Actual tutorial/steps for doing this yourself
0) Pre-wash clothing (it will help bleach/dyes to stick/penetrate into fabric more... some clothing has protective layer on it when shipped)
1) Get shirts wet if you want a smoother fade to colors and bleach (keep dry if you want crisper edges)
2) Wring excess water from clothing (if you wetted it)
3) Take your time to really neatly spiral/pleat your shirts
4) Bleach (make sure bleach is FRESH, it greatly diminishes after even 6 months)
- You can use about 50% bleach, 50% water
- Don’t let sit for too long or it will damage the shirt (maybe 5-15 minutes)
- Don’t forget both sides of your shirt if you want to dye both
5) Make a gallon of hydrogen peroxide water (1 cup hydrogen peroxide per gallon of water)
- It will neutralize the bleach
- Don’t untie your shirt if you plan to dye it after bleaching
- Let it sit for 20 minutes, then wring out as much water as you can
6) Make soda ash water (this helps the dyes stick by increasing the Ph levels)
- Using hot water will help it dissolve
- Let sit for 20-120 minutes, then wring out as much as you can
7) Dye
- Apply till it drips out the back
- Flip it over and apply dye to the other side
8) Wait 8-24 hours
9) Run the shirt under cold water
10) Wash cold and then air dry

Hearing Katelyn talk about her middle school tie dye had me laughing. Also howdey I had the tomato soup rice crispys and I made some grilled cheese along with it and it tasted decent
My thoughts on joob. Because Katelyn has a smaller torso I think having joob covered allows you to enjoy more of the galexy. If she was blank the bleached sections wouldn't be as visible. Since Evan has a larger torso you can still see the galexy well even with joob fully black.
In review: the different designs complement their different sizes.

@@EvanAndKatelyn2 You’re welcome!! I did bleach dyeing a couple years ago, and it can be really finicky, especially when dark clothes don’t lighten to the color you expected them to. 😂

If you wanna prevent the blech to blead trough to the back when doing a flat shirt, you can put a pice of cardboard inside the shirt:D they turned out so beautiful
Or plastic. Cardboard is likely to get soggy and floppy.
Plastic bag taped shut over a piece of cardboard on the inside of the shirt works best. Their biggest problem though was more that they didn't properly clean up the bleach left behind between bleaching each shirt so they had trouble with spots on the back starting to go almost white which is bad. 😅
I was a bit skeptical at the beginning, but you guys completely blew it out of the park with this one. I literally can't stop smiling at how good those designs are.

From a camp dyer, if you want to redo joob (though it is perfect as is) or do different colors, slip a piece of cardboard inside the shirt to protect the masked off area from any bleach that might seep in through the back. This also sometimes makes it easier to flip the shirt without any wrinkles.
Or if you're Evan, 3D print a T-shirt shaped template to slide inside the shirt 😁

Once you start, it’s hard to stop.😅 so proud of y’all for not having done it in a long time though, these are great!The cloud hoodie is my favorite, you could definitely get some darker blue and add it back into the clouds if you wanted more on the front.☺️
My favorite tie dye I ever made was a “got milk?” shirt from my youth with a gorgeous rainbow spiral. Got loads of compliments on it in high school 😂
Color me shocked that Even actually showed restraint. The 1/2 bleached and galaxy came out so well. I'm glad he channeldd his inner Katelyn. ;)

Hey if you guys want to do this again and want patterns in the front but not for it to spread to the back, just put a spare piece of cardboard between the layers that should protect it. 🙂 It looks like you guys had a lot of fun with this project!

At the beginning I was expecting the same as every other tie dye but these ones were so unique, creative and awesome looking that I was extremely impressed! Loved all of them! Would wear all of them!

Really cool looking shirts - something anyone can do with no fancy/expensive supplies. This would be a great fix for t-shirts that have stains or bleach spots on them. Good shirts but not something you'd wear in public - until you fix them with these techniques.

I got back into tie dye a couple years ago, so now my hubby and I tie dye every year. Don't really need that many shirts, but it's just so fun!
You can stick a sheet of plastic or cardboard inside the shirt to stop the dye/bleach from soaking through to the back! I hope to see a pt. 2 (and maybe 3 and 4...), this was incredible!

Evan is actually onto something... find/build a small closet sized room and hang up a whole tone of clothes, wear full body protection, go crazy with a bottle of bleach, then go crazy with dyes after stabilizing the bleach.

The matching nails are goals
I think you need to try some designs that have real tight wrapping on it. The rubber bands bind loosely and I wanna see the difference between tight binding and this version.
The shirt that was sprayed while dry has some REALLY crisp spray patterns! If you wanna do galaxies I think that makes a TON of difference.
You could go over the letters on the words are hard shirt with small brush and white latex or acrylic wall paint. They might eventually wear off, but they will last years. Yes in a hard cycle washing machine!
The tees are cool, but the light blue sweatshirt is freaking sick

Did bleach die during the pandemic! It was so fun! I still do it every once in a while. Always wanted to bleach die a black shirt, then try to tie die it. And yes, it became my favorite fashion to wear lol
This was sooo fun to watch, and what a payoff! You could even water down some fabric paint and flick some stars over the Space Joob shirts, or use white fabric paint and go over the Words Are Hard - if you dab a sponge brush over it after you paint it on, it had more of a screen-printed look and less of the raised fabric paint look. They all look SO COOL as they are though!

I do tie dye every summer with a large group of friends. We all order a bunch of white clothes, show up at a specific friends house, and spend hours working out designs. It’s incredibly fun- I highly recommend.
“We’re gonna leave it in the soda ash for like an hour or two” oh my god your shirts are going to disintegrate holy shit. We soak ours for like. 5 minutes or so. It damages the clothes if you leave it in there for too long.
When bleaching or dying a flat shirt put a sheet of plastic inside to protect the other side (use safety pins to hold in place whilst flipping over).

I love tie-dye and I'd happily wear any/all of those! I love how they look like either galaxy, clouds, or a kind of stylised leopard/tiger print. I actually prefer the full spiral rainbow, and the hoodie looks a lot like a T-shirt I once made, except I started with a white shirt and tie-dyed the whole thing sky blue, I've never started with colored and used bleach. (Fun fact with white cotton shirts, usually the stitching is manmade fiber so when you rinse the dye out, you get a dyed shirt with white stitching, not sure if that depends on the type of dye you use.)
I really liked how the hoodie turned out! One thing you can do to prevent the bleed through you were getting on the galaxy shirts is to put an insert inside the shirt, like cardboard or something.
I really like the chaos one, it even looks fiery! The masked Joob, that also looks good though the spots where it soaked through are not great. If it were me, I might look for a way to apply spot black to those places to cover it up.

heck yeah! i have a nerve disorder and spill a lot on my clothes, so i tie-dye everything to hide it. the bleach+color look is SO GOOD and im absolutely going to implement some of your ideas next time i do a big dye

I've been on a bit of a tie dye kick for a while - as a plus size person a lot of places only make merch in fun colours in small sizes so there's been a few occasions I've bought the boring white larger sized shirt and dyed it to make it more fun - plus it's unique then!
