@@UltimaPhoenix-dx3kt since there was no fall damage in X there was no detection for what is and isn't a cliff, so any arts that would move you too much could send you off the side of a cliff
@@TommySkywalker11 Yep, even gostwalker was doing that (wich is a problem against some tyrants like Go-rha, the Guardian Deity (lv.60) because you are suppose to land on some small clifs (under it's water)

I love the irony that Overdrive prevents the use of chain attacks, but Elma is the queen of chain attacks with how often and how hard her specials hit.

Ya well it's not that great on bringer of chaos cause it's such a huge risk to give up your whole entire party gauge given how long it takes to come back and if you happen to die, you're just done. Not to mention now you got rid of a buffer to save yourself from scary attacks by not being able to chain attack after that. Not only that, if you do fill up the party meter during her overdrive, you cant even chain attack at all, absolute nightmare
@@jalalal8056 I'd say it's better on Bringer of Chaos just because Chain Attacks are garbage. Losing your party even matters less when a lot of enemies will straight up steal it from you. All the boosts are things you REALLY want on BoC, too.
@@jalalal8056 Her overdrive is better than bringer of chaos chain attacks and literally buffs you 24/7.
@@jalalal8056 Overdrive is almost required on a lot of BoC fights. When an enemy enrages they gain +50% break resistance, so even a legendary Master Scope will only cancel out the nerf and won't give anything extra, so Overdrive is crucial to lower that.
Not only that, Chain Attacks are nerfed to hell and an evasion art or level 4 is a better way of dealing with rage strikes (which drain your party gauge anyway so that's not much of a concern). The only problem will be filling the party gauge fast enough to refresh the counter.
In short, Overdrive on BoC good
She has amazing stats, three aux core slots, one of the best max affinity effects in the game as a skill, some of the most powerful specials you can find, an insane mechanic that borderline breaks the game in half, and she still doesn’t come close to matching Godfrey

Story was kinda meh. Really obvious foreshadowing and everyone is suddenly surprised when it was revealed in chapter 11. I felt like i was waiting half the game for everyone to figure what i knew 5 chapters ago before the game even needed to make it so obvious
X is pretty bad overall, but the music is good and the characters are mostly likeable. Runs great on WiiU emulator. Will be giving it another go before XC3.

Love how Elma's Challenge Mode battle leans more into her evasive build from Xenoblade X (i.e. Ghost Factory) whereas Elma's Arts, Skills & Specials as a "Blade" reminds us of how absolutely broken she can be in XCX due to her high critical power, positional bonuses and Overdrive.
Also, Full Metal Jaguar is such a badass name.
It’s also crazy just how busted they made all the DLC blades. Haha. If only they put a little bit more love into pre DLC blades, like Kasandra
Honestly idk why they made fiora like the best blade and the only countermeasure was to make her a healer class.
More like shield hammers in general. I would be fine with them being kind of slow if their attack stat wasn't so laughably low, and if the shield hammer rares you get had better skills. They don't need to be fast, they just need to hit hard and be better at retaining and getting agro.
It makes sense, to deal with the difficulty of Challenge Mode and BoC they made the Blades made for those really broken, otherwise Challenge Mode and BoC would be hell.

Ya it's really a shame. You think they could have at least made a good majority of blades str8 of outclassed that were actually pretty good before. Poor design choice to invalidate a lot of what you put so much effort into so many blades unique and you are essentially nerfing yourself not having a ton of dlc blades as they are braindead op

It's kinda weird how they made Elma so amazing in Chain Attacks, when her Overdrive mechanic effectively serves as a replacement for Chain Attacks. Oh well, doing multiple things extremely well will never be a bad thing.
Xenoblade X may not have a port but at least Elma’s in Xenoblade 2 being one of the best blades in the game.

For Overdrive, the first 100% not counting for Damage and Recharge isn't true, its just written in a very math-y way. When multiplying by a percentage, its setup to by calculated as *(%/100). For example, the starting 125% Damage is calculated as *(125%/100), or *1.25. Same for Recharge. If it was adding a percentage, then you would calculate +125% as *2.25.
Finally, the reason why I want to play Xenoblade X.
God I’ve got to get into Xenoblade 2. I’ve not looked at Elma in action too much in 2, and I think it’s awesome that she uses the Executioner and Shadowstrike animations for her level 4 special. She’s such a badass
Update: I have since played Xenoblade 2 and am currently working my way through Torna. I brought Elma into the final boss, and this was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Elma is the best.
Using Elma with Morag is really fun/silly. Since the evasion art Morag gets with her only has a cooldown of five, you can just loop it if you cancel into her other arts. Also it's neat that Morag gets a heal art with her.
Elma is one of my favourites strictly for her mini jukebox function. Having overdrive and a special unique monster theme is kinda fantastic.

