- Two former members of Sonic Team join forces once again after 20 years. Their first game 'Balan Wonderworld' looks like it's about to tap in to some lost Sonic Team magic from their golden age, and I honestly couldn't be happier about this.

Yes, this video aged like milk.
Sorry that words cannot describe how disappointed you probably are about this game.
Lmaoooo
Words cannot describe the levels of salt this comment radiates
I am SO sorry, buddy... It didn't have to be like this...
Yikes bro, yikes...
Ngl, I love Balan’s design. Feels simplistic but at the same time unique.
That's creativity at work. Remember this, and support it!
Personally I don’t like the design. Especially the hair.
Kind of makes me think of some sort of bizarre fusion between NiGHTS and Cappy from Mario Oddessy when he's not possessing Mario's hat
@@jeromemccalla9520 The hair is a bit off yea...
@@jeromemccalla9520 I don't see a problem with it tbh. I like the hair too it's very Billy hatcher in a way haha
I can't imagine how disappointed Digi must feel right now.
oof ikr
I always forget that Sonic Team made more than just Sonic.
Can’t blame you, at times it feels like so did Sega.
Ristar, Space Channel 5, Billy Hatcher, Chu Chu Rocket.... Oshima and Naka are awesome creators!
You and every other Sonic fan it seems
I’m a sonic fan but I understand there are other fan bases. But why tho. Nights is so old and that taxi game is horrible....don’t get me started on the other games
@@takeyourheart114 Crazy Taxi isn't horrible. The faster you get the people to their destination, the more time you get. The more money you make, the higher the score. You memorize the maps and find shortcuts. How is that hard? NIGHTS is a weird one. That's the one game that's love it or hate it because it explains nothing when you start and it's weird to figure out. But it IS playable.
Why are people bitching about this game having similarities with Nights. Not like we'll get another Nights game any time soon. Sega's too busy milking that poor blue hedgehog dry.
Well, we can give the blue hedgehog a break with a NiGhts game every now and then. That or Bayonetta. I love me some Cereza, she's just adorably sassy! Hell on that note, FOCUS ON PSO Online and start raking in that MMO Money Stream! MAKE PSO AVAILABLE TO US ALREADY!
@@MisteRRYouTuby PSO2 was released here already lol
@@dcvmu ...oh. Really? Where?
@@MisteRRYouTuby In the US! It came out this year for Xbox One, Windows 10 Store, and just recently Steam!
@@dcvmu Well, I feel silly! I need to get it and sign up. Is it still free or is there a subscription fee involved?
Digi, I'm so sorry man. It wasn't supposed to be like this.
POV: You're here because you expected to get into a journey of dreams but got struck by reality of what the game shaped up to become.
Dear god I was too excited for this goddamn game
@@m0ckyzo185
Well, no one's at fault here. Everyone got their guards down and didn't see it coming (But I was more suspicious about it when I first saw the game, so I had low expectations)
But we've learned a lesson: Never put your guard down, stay ready. You never know when something bad will happen.
I love absolutely everything about Balan Wonderworld, but what honestly delights me the most is seeing so many new faces already drawing inspiration and comfort from Balan - just like I did with NiGHTS back in 1996! Even if Balan is similar in character design, he is evoking the same vibes of hope and inner peace for a brand new audience. And we get to discover this Wonderworld together! I could not be more excited!
Yeah, you hit the nail on the head there with that 'vibes of hope and inner peace' part. That's precisely the emotion NiGHTS gave me back in the day, and that's the same sort of feelings i'm getting from Balan. I completely agree! ~
Yasss 😍
Well, said. 😎👍🏾
Big oof.
Yeah, sure
I miss the "dark age" where there was PASSION to these Sonic games.
It's better when you try and Fail then not bother to try
The dark age was with sonic. Everything else seemed to have been golden.
the dark age is the dark age and that's it after that SEGA didn't learn anything
I guess Sega now didn't Live and Learn
=..........SONIC2006 WAS RELEASED BY "OTHER SONIC TEAM"....WHEN "REAL SONIC TEAM" WAS CONVINCED TO LEAVE BECAUSE OF THEY WANTED TO FINISH ALL WORK ON SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG GAME AND NOT MAKE SONIC2006
.....IF THAT BALAN WILL HAVE SUCCESS,THAT'LL MEAN ABOUT NEXT *THEIR* SONIC GAME WOULD B ALSO SUCCESFUL
Yeah, seeing old school Sonic Team back in full form with a beautiful and wondrous looking game feels so great. I know it'll never happen, but I'd love to see Naka and Oshima take charge and have full creative freedom on a brand new Sonic game and go wild with it. It definitely won't happen, but that old school Sonic Team feeling is just calling for a new Sonic game to be made using that passion and creativity.
