    Absolutely a great, honest review Gavin. It's so nice to have a reviewer that says how it is and compares apple to apples unlike most car reviewers that compare apples to oranges. I get so annoyed hearing reviewers comparing the cost of a Tesla model 3 and Y to a Kia EV6 or Ionic 5 for example, and making out that you get just as good or better value for your money when in fact it is so far from the truth as those 2 cars are so much more expensive and to get the equivalent for your money you have to purchase the top of the range which is about $111k and the lowest in the range which is also more expensive has only half of the features that the Tesla has and misses out on some pretty important features in my mind. Thanks for a great review.

    Love the review and the videos! 👍🏼 Always informative. What I would love to see more of is road trip videos, cost of each charge, power usage and also overall EV charging capabilities at local motels and hotels. Would be such a great way to give shout outs to owners that support the EV community with on site charging. Lots of B rolls of the stopovers and accommodations would do wonders for the tourism industry too. Keep the content coming! 👍🏼

    Great review Gavin and as you said once you drive the car more you get used to where stuff is and you can adjust the things on the screen to have quicker access. Curious if you would have said “defrost windshield” if it would have worked since that’s the term us Roman Catholics use. You missed the great opportunity to say “open butthole” for opening the charge port. Also, I almost exclusively use the cameras to backup. On occasion I check the mirrors but the cameras are so good and show so much it is all that is needed.

    • @rob1733
      @rob1733 Před 2 lety +1

      Also, missed opportunity to show you can use voice commands to set the windscreen wipers. The myth that you absolutely need to use the screen to adjust the wipers is so damaging to the brand.
      Otherwise really fun review!

    • @foxtrot_in_socks1589
      @foxtrot_in_socks1589 Před 2 lety +2

      Aus and Kiwis more than like would use "defrost windscreen" because that is the term in both of those countries. Similar to the UK, we would also use "boot" instead of trunk, which makes "front trunk" a bit odd for us (in general).

    • @davedavenport8673
      @davedavenport8673 Před 2 lety

      @@foxtrot_in_socks1589 Yes, in the video he referred to Americans as Roman Catholics. I was suggesting that he try saying "defrost windshield" since the car is designed in the US and they may have not altered the speech recognition for different English speaking countries yet.

    Viewer from Canada here. Appreciate that your take is different from North American (and European) reviewers. Frankly, I don't know much about NZ industry: do you have a native auto manufacturer? I suspect not, given the objectivity of your review. There's no [ evident ] agenda showing OEM recalcitrance influencing your opinion.
    I just wanted you to know that there is a core of EV enthusiasts even in countries like mine, making ICE vehicles, that *DO* support the transition and that have also reached the inevitable conclusion that there truly is no competition. Good luck as you continue pushing the EV boulder uphill...

      The Princess was a great car... as far as I remember it. My father had one for a while and took us on family trips in it for a year or two. Sure was distinctive and not too bad for roominess for a collection of kids in the back. Funny how we don't see many of them around on the roads anymore though. It's a bit sad.

    Thanks Gavin for the excellent review. I ordered a Model Y after a test drive last week. You really need to drive one to understand why they are so popular. I saw an Ioniq 5 & EV6 up close & was surprised how small they look in comparison. I'm happy to wait til Feb - May 2023 as I need the FBT EV Legislation to go thru tho it is still unclear when this will be. I got an estimate that said I'll save $376 a fortnight on tax or close to $10k a year so am hoping it passes asap.

    22:55 I wouldn’t be surprised that Tesla owners will get cheaper charging at superchargers as offset when it’s opened up.

    Considering the amount of Teslas sold in NZ the Supercharging network is pathetic. 14- 15 chargers over the whole of NZ. 4 in the South Island. They are great to use and should be the standard but Telsa has not really made much effort on this one.

    Wiper - just press manually once & wiper control presents on the screen allowing to change its frequency. Easy! The longer u own & know Tesla, is going to b only easier & better.
    All drivers can suggest any possible improvement for users, can always feedback. Tesla does collate feedbacks. Eg. Improvement is made to blind spots screen position. Now is adjustable to your most suitable position. Cheers!

    Hi there. I'm planning a trip to New Zealand later this year and am hoping to rent a Model 3 from Auckland. I've gone camping in the Model Y in the States several times now during the pandemic. I've even hooked it up to a powered (110V) campsite when I was in Oregon. I assume you haven't tested this out, but were you able to trickle charge the Tesla Y when you were camping? I assume you were at a non-powered site? Were there adapters provided with your Tesla? I know the power plugs are different in the US vs. NZ so I just wanted to see if anyone has had any experience camping & charging a Tesla. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!
