I mean, despite the fact he was trying to do things the completely wrong way, I don't find them toxic, at least not in the way usual relationships go in these shows. He's apparently a bad person in a grey area, and he took advantage of her and her powers to become powerful, but I don't feel it had anything to do with them as a "couple" or even intimate people. There wasn't a clear relationship dinamic created for them. They kissed, but it was more like a thing from the moment and then it was just about their very different views of what to do with the fold.

Darkling is not so bad after all. He and the other ones like him was seeing like monsters and mostly kill for no reason.It was not their fault to be born like this.The one who was murdered could be someone mother, father, brother or daughter. He just wanted to protect his kind. He doesn't know how to use his power perfectly so he created that black mass. At final, when I was finishing the series I was thinking that grisha life in the whole series was like jew's in the WWII (my opinion). They needed to be saved. Even if it is just a fiction ppl don't think how will it be in reality. Just think how it will be if tomorrow a child with some power will appear. They will put him in cages and make investigation. How ppl will see them. Look just how hateful are the ppl over something so insegnificant like sexuality or gender and then tell me IF something new and DIFFERENT will appear will they be seen equal

He believed in her before she even believed in herself, he empowered her and enjoyed watching her be in her power. He never backed down from her.

I have never been obsessed with other couples in film before. Twilight? Nah. 50 Shades of meh? Nah. Darklina.... OH YES! The reason we are so obsessed with Darklina because the acting/chemistry between Jessie and Ben is off the charts. Ben's acting is out of this world and Alina, the way she looks at him with teary and hurtful eyes during that painful conversation about her powers being exploited... I felt it.. All of it. I love the way the character Alina looks at Aleksander, and vice versa. If they start dating in RL, I won't get mad. We all see the chemistry on screen!

Though I really wish she was able to find out herself who he was, rather than Baghra just spilling the beans with no input from him. I don't know how it is in the books, but the way his eyes spoke when she was pointing out his mistakes of making her a slave, essentially, showed that he didn't think how his actions would make her feel. And like she said, it didn't matter to him who got hurt, as long as his goals were met. He messed up badly, but I can't wait to see what they do with this. They can't just give us electric chemistry for nothing! Would they??

Man, I'm obsessed with these two, and this is utterly heartbreaking, damn 🥺. I genuinely don't understand how these characters aren't together. They are friggin soulmates, darkness and light, yin and yang. Hell, even Ben Barnes said it himself. Just because Mal is the good guy does not mean he and Alina belong together. The Darkling and Alina they defy each other, they challenge each other, it's so interesting. Yes, the Darkling is manipulative and he is violent, but that's what he was taught in order to survive. I mean tbh I think Zlatan is more of a bastard, letting Fjerdans in, so they can raid the docks and kidnap and kill Grisha, no wonder the Darkling wants to kill them. Throughout the decades he's only had himself for company, to make decisions, and he's become colder and crueller because well, of time. With Alina, he doesn't feel alone anymore, he feels like he could spend forever with her. That moment where she touches his hand and the light just exploded, his face! His face said it all. It's like he's saying I've finally found someone, and Alina could really be his balance. I feel like when she said to him that he didn't give her a choice, neither did she. When Baghra took her, she should've went back and gotten the truth out of the Darkling, she knows him better than bloody Baghra, he would've told her I think, and she could decide from there. She doesn't get how much the Grisha had to suffer and maybe he could've told her that so she could understand. I feel like he really wants to protect Alina as she is the only one like him, and, if they got the chance, the other side would try to kill her. I swear, there is literally so much potential with these two they're really interesting and complex characters. I hope Netflix realises because God knows I'm going to fucking lose it if they don't.

This is so strange that one of them kills the other i don’t mind tht they fight for a while against each other would only make it more fun but to end up killing him damn and don’t say oh but he is evil daemon and Stefan did a lot of fucked up things and everyone still loved them and rooted for them to be with Elina so don’t come at me with that shit ahh such a shame for the darkling couldn’t be hotter than he is in the series and they look so hot together ffs hahahh

He did what was necessary even if extreme war is war stuff like that happen sadly but he ain’t all dark and evil or doing it because he loves killing and gets off from it which already for me makes him a great character it’s a shame Alina if written the way she is because I truly thing she had the chance to change him for good

I don’t want Alina to be with Mal or The Darkling, she’s fine as she is and she needs to explore more of the world.

Man, I'm obsessed with these two, and this is utterly heartbreaking, damn 🥺. I genuinely don't understand how these characters aren't together. They are friggin soulmates, darkness and light, yin and yang. Hell, even Ben Barnes said it himself. Just because Mal is the good guy does not mean he and Alina belong together. The Darkling and Alina they defy each other, they challenge each other, it's so interesting. Yes, the Darkling is manipulative and he is violent, but that's what he was taught in order to survive. I mean tbh I think Zlatan is more of a bastard, letting Fjerdans in, so they can raid the docks and kidnap and kill Grisha, no wonder the Darkling wants to kill them. Throughout the decades he's only had himself for company, to make decisions, and he's become colder and crueller because well, of time. With Alina, he doesn't feel alone anymore, he feels like he could spend forever with her. That moment where she touches his hand and the light just exploded, his face! His face said it all. It's like he's saying I've finally found someone, and Alina could really be his balance. I feel like when she said to him that he didn't give her a choice, neither did she. When Baghra took her, she should've went back and gotten the truth out of the Darkling, she knows him better than bloody Baghra, he would've told her I think, and she could decide from there. She doesn't get how much the Grisha had to suffer and maybe he could've told her that so she could understand. I feel like he really wants to protect Alina as she is the only one like him, and, if they got the chance, the other side would try to kill her. I swear, there is literally so much potential with these two they're really interesting and complex characters. I hope Netflix realises because God knows I'm going to fucking lose it if they don't.

I love this 🖤 I saw the series and then I read the original triology, the book disappointed me ENOUGH. the darkling is not well developed, his potential as a villain is wasted, his journey is not well told and alina is not allowed to feel anything genuine for him or explore what they could have had because Mal was glued to her at all times. .. BORED

I'm not sure if he loves Alina or the power she has but despite all this they are soulmates and I hope they will be together in another universe and be happy forever because I loved them so much (especially darkling) and their relationship would have worked if they weren't for such opposite characters.darkling is extremely bad, toxic and power-loving. it is ingrained in the dark.can never be saved.alina is an interesting character. she can sacrifice herself for all mankind and never use her power in the direction of evil.anyway they are two powerful people in love but they will never be end up. so sad :((((