.........FOR ME-IT'S ABOUT ONLY HAVING OVERWHELMING ANGER AT SEGA ABOUT WHAT THEY'VE DONE WITH SONIC SINCE 2006
=THOSE REAL SONIC TEAM GUYS ARE STILL AT LARGE AND MAY REVIVE THAT ALMOST FORGOTTEN SONIC....BUT SEGA....THEY CONVINCED THEM TO STOP FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG GAME,BUT COULDNT FORCE 'EM TO SONIC2006
Oh how I wish this can happen! Sonic needs and deserves a good running streak again. If Balan Company isn't locked in with Square, Sega really oughta consider having them collab with Sonic Team!
The Just Sonic mentality was a huge mistake, then 2010 was when the series stopped trying to be good & became a parody of itself. We just finished what I hope will be known forever as the worst decade for Sonic Games.
It’s hard to watch this knowing how the finished product turned out. It’s like Mighty Number 9 all over again. Digi, to you and all of the other Sonic Team fans that were burned by this game, I’m sorry.
Welcome to today.
Where this game pulled a cyberpunk 2077 on us
We're gonna need a post-mortem for this take my guy
@9:48 - 9:55 was already a super stretch. Naka and Oshima were nowhere NEAR "Creators on the highest level" of anything for decades.
I'm surprised no comparisons are being drawn to Sonic, specifically the Adventure style design in the artwork.
For Naka's sake Leo's even got the spikey hair and pose.
Yeah, the artwork definitely is reminiscent of the Adventure art style, I love it
I was just thinking this very thing. I'm seeing Sonic Adventure throughout the trailer.
Hold up did you say sonic adventure 3?... Oh nevermind I misread, I will return back to my dungeon waiting
@@segastars9802 There's also Ohshima using Sonic's face as a reference point for Balan's, it's in one of the videos out.
It's about time we get something new and refreshing. The creativity and magic returns!
I see you on every Nights related vid, so i'll assume you have an unhealthy obsession with the franchise.
i know right i was getting tired of all those FFVII videos
@@time4manmode945 Now we get something different
Plot twist : Balan Wonderland is so bad that makes Sonic Forces a masterpiece
This game really makes me appreciate sonic forces tbh
Its Sega's very own Mighty No9.
@@RayTheSnivy What I meant is that both Capcom and Sega had two of their greatest creators leave the company and try to make spiritual sucessors to their creations only to have them fall flat on their face.
As much crap as people give Square Enix nowadays even if they do something legitimately good, I'm honestly surprised that Square Enix helped Yuji Naka preform this PRO GAMER MOVE. And the fact that It's Square Enix letting them do it says a lot about how creatively bankrupt Modern Sega and Sonic Team have become. Why else do you think that Sonic Team relies on their fanbase to make creative Sonic fan games?
Sonic Team is out of ideas and needs new blood, thats why we’ve been getting the same generic artstyle from LostWorld in the modern games. Sonic Team wants to copy Nintendo but they forgot what made Sonic good in the first place. Sonic was the platformer that was supposed to be different than the average Platformer but now he’s just a Mario clone now essentially .
@@theminecraft2516 By the way, Team Reptile (creators of Lethal League) are making their own spiritual successor to Jet Set Radio.
I've heard this in a couple of places now, but I must not be clued in. Why do people give Square Enix crap nowadays? To me, they've always seemed to be very clean compared to their AAA contemporaries.
@@SkilledYetTalentless Three Words: Final Fantasy XIII
@@faidou9954 How truly petty.
Despite the superficial similarities to NiGHTS, I don't think Naka and Ohshima are getting enough recognition for how discrete Balan is. It's absolutely the work of seasoned pros - tying together the various gameplay styles by making Balan a ringleader is such a deft touch. Circuses show a variety of acts at once, so it's really clear what you're in for. The circus aesthetic is also easy to elevate into dreamlike surreality through Ohshima's trademark style. I love NiGHTS, you know I do, but Balan conveys itself so much more clearly.
