The fact that a MSM giant like msnbc would put a report together that lacks even basic information is ridiculous.
It's a foreign agent's law, the same as in Russia and Kyrgyzstan. Essentially, if an organization receives a certain amount of foreign funding, in this case, like 20-30%, they have to register as a foreign agent. This strips them of rights enjoyed by "domestic organizations". It's a law that very easily can be used to silence oppositional voices, as the government can further restrict domestic funding. It's a spiral effect to cut down on oppositional voices in a country.
I like how NBC didn't even try to give a summary on what is the bill. I guess googling it is.

It's a Kremlin style law that suppresses opposition, civil society and free media. Don't confuse it with US or Canada laws. In this part of the world this law means crackdown on dissent.

US law
Foreign Agents Registration Act provides the public with an opportunity to be informed of the identity of persons engaging in political activities on behalf of foreign governments, foreign political parties and other foreign principals, so that their activities can be evaluated in light of their associations
Powerful people from abroad clearly want the people of Georgia to not be aware of who/what is influencing their country and politics. Seems like they facilitated or sparked these protests
Мы слишком хорошо знаем, как этот закон будет использоваться в Грузии. Россия тому пример.
you aren`t seem like a russian kremlin bot. Please, don't support it because you don`t know how implement such laws it russia. This law has nothing in common with the American and Canadian ones. It will be used to shut down non-state media and put pressure on opponents of the regime. With the help of this law, almost all remaining independent media were closed and hundreds of journalists were forced to flee. You can be added to the list of foreign agents for a donation of $10 during the stream or for a transfer to donationalerts, boosty... After being included in the list, all advertisers will refuse you, because they can also be fined and closed for cooperation with a foreign agent. And of course, if you are a state propagandist and receive donations from abroad, then this law does not apply to you, it only applies to opponents of the regime.
@@simonolya. Spell out your accusations. You're only to the stage of propaganda so far.
There is such a huge difference between a country like the US and Canada and a country like Georgia.
Not only does the country of Georgia have scary neighbors like Russia, but it is actually less than half the size of the US state Georgia, with about as many people as the state of Utah. Just look at their history with the Soviet Union, they have every right to be scared.
The US and Canada are very geographically protected, have nice neighbors, a large amount of land and population, and a whole lot of world and military power.
Well, after looking it up, the bill would require any organization getting 20% or more of their funding from a foreign government to register as a foreign agent. Not seeing the issue? We need that in the US - particularly for PACs. Other reforms- like dual citizenship for members of congress - need a hard look too. How can someone who swears allegiance to a foreign government be allowed to serve in Congress?
US already has that law, basically every independent country has this law but Georgia is forbidden from it otherwise US agents will be fckd

As an American I hope Georgia keeps those CIA operatives in prison for a long time
The US has done exactly this same thing with FARA, with the banning of RT, and now with the banning of TikTok. Britain also banned all foreign-owned newspapers. This kind of thing is a regular occurrence with would-be information-monopolists around the globe. There's nothing special about Russia or Georgia here.
European Commission in Strasbourg on Tuesday, the planned law would require the bloc's 27 countries to ensure organisations and individuals lobbying on behalf of non-EU countries declare their activities and the funding they receive in a public register.
It has been criticised by non-governmental organisations who fear it could be used to silence critical voices in the bloc.

who would really be upset about ngo's having to declare their income if it comes from foreign sources? we have the same law here in the us...thats what they modeled it after.
the EU is saying this undemocratic and they want to join the EU
The law is not exactly the same. The Georgian law requires anyone who receives 20-30% of funding from a foreign entity to be labeled as a foreign agent, which strips rights from that organization. It is a massive hit to civil society in developing countries who face repression already and have difficulty with domestic funding.
IE: its an easy way for regimes to crack down on oppositional voices. Russia is a very clear example and the Georgian law is based on that law.
@@KommissarJeffreyovich The US also has a foreign agents law. It is called FARA. It keeps other countries influence out and reveals who is actually funding things in the country.

We Americans can relate. We've gotta deal with AIPAC.✌️🇺🇲
Independent Journalist and Horror CZcams Gamer. The 'Foreign Agents' bill would require organizations receiving more than 20% of their funding from organizations or countries abroad to register as "agents of foreign influence" or face fines by the country of Georgia's parliament. This is causing such an uproar because, similarly, policies in neighboring Russia mimic this one. The people of Georgia feel that this will be used to deter independent organizations from gaining funds from other countries, and this can affect Georgia's entering the European Union and drifting further into Kremlin influence.
It would be nice if you would indicate in the title that you were speaking about the country and not the state.
Can someone please advise if the USA and UK have similar " foreign agent" restrictions on global company ownership or influence?

@@MeleanDialogue Oh, we absolutely have influence everywhere. Maybe I'm confused by your question. You said 'restrictions on foreign companies'.
