Just putting the word out: for any 2023 runs of Acoustic Wave, his hip connection point may be assembled backwards. I couldn’t get the buttons part of the alt mode to sit flat no matter what. After watching and re-watching multiple review videos (including this one) I realized the piece with two screws that hold his legs together was actually backwards on my 2023 copy. So I took it part, flipped it 180°, and now the buttons panel sits flush in alt mode. It’s a bit of a pain to fix, but I am so much more relieved that it was fixable and now he looks perfect. So I’m just spreading the word.

The color of Soundwave in your video looks better than everyone else’s- like theirs were too bright and it made his blue too bright. Under your lighting, that blue is perfect 🤩
The problem at FT. It's too bright, too colorful sometimes. Like Rumble and Frenzy. Laserbeak and Ravage are perfect.
Great review! Fanstoys Blaster VS Deformation Space Blaster might be the MP battle of the century.

This character is apparently DESTINED to always have great toys based upon him. It's a shame it's out of my budget 'cause otherwise I would get it. Very cool review.

Great review and love the figure backstory. But I have to say, your footage and video quality is the stand out. Viewing this on an OLED screen is just eye-popping. Well done. I just ordered this guy as he was on sale. Your comparison at 3:54 made me confident of my choice vs spending 2x more for the official MP-13. And this head sculpt is just 👌🏻.

It looks like a great figure. Though I am 100 percent certain that Takara Tomy will be doing an MP13 Vrs.2 The fact that Fans Toys released this figure under a different name and at such a higher price tells me that they have inside info that this is the case. I will wait to for the official updated toon based Soundwave from TT.

Im in the same boat as you. Top 3 released Decepticons has toon styled insignias, it would look out of place with a reprolabeled insignia on a toon MP. If it could hold MP tapes it would had persuaded me to bite, but if i did i would have all the tapes but nowhere to store them unless i use MP13 anyway, and then whats the point? Cant be bothered to have to chase down all the tapes for a 4th time in case Takara makes a worthy improvement
Great video. Totally agree about the look matching the newer MP aesthetic. I love watching TF vids but MP sound wave is one of two figures I own and this is enough to make me want to double dip.

if you jam a metal bar into that little handle (for the second cassette) and push it up really really hard, you will be able solve the little problem you've got there. :) i've done it, and damage free guarantee if you cared enough

Thank you. Mine was jammed on its right side, but your trick made it work again. Probably not as intended but i dont care, now i can finally bring 2 complete tapes and Soundwave on my travels if i so choose without worrying of scratching the paint trying to get it out

Soundwave is my 2nd favorite Decepticon, [right behind Megatron]. That said, my next 4 bots are gonna Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, Sound & Megs, all MP
Had the same issue with the second cassette in the chest. It worked after I pull on it really hard :/ playing with this figure scares me sometimes
5:21 Toyhax *does* make Cartoon style factions symbols. It's a little jarring to see the toy/official logos on a toon aesthetic design, but you do you man.

Great video! Would have loved to see the pilot episode lamppost mode, though!
For a long time i wasnt gonna get him, thought it costed way too much complete and was certain Takara would redo him very soon. But life takes some twists and turns and suddenly i find myself with a golden opportunity to get him complete and shipped for half the original price.
When it arrived all i can say about it is that this is how i think MP-13 should have been from the start. Theres some parts thats not perfect, like loose hips on the humanoid tape and loose fingers on Soundwave itself. But the transformation is easy, heck im awful at new MPs but i could handle the transformation easily and if i can so can you. The joints are a bit too stiff and there are a stupidly amount of ratchets almost everywhere when ordinary friction joints would have been enough, but the paint and posing of the figure just blows all those drawbacks to the wayside.
The figure has IT, that magic you just cant explain and you wouldnt be surprised if it started to talk and walk away looking for Megatron or attack you. If you need a Soundwave in your collection, if you got the patience for it wait and see what TakaraTomy does next, it rather be superb if its gonna beat Acoustic wave. Or cave in and buy him for less than $500 with tapes and youre done. Its die cast heavy so maybe reinforce your shelf while you wait for him to arrive, just a tip.
For the tapes, the blue one is the blue one and is slightly better than the red one despite being a repaint. My Ravage looks awsome but its joints are to loose to be able to stand visibly great, so its spending all its time in the chest. It looks great in cat mode with an interesting transformation, but its rather shite. Better than the cat turd from Takara, but still shite. Missing Buzzaw and Ratbat, probably a future release with Soundblaster. Hoping for future Overkill, Slugfest and Beastbox & Squawtalk combiner

I love the reverence you show the G1 Soundwave. I also own Acoustic Wave, MP-13, but G1 Soundwave still remains my favorite.
Man oh man, both TT & 3P companies have been releasing some amazing updated decepticons one after the other in the past 2 to 3 years... I hope they also start releasing some super toon accurate autobots this year.
Are you insane/blind? TT has done nothing BUT Autobots all the time. If it werent for 3rd party, the Decepticon side would still be having glaring holes waiting to be filled in the MP line. To be even more picky, recent Decepticons has just been repaints and slightly better versions than last time, and in many cases not even worth picking up.

Honestly I have been struggling with this question so far.... it's very hard to say without FT being complete as we don't know how the combined mode will shake out. DX9 is really impressive in combined mode but so far the FT individuals are really nice. I do like the size of XTB's car lads though... tough choice.

I know that this will eventually get rereleased as Soundblaster, but I'm hopeful that one day we will have a purple Marvel Comics Soundwave.

Yeah, annoying. I have tried to force it every which way I can but any more and I'd be afraid of breaking something. It just won't budge.
Words cannot describe how frustrating MP-13's tape deck is. Even having one cassette in it gets stuck and sometimes I can't even pry it out from the front, I have to unscrew the back and force it out each time.
