00:00 Leather Jacket Outfits Introduction
Contrary to what some people assume, the leather jacket has a place in the classic menswear canon, but you have to pick the style and material that’s right for you. Because a quality leather jacket can be a substantial investment, we’re making this guide to help you make the right choice. We’ll provide insight on how to get the most out of your leather jacket by showing off some outfits that really anyone can pull off.
00:45 Leather Jacket History
Leather jackets might be associated with stylish bad boys, but their origins are actually classically utilitarian. In the late 19th and 20th centuries, leather jackets were essentially practical garments. Motorcycle jackets actually began as safety equipment as they would protect the rider from road rash in the event of crashes and provide insulation and warmth while riding.

I'm glad Kyle has now a comrade who rocks a modern classic style as well
Not me - I want more classic looks, not modern street wear. There are other channels for that.
@@dandiehm8414 I see both sides. On the one hand, the Gentleman's Gazette is a business that needs to make money, and the advice is solid for if you choose to dress that way. On the other, it's really the only mainstream CZcams channel that provides those classic style details. I do miss those older-style videos. With that said, they still do those sorts of videos, and upload pretty frequently, so it's not all bad.
@@dandiehm8414 while I respect your opinion, I think this realm of classic menswear is slightly more accessible for me at least. That's why I dig this type of content
@@oliverdelica2289 Say rather that this type of menswear is more accessible to you, and I have no problem. But there is nothing "classic" about most of the looks in this video. Modern streetwear is not why I come to this channel.
@@dandiehm8414 ok I respect that
The "Bane jacket" is actually a swedish model M1909 Field coat in leather.
Oh I love his jacket! Didn’t know what it was. Thought maybe a sort of shearling. Cool.

I have one in the green canvas. It's an awesome jacket. Highly recommend
That's interesting. My nephew works for Warner's prop dept and said Hardy's coat(s) were made for the film from within, as opposed to being provided by an outside coat maker (designer), but he is a prop maker, not a costumer. He said there were reasons other than branding that would be the reason, such as actors exact size, movements in particular scenes, some collars might be higher or sleeve length longer depending on camera angle, more fabric on back of arms for reaching, prop compartments, etc.
I asked if some designer might make the coats for the studio with the specifications needed, but he said he didn't know. He did say there were a lot of complexities the viewer doesn't realize for very important costume clothing and that there were about 14 coats made for various reasons. Not as complex as Batman's costumes, but similar attention to movement details. I guess without seeing the tag, it would be hard to say who made them.
Yes, I would love some driving goggles! I've been working on putting together a classic driving ensemble and would be ecstatic to see them in Fort B. !
If I remember correctly, Lock & Co. Hatters make some very fancy driving goggles called the: Aviator Goggles.
@@carltrotter7622 thanks I'll have to look into it!
bro i thought you were joking 😂
I’d die for a classic driving outfit and aviator goggles!
I personally built my leather jacket styles off of Indiana Jones. The A-2 and Indy style are my favorite styles for leather jackets. Indy's outfit is really straightforward and it's easy to swap colors. You can easily go from famed archeologist to preppy to street adventurer as far as outfits go.
I have a substantial collection of custom made jackets. Almost all of them are matched with my custom boots. Wearing a high end jacket that doesn’t match your footwear , is a fashion failure.
I love original flight jackets!
I inherited my father's ww2 G1, this is my go to leather jacket, style with jeans , OCBD, lambswool sweater and chukkas. Inside pockets are perfect for my conceal carry. A classic that will never go out of fashion and been to war, defending this country.
I could smell the leather thru cyberspace. Luv it.
I liked the second outfit best! Great video as always!
Love my black Schott biker jacket. Best jacket I own currently.
I was waiting for this episode for looooooong time! Thanks
Oh i really like this new guy. He looks like a soldier
Most days I wear a black leather racer jacket with dark denim jeans, a Fedora, either a t shirt or casual button down, and usually brown dress shoes but lately I've been wearing Vans. Leather jackets are what got me into classic menswear.
Are you in high school?
I have a single leather jacket, and I like to wear it like they were worn in the 1930s: with a dress shirt and necktie, slacks, and dress hat. Unfortunately, I don't get to wear it too often, as I consider it an outdoorsey casual garment, and I'm rarely outdoors in the winter.
That’s an amazing look. I’ve been trying to find a good jacket that suits me so I can dress like that
Good video. I have lot of them that I have collected and worn for years. Time for me to try out some new combinations
Yes please! I would love some whacky driving goggles, but my comment alone cannot decide that a product being introduced to Fort B. I need to see other people commenting the same.
I'll give up my black leather blazer when pigs fly!
I remember wearing one in high school although it was a bit over sized as opposed to more fitted but regardless it still looked great. Nowadays I prefer a Bomber or Harrington. Excellent video!
Definitely need you folks to offer driving goggles.
I only have two leather jackets, one is the blazer style and the other is the long trenchcoat style, lol. I haven't worn the long one in years (it's a relic from my past when I used to be a goth) and I only wear the blazer style leather jacket (which is probably from the actual 80's tbh) when I don't have anything else to wear, that one week in the spring when it's too warm to wear my fur coat and too cold to wear just a blazer. So I don't wear leather jackets a lot, and whenever I look into buying one, I always end up talking myself out of it. Most times of the year it's just either too hot or too cold for me to wear one comfortably. I live in Sweden so it's just either below freezing point or sauna hot. That said though, I do dream about leather jackets sometimes.
The golden brown suede jacket the host is wearing is a suede copy of 1930s US Army Air Corp A1 jacket. Look it up. The A1s were in horsehide. I have one. Also, please stop referring to military leather jackets as bomber jackets. That is a street or fashion term. They are flight jackets. These include the popular A2, G1, the Irvin, and B3 along with many others. See Eastman Leather or Aero Leather Clothing in the UK for current reproductions. I would like to see you do a show on flight jackets. Also note that no respectable flight jacket has hand warmer pockets. Airmen did not walk around with their hands shoved into jacket pockets.
Wow I didn't expect that Mac would appear in this video 😆
What about the most iconic one? Indiana Jones?
(Good Video! Love your channel!)
I think The Fedora Lounge did an article on this, it turns out there's at least 5 different jackets, differing lengths, weights of leather, open vents and closed, I think they sourced a number for the first film that got trashed by Harrison and Vic his stunt double so they ended up with them being made week on week to keep up with the destruction, also as each film went into production Harrison was getting finer and softer leather used so there really wasn't at any time a definitive Indy jacket, a ploy that reproduction jacket producers get away with when selling such items
Nice to meet your acquaintance Mr. Price🤙 Very good presentation🙌
Any chance you can do a video on muscular body types? I find most of the videos on "dress for your body type" are for either rakish individuals or portly fellows. But I have more of an X frame and if I knew, for example, "buy for the thighs and not the waist" I would have not made so many mistakes buying jeans and chinos. Great channel, thanks for all the great content!
Same here, bulky big guys are underserved til now Hahahahah
Shearling flight jackets were worn in WWII in the B17 and B24. The B52 service ceiling is 50,000 ft and the crew wears the current Nomex CWU 45P
Lots of leather jackets in the movie Donnie Brasco too.
I would buy a matching pair of fort B gloves and glasses!
Giọng hát của ah Đức phúc hát đúng tâm trạng hay quá