I think it’s cool that the monsters get a superboss theme when Elma is in the battle as i hear Elma is a great superboss for the unique monsters in this game. Good thing they have Bringer of Chaos mode to even the battlefield against this tyrannical superboss :)

I remember the first time I used violent streak on Elma in this game was in one of the challenge mode missions I needed to upgrade her skills, and her overdrive count went from almost nothing to over 250 instantly. And that is the story on how Elma became my favorite blade in Xenoblade 2

I had burnt out of XC2's post-game content after I completed the challenge battles I needed to unlock Shulk and Fiora (plus the despair of starting NG+ and having to redo certain particular Blade Quests again), so this is my first glimpse of what Elma is capable of in-game.
As one of the 23 XCX fans, I am not disappointed.

I think that Elma is ex's best blade with Fiora and Mòrag's best blade with Corvin, Patroka, and Fiora.
She is amazing for fast superboss kills because in 1 round chain attacks, she does 4 damage cap hits in less than 1 second, and with Poppi QTpi and T-elos or KOS-MOS you can kill Kurodil in 20 secs.
She is broken.
I personally prefer using her on Mòrag, because she has an amazing evasion art for challenge mod and I usually combine her with Corvin, who is amazing in Mòrag.
I would say Elma for Smash, but Sakurai may nerf her in the process because of how strong she is!

XCX on switch with the Definitive Edition treatment would be the best switch game of all time.
I love X so much and just hearing the BGM when Elma is in the party just makes me crave a port of X.
But I notied you had KOS-MOS and Shalk in your party setup. A number of years ago you listed the best blades for each character and why and I've followed suit because I needed help to know which blade is more suitable for that character.
I also came here for the overdrive as i recognise it from X but didn't read the affinity chart as to know how to activate it in battle.

Im sorry, I need to mention this because it just happened and I can’t believe it. I’m playing this game myself for the first time. I just arrived in Fonsa Myma before even meeting Cole. I Pulled Kos-Mos. Before getting Mythra, I got freaking Kos-Mos! I have just won the game.
Lucky you. I'm in chapter 9, and still don't have her.
My rates were so bad that I had to rely on cloud save scumming to finally get her. So freaking awful.

Or you could use fiora with 98% crit 1600 damage and heal for like 10k using her level 2 during a chain attack while the enemy has break to do like 500k per hit

Interesting ... this pops in my recommendations after literally finish watching a play through of X today. Man I wish it was ported. I’m ashamed to say I don’t have Elma. XC2 was my first xenoblade and bought on launch and loved it. Most hours I’ve put in a sp game.
Got every launch blade pre NG+ and played torna but never got back to the main game after challenge dlc was added. Played xc1 when definitive came out which was great ( most intense screams I’ve ever heard!) but XC2 is special to me. This vid makes me want to go back soon. Elma was awesome in X.
Definitely gonna check out you vids eventually because this was an amazing in-depth guide man. Great job! Also isn’t it great to see all the new people jumping in from smash ... legit my most hyped smash dlc yet. Hopefully your guides pop up for them! I didn’t think dlc blade guides would be of use to me since I’m a « f2p » player, but since torna the golden country is apparently really good I think I’ll get the expansion pass so keep em coming!
One thing people might not know about elma that is quite important for strats is that you can use overdrive even if she is not in your team but to do so the character that is keeping her must be using her at the time you are trying to activate overdrive (+ your party gauge being full of course)
One of the most fun blades in the game. And Overdrive is so fun

I feel like this is the only blade in the game that is just always good in chain attacks. And yet Overdrive disincentivizes a focus on chain attacks. Funny enough..... In both cases I would be looking for Sigma and Omega drives somewhere in the party build. And this simplicity is appealing to me.

This game picked it up after beating the story of the first xenoblade, and let's just say it's way easier of a game but can be overwhelming when you first start there is even more ways to cheese your enemies as well as more ways for them to cheese you it's kinda like they wanted to make it more complicated but once you get the basics down you can literally take on anything hell I even managed to beat a level 98 saur at level 42...I mean yeah used customized difficulty but doesn't change how funny you can break this game even if you have the worst luck and don't get legend blades(minus free story ones) til end game.
Morag was able to switch very quickly between blades to get the smash art off, does Overdrive affect Blade Switch cooldowns as well?
Why cant there be an option for weapon appearance. I love blades like elma who's weapons look unique regardless.

I want to sort of correct something you said
The overdrive bonuses shown on the screen are all shown correctly. Damage and Recharge are both multiplied by that percent, not added. When multiplying, you treat it as a fraction or decimal. So 100% is just 1, 50% is 0.5 or 1/2, and 150% 1.5 or 3/2 or 1 1/2. For simple calculations, this ends up being the same as if you added that 100 less than that percentage (unless under 100%). So multiplying by 150% gives the same result as adding 50%. Using actual numbers, 100×1.5 gives the same as 100+(1/2)(100).
A very minor thing considering the point of the video, but as a math nerd, I needed to correct that
The problem is the overdrive counter is a source of additive damage. What that means is it also adds with the other sources of damage increases that elma has, so just saying you can multiply the percentage won't give an accurate total. For instance lets say elma already has 300% additive damage from her skills and aux cores. The overdrive boost will add to that making that between a 325%-800% damage boost so the initial increase isn't actually nearly as much as it seems so saying all damage is multiplied by that isn't actually accurate.
