  • If you love classic French style clothing then you need to know what the key pieces for French style are.
Today I’m sharing the most iconic 5 pieces you need in any French-inspired wardrobe so you can pull off that minimalist French girl style.
I would argue that this look is the most iconic look of all time and it’s not just the French who wear it.
Bob Dylan, Jeanne Damas, Julia Roberts, Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Anniston, Caroline de Maigret, and countless others have pulled off this look and it is so timeless and chic that I think it will never go out of style.
It’s also so versatile that any body shape, size, or style can pull it off.
And these 5 key pieces are also so ubiquitous that you can find them at any budget so this truly is the best outfit.
As you know I’m getting ready for my trip to Paris and I thought to myself, what if I lose my luggage and I have to live in only the things I’m wearing, what would I wear. This is the five-piece French wardrobe that would get me through.
If you’re looking for more french style inspiration you have to download packing list for Paris. It has over 60 resource links so you know exactly what to wear. Get that right here.

Hey Andii! Great advice and another gal here in the comments recommended the same thing. I think the main reason I want to take it with is because it is currently my everyday bag and I'm really comfortable with it. I also carry water and a camera with me everywhere so I need a moderately large bag. Do you think it will still be OK? Glad you're here. Thanks for watching and taking the time to share your advice!

Brianna Lamberson Hey Brianna. I would try and bring something that has a zip closure only just so that you feel confident if you use the Metro or are in crowed tourist area where pickpockets or opportunists may be...... I live in London and NEVER carry bags/purses without a proper zip closure! ❤️❤️

@@Aisstylish thank you so much!! That's perfect. The one straw bag I'm taking does have a zip closure. Also, luckily, I won't be going to too many tourist traps and my husband grew up in France and I in Germany and we lived in Chicago for 8 years, so we both feel really comfortable around a lot of people in crowded spaces and watching our stuff. In France we tend to only carry straw bags in the summer. Your uniform is basically for spring/autumn so we would be wearing leather ankle boots and carrying a leather tote bag or crossbody bag. For winter a longer woollen or padded coat and add a big scarf.

I've always liked this style very much, and you look very classy.
I also love wearing a blazer and ballet flats with my jeans. For a trip to Europe, however, the straw bag, while cute at the beach, is a very poor choice for walking around cities. Any bag that is open, not zipped closed, is carried over the shoulder instead of crossbody, is a prime target for pickpockets and thieves, which, sadly, is a huge problem in Paris and Europe. I carry a black faux leather Fossil crossbody messenger bag. It has several zippered pockets, both internally and externally for keeping valuables safe, a very thick, cut resistant strap, and looks great with everything I wear traveling. I've had many friends be targeted by pickpockets, losing passport, credit cards, and money can ruin your trip. Be aware, use caution, and educate yourself about how pickpockets work and who they target. CZcams has many excellent documentaries to watch.

I totally agree with you on the Sam Edelman ballet flats. I have higher arches and these shoes actually give more support than some street shoes. Plus, they’re so small and flat to pack I can bring black, brown and then the dark blue velvet ones for fun.

They were a Godsend or else my feet would have died. I was way off on the straw bag thing, although I was confidently rocking it. Ugh...I hate pointing this out so don’t take this as hatefulness on my part...but at the same time I don’t like things not truly represented...you changed belts!! So in actuality, you can’t just take the belt off your jeans and wrap it around a jacket bc the jacket is too bulky and the belt needs to be longer!! Very very few outfits transition from day to night, effortlessly. You could have said “In anticipation of going out later, roll up a longer belt and tuck it into your purse for an evening change up.” I agree about taking a leather purse vs a straw for this time of year. I’ve been to Paris twice...such a beautiful city...enjoy!!!

My favorite has to be jeans and white tee! I do however have a straw bag and I LOVE that too. Jeans for me are my weakness. I wear pretty basic clothing but I switch it up with my jeans. Others might not even notice but it makes me happy.. I also LoVe a good white tee. However I do struggle with keeping the underarms looking fresh. I usually do oxi-clean soaks a few times a year but sometimes I have to retire my white tees after a while. I do think that going with a more oversized look would help so there is less touching between my sweat and the garment .

    • @BriLamberson

I would argue that the style you claim as classic French is, and has been truly been an American ensemble long before you were born. Denim is. French workman’s fabric true. Hope you learn a lot on your first trip to Paris. First accessory purchase should be an Hermès scarf in a pattern and colors that goes with everything. The straw purse? Pickpockets love them. Good grief!

    • @BriLamberson
      @BriLamberson  Před 4 lety +3

Hi Rebecca! I totally agree and that's the point I make in the video. I do think there is a "cool" style that transcends borders and time. I'm excited to learn from people watching and talking to other cool chics while there. Doubt I'll have the $$ to buy an Hermès scarf but maybe I'll find one at the thrift store. Pickpockets can try their best on me but they will not succeed.

Personally, I think heels and jeans look tacky as though one is “trying too hard.” My hair is long, so a chignon is. essential. 😊. You are probably right, Brianna is pretty young and I didn’t receive my first Hermes’ scarf until I was 25. I have adored them ever since. I really enjoyed this video. However, I am confused about the classic pieces you have chosen. Not sure if it's a regional thing, but I live in Toronto, Ontario Canada and I hardly see anyone wearing blue jeans and a white t-shirt. Jeans, yes but with other tops and never a white t-shirt. When I tried this look once before people were asking me if it 2as laundry day and why was I wearing just a plain white t-shirt. I still like this look when I see it but I don't see people here wearing that. Do you think it's an American thing? Please let me know if you see this look when you go to Paris. I'm curious to know. Have fun, enjoy and make great memories. Bon voyage.

Hey Sherry! That is too funny. I suppose it could be regional although I can't say for certain. The t-shirt is technically an undergarment so I can see why it's seen as a bit odd in Canada. I did include images of two Parisian women wearing white t-shirts with jeans and a black blazer in the video. But I will be on the lookout in Paris for sure! XO - B

Great question! Apple's are beautiful and need to accentuate their waist. Maybe try belting your blazer or wearing stripes underneath the jacket. For the blazer, try cropped if you're not belting the blazer, so you can give the waist more definition.
For jeans, try stretch jeans with a boot cut and mid-rise. Or if you're wanting to do high waist, try a brand called Not Your Daughter's jeans. Hope that helps! Let me know if I can do anything else to help out.