I can recommend Aero Leathers in Scotland if you have £ 800 - £1500 to spare, if not it's a great source of info if you want to learn about what you want out of a coat or jacket, with that knowledge I went to Five Star Leathers, going through Facebook you can chat about your leather choices, linings etc for very reasonable prices, they ship worldwide too, so now I'm the proud owner of a reproduction us navy G-1 originally produced by Bauer, my understanding was that at the time when America entered ww2 they sourced leather jackets from existing sports wear companies rather than manufacturing items designed for purpose, similar to German officer pilots, there was no official Luftwaffe pilots leather jacket, they simply went to a tailor and had a bespoke and functional jacket, I also gather they had heating in the cockpit, something British pilots opted out from because of the additional weight
Izz da jackeeeeet!
Off topic, but Nathan needs to do a video on rectangular dress watches. Thanks
I currently have several in several colors too, but if I honestly would only live with one, I would choose either grey or sage green, i think it would patina into beautiful shade when the fading of the color happens with the browning of the leather it would end up with a uniquely warm hue that looks like rare metal or stone that I won't miss either black or brown.
Can Gentleman Gazette do a style analysis on Frasier tv comedy sitcom? Thank you!
I've had a pig suede car coat - it kind of walks the line between a jacket and duster/trench coat in length - for a few years now as a multipurpose winter jacket. It's definitely got a western feel to it, and over the years it's been beat up and worn down from being out in the sun, working in it, and general abuse. Still a great jacket, and it looks surprisingly decent paired with slacks and a tie when I need to be formal-ish in chilly situations. I think it's some model of Scully.
That jacket must have a ton of seams in it. Pig is not a good material for jackets, hides are too small, and quality is inferior. Better to find a nice Italian calf, or lamb skin.
Sounds like he likes his coat. Why should he find a nice Italian anything? He said it was a great jacket and paired decently with slacks, so maybe it's not inferior to him, and I'm sure he saw the seams when he bought it. There's always going to be something better, so being content with what you have is a good thing. It also sounds like it has a lot of character; something you won't find by replacing it with Italian lamb. @@misterbobo8139
I like a suede jacket also. Creamy camel or velvety brown.
A nice suede Valstarino...
Saying that "vintage style" leather jackets that have a boxyer fit is not true. If you look at vintage leather jackets from the 30s to the 50s. You will see they are actually pretty slim fit. In fact the A2 bomber jackets that you can get now are much boxyer then their vintage or reproduction counterparts.
Em chúc chị soi sáng tết vui vẻ ạ ♥️♥️♥️❤️❤️❤️
I've got I think a 76' (don't know actual year) knight leather car jacket from my grandad after he died and it's my fave first leather jacket
I think it;s a difficult thing to pull off especially as you get older. I did have a dark brown suede car coat style with buttons twenty years ago and i wore that quite a bit. I'd avoid anything resembling a motorcyle jacket or aviator jacket and black leather (unless you ride a motorcycle or are a tough guy) as your not trully reprenting yourself. I curently own a Dark Brown funnel neck nubuck with a brass zip which is shearling lined with non elasticated waistband or cuffs and I think that's accepticle as it has a purpose in the winter. I think white smart trainers or biege chinos with a leather or suede turn it into some sort of prepy hybrid and doesn't work. I've seen a couple of nice looking jackets in marks and spencer jaeger suede utility coat and they have a suede harrington jacket which looks ok as well imho.
The Jaeger Suede Harrington from M&S is something I’m looking at right now!
I really wish videos like these threw in a strong disclaimer that any fashion brand leather jacket does NOT provide real safety for motorcycle riding.
Nathan is awesome, I'm glad he regularly appears in videos now. Ave Christus Rex!
Gentleman Drivers outfits and accessories are great subjects! Maybe driving watches would be a great new video now that jackets and driving cloves are already covered.
A tip for getting the style of a leather jacket in warm weather is to wear an unlined suede jacket. It captures the style of a leather jacket while being a lot cooler in warm weather.
Ohhhh leather jackets are tres chic!!
Never though Id see Js on Gentlemans gazette
Hi can I ask - where is the brown suede jacket you’re wearing from (the rusty brown one you’re wearing while running through what you’re wearing at the end)? I’ve been looking for that exact style for ages. What’s that style of jacket called? I know it’s called bomber but the collar is straight not rounded and flat like most bombers. Thanks, Mark
Mark, the Jacket is from the Brand Called "The Jacket Maker" You can find this exact jacket there.
@@gentlemansgazette I appreciate the response! Best, Mark
What about Aero Leather in Galashiels in Scotland they do a range of different style leather jackets based on jackets pre 1960’s
Tom Cruise Is very big fan of the leather jacket too.
can you guys do a video on the best Sherling jacket company?
Interesting, I was just looking for More casual tips since I think That sometimes its just More approriate with friends since it would turn into akward question if i wore classic timeless clasics

