The Tyler Tomlinson Keya-J delivers! It’s chunky on bottom, but tight. Crisp on top, but full. I’m loving the ebony fretboard. The Seymour Duncan Vintage P-90’s feature Alnico 5 magnets and a magnificently potent output. Perfect for driving the amp, and then rolling down the volume knob for some sugary sweetness.
The bridge pickup is a bit rude. And I mean that as high marks. It has a nice sting, and all over a thick, punchy bottom end. The neck position makes that low end a little bit warmer and looser, but is still clear and articulate all the way. It likes gain just as much as the bridge and is a whole lot of fun no matter how your choose to set your amp.
The middle position is snappy! And oh so chimey. It might have you thinking you’re playing single coils. But you still benefit from the warmth and smoothness of the mahogany neck and body. Simplicity is key here, and you won’t find a bad tone in this straight-forward offering from Knaggs.