Also, without any disrespect to this game that as far as I know doesn't exist, but I can't imagine a NiGHTS spiritual successor recapturing the same sense of wonder so clearly. I've seen a flying whale plenty of times before, but there's a whole new level of wonder with windmills on its back.
Well said, Shay man. The design aesthetic for NiGHTS was inspired by Cirque Du Soleil, after Naka and Ohshima went to see a show once during the 90's. The fact that Balan Wonderworld is literally taking place within a theatre setting too means they're still inspired by that show to this day, only now they have much more freedom to explore that inspiration unchained. Ohshima especially is having a field day with the costume designs, i absolutely LOVE some of the characters he's drawn for this. It's beautiful.
@@DiGiValentine I thought you hated nights
PhaseOntoTheAvenue have you watched any of his old Who Dat videos on NiGHTS characters? Digi and his girlfriend (if I remember correctly) created an OG fan-site for the NiGHTS franchise. I would assume he enjoys the characters/games.

Plot Twist: He Do'nt! 😳😳😳
It's actually a Classical Theater because in that type of environment, you do have costumes even animals and I know how it feels because way back in Kindergarten, I did this Christmas thing with students and in Elementary, we had this Shadow puppet and/or puppet-like thing going on in the Gym, it's been so long so don't expect me to remember that and the whole thing, I can quickly and gradually "retrieve" my memories to explain more but still.
Sega refuses to fund Bayo2, series is saved by Nintendo.
Sega fans: NINTENDO STOLE IT FROM SEGA AAAHHHGGGG!!!
Sega refuses to do anything with NiGHT's, series creator makes spiritual successor to the series with Square Enix.
Sega fans: SE STOLE THE IDEA FROM SEGA, STOP COPYING THEM AAAHHHGGGG!!!
I'm noticing a pattern here.
The pattern is that Sega is lazy ;)
@@naikou1633 Sort of
The Pattern is: Every time Sega has made a big mistake that another company has had to come in and make up for, said other company gets the flack from Sega Fans instead of them berating Sega for F'ing up in the first place.
Basically Nintendoes what segawouldn’t
And what square enix would what segawouldn’t
Sega: doesn't make another JSR
Team Reptile: fine, ill do it myself...
@@m0ckyzo185 oh my god thats right there's a fan JSRF fan game coming out that people are excited for. God Sega really does have this horrible habit of abandoning their non-sonic IPs.
Loved early sonic team for the heavily saturated colors in their games. In a lot of ways they defined how all Sega games were to look back then.. Good to see they didn't change the aesthetic.
God the bright colors!!! I miss bright colors in games. Hell Mario looks tame in comparison(no hate on the the little Plummer)
@@CrystalArtest hate on him all you want. Fine by me :]
Seriously a lot of games these days do look pretty bland.
Garpocalypse sadly true
Precisely. I'm convinced that the reason i adore bright vivid colours so much is because of that early Sonic Team aesthetic. They clearly had a huge impact on me back in the day. I'm so glad to see they're returning to that sort of palette.
Bright colors ftw! If you've seen the Sonic screensaver that came with Sonic and Knuckles Collection for the pc, the images in it really sum up the cheery atmosphere and brightly colored look they had going on when it comes to some of their older games. I'm a HUGE sucker for bright colors myself, so I'm happy to see a new game with such a cute and vibrant atmosphere. It's also what drove me to Sonic Mania.
NiGHTS: Into Trains
In a good way.
I honestly want to give this kind a Spiritual Successor a chance and hopefully not end up like Mighty Number 9 or mediocre as Yooka Laylee begin a mixed bag. Or should I say "Hatcher's Odyssey In NiGHTS' Time"
You forgot Kid Chameleon
The diference of the games you mentioned is that this is a Square Enix game and not an indie title that need 4 million dollars from the public to make the game
@@eliasnicolasmiranda4940 Very true, you can usually count on Squeenx to at least make the game look visually interesting and decently entertaining gameplay-wise (Lighting Returns notwithstanding, the knockoff of Zelda MM's Bombers' Notebook quest was the end of me, I ragequit so hard, how do you even make finding _a single number_ a million times harder than finding five?) enough to carry it even if it _does_ suck like FFX-2, XIII and KH3 did (though it's _pretty clear_ from the trailer that staff from DQXI are working on this game so I _think_ it's in good hands)
if you mention Mighty number 9 and Yooka Laylee, you should mention that even the original source had some mediocre games, not all megaman games were the best, some were bland like the later titles of megaman x for example, Also did you not forget that Atrocious Banjo Kazooie game the xbox 360 had???? Meanwhile there werent as many Nights games.
