of dollars going to political theatre when we have already started school and kids are sitting there for the slaughter?????? But good things all u people can get and carry whatever freaking weapon they want? I do contract work at schools here in texas and now a cop is on campus walking through the hallways. So we are retroactive but NOT PROACTIVE! Pull ur heads out of whatever hole it is in and DEMAND our governor and ALL OUR LEADERS, regardless of political party, and DO SOMETHING!

I thought America had sense, how is it okay to buy riffles at 18. I don’t care about your stupid rights. You don’t need such automatic riffles. This is highly preventable. Gun purchase should be tracked and regulated. As well as ammunition’s. No one needs rounds and rounds of such ammunition’s.
