- The Swedish Semla is a classic Swedish pastry. In February we have Fettisdagen also known as semmeldagen (the Semla day). A perfect opportunity to eat Swedish food and learn Swedish.
You get to practice ingredients in Swedish like grädde or mandelmassa. Which can be great if you want to practice the Swedish language and baking.

We have the same thing in Estonia. But we don't add mandelmassa. Only whipped cream. Or jam and whipped cream.

Im dyslexic and these are perfect for me to learn, because they create funny images in my mind.. that make it meaningful because its enjoyable and the memes are all so relevant even if its just a flash of a funny joke! And, We had a semla making day here in NZ, when a swedish friend was visiting, after a nz friend had studied in sweden for a year. Delicious! And we were covered in icing sugar and sticky cream 😂 I can see the appeal!

We have semla here in Estonia too! It's called "vastlakukkel" and we eat them to celebrate "vastlapäev"! Also instead of the mandelmassan we usually put some kind of jam in it :)
Yes! Yes! Yes! Last night I made semlor myself and today I tried them for the first time. They're absolutely delicious! I messed up my moustache and beard. 😂😂 For Christmas I made also saffransbullar med vanilj, kannelbullar och glögg. But I can't beat the king Adolf, I've had only two, now I'll eat one more. 😅Sweden is the best! Greetings from Greece.

Pancake day here in the UK, also traditionally the beginning of fasting for Lent. Pancakes with lemon juice and sugar are delicious but semlor look amazing!
Are there gluten free ones in Sweden? I hope so for when I visit one day!

Finally someone how says "fettis-dagen" and not "fet-tisdagen".

Jokes aside "Glad Fettisdagen" is what you would say for "Happy".
(Also works for Easter which is relatively soon)

No, it's not "fettis". It's "fat" and "tuesday". Directly translated from the french name "Mardi Gras". It's shrove tuesday in english.
You are wrong. It means the fat day, the only correct thing in your comment is about English calls Shrove Tuesday. Fettisdag is not french so don't compare or break down the words into the French language.