That Leather jacket looks real nice on you. have you ever ridden one?
He said at the end of the video that he doesn't even own one.

@@J.F.R Oh, O.K. Sorry, didn't know. Hope you had a nice breakfast .

Ridden a motorcycle or a leather jacket? 🤨
The color of your leather jacket made your lovely beard pop more very attractive☺
My favorite: cafe racer with extremely minimalistic detail, i.e. almost no detail, no extra zippers, pockets, rings, etc., (of which leather jacket makers are unduly fond), just plain. VERY SHARP and looks great even on an older guy. Every added detail distracts and lowers the look a notch. Less is more.
Absence of lapel (cafe racer style) is important for the minimalistic effect. No details is better.
Jon Bon Jovi rocks this look.
I wonder if there is any time when Sven, or anyone, would recommend wearing the Blazer style jacket? I bought one in Italy, and it is a great jacket.... but .... now I am second guessing my choice...
Personally, I own a few leather jackets. All are in a deep dark brown colour in the G-1 style (aka the Top Gun style minus the flight patches). Super versatile pieces that always lead to getting compliments
I am glad that you referenced the Fight club too, that red jacket was the whole highlight of that movie, even though I have not watched it yet.
It's on prime video and netflix if you're interested, great movie
@@rihe2692 Prime video? Heck yes! I will.
does anyone know what jacket that is for outfit 3
Is it worth it?
some good ideas here which i appreciate, but sneakers with leather jackets doesnt work for me. with a dearth of complimentary boots; tennis shoes could remain at the gym.

I have to disagree with you about leather blazers...I have two: one in black...one in brown. Every time I wear one of these I get TONS of compliments...I pair them with either a turtleneck underneath (colder months) or a crisp collared shirt (warmer months)......all I know is compliments abound every time...does not seem to be dated at all...
its dated but its ok
I suppose even as a gentleman it's odd that my jacket is leather and has spikes on it. I always get odd looks when I hold out the door for people 🍀
