  • Today, I am loading hay in Buckeye, Arizona to Pilot Point, Texas. I will be going over how to strap hay and how to correctly tarp a hay load. I will also be going over load securement and the reasoning behind it.

You are an artist with those tarps, well done. You take safety seriously, very important.

I haul big bales of straw and hay in Oregon, with 40-24's. Total I use one on the drom, four on the lead and three on the pup. During tarp season I run 48 bales instead of 54. Usually running between 80k and 105,500ish..... you shouldn't have to re tighten almost at all. It's strange you need to. I run with old dudes who used to haul no straps in the old days. But it's super nice seeing more people posting videos of hay and straw. It's a fun way.

Do you have any type of a/c or cooling in your truck cab? Good luck and be safe! Love your channel name, very clever. Also love your wife. God speed.

Thank you for the kind words. Yes I have AC/Heating just like a car, better in fact. I also have what’s called an APU (Auxiliary Power Unit), it’s basically a generator to run everything and saves fuel while parked. It doesn’t work as well as having the truck on though. I will go weeks without shutting my truck off when it’s summer time. Or in the winter if running in extreme cold.

Have you ram into issues with not being 💯 tarped? I had my first hay rejected down in Cali I had your setup but a 3 piece and the wet road caused about 1 ft to a foot and half of around the bottom of my stack to be wet.

Never had that happen. I always used 2 8’ft drop tarps. Yes about 1-2 feet is always uncovered. I’ve hauled a lot of hay (usually it’s the only thing out of AZ for a step deck) and never had any issues. 10’ drops are pretty rare and you would have to haul haul exclusively to even think about them. I’ve actually only ever seen them a few times. Can’t even imagine how heavy they would be

How long of straps do you use?