With some luck, this turns out a Bloodstained and not a Might Nr9
This aged amazingly
Top 10 videos that aged like milk
Oof
I feel not only does the aesthetic of the game remind me of Nights, but Billy Hatcher as well in some of the character and level design
Alot of Sonic Team games had the same look due to having the same artist. That same artist is now with Balan.
I feel sorry for you, dude. :(
When this came out, I remember comparing the main character design to those found in NiGHTS, which obviously makes sense, but level-wise from the looks we got it reminded me of Billy Hatcher.
So I had war flashbacks when I saw the rails. The god damn rails in Billy Hatcher man, those godforsaken rails.
Leaving that aside, I think we can only wait and see more of Balan Wonderworld and see how it goes gameplay-wise, because I think the story was enough to hook a good chunk of us, but how it plays is another important factor.
The boy & girl look like characters from Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg and The Hat Dude look like NiGHTS
I can't believe I'm just now hearing about this game.
It's sad thinking about how this game turned out.
Yeah it's really disappointing.

Holy *crap!* How did I not notice that!? 😲🤣
Torrie Starfrost God I missed the old sonic team.
I didn't notice that but wow makes sense now
When I saw the character, my first thought was “He looks like Arsene but more cartoonish and a lot less devilish”
@Lilac Milton lol I agree with you, but for once the Persona connection runs deeper than we think :P NiGHTS and Persona are both inspired by Jung's theories on the collective unconcious and its archetypes, and I imagine Balan could be a similar figure to NiGHTS and Personae (who are both based on the Jungian Shadow). We'll have to see though, because IIRC it was Iizuka who worked on and instructed the team on NiGHTS's Jungian aspects.
Man this guy really must be disappointed
This didn't age well. That's a damn shame.
The main boy got that billy Hatcher look to me for some reason. First thing I saw when looking at him. At least the colors anyway.
Same artist. :)
"This is NiGHTS 3 right?"
The art style reminds me of the Sonic Adventure series
I like it
It's pure Sega. Everyone loves it! :)
I grew up with sonic team and my favorite childhood game was nights l loved the story and the art so yeah I'm extremely happy about this
Yeah i played and beat Nights first time a couple months ago and ppl who think this game is stepping into our dream jester thing's territory were weird. Aside from Balans design and the story premise, they arent anything alike. So we good, Nights aint replaced and as you said they can happily coexist if Sega ever decides to bring Nights back. Which they seem to be fond of reviving old IPs lately, if Alex Kidd can be raised up, then there's absolutely hope. In the meantime I'll enjoy Wonderworld when it drops
Honestly, if SEGA are paying attention then all these 'spiritual successors' and 'nostalgic callbacks' might kick them up the arse to breathe life in to their older IP's. As you said, if Alex Kidd can make a return (alongside Streets Of Rage, Panzer Dragoon, etc etc) then i see no reason why NiGHTS can't. Hell, if we're lucky we might finally get another Burning Rangers ..... .. . . . ok that's probably my own wishful thinking again.
@@DiGiValentine I'd love another Burning Rangers. Haven't had the opportunity to experience it yet but i love the concept, aesthetic, and also l found out recently that the game just so happened to release on the day I was born, of the same year so thats a sign for me to get on it lol. Wonder why they never rereleased it.
a couple of spiritual successors are being made as of late, if you love Jet set Radio, you should look up Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, because thats its spiritual successor and was recently announced. Even the soundtrack is being made by the same composer as Jet set.
@@theprocrastinator6813 yeah Cyberfunk sounds cool and im happy to get it when it gets here. But nothing will stop the desire for an actual new jet set radio for me lol
@@MagillanicaLouM that's true, since it plays a little similar to Jet set, hopefully it increases demand for this unique genre and Sega finally realizes they should receive the franchise again.
I can remember playing NIGHTS Journey Into Dreams as a kid and the magic that game had was unreal. I'm 22 now and seeing Balan just brought back such an amazing feeling. It's a shame SEGA is constantly forcing sonic games and wouldn't even let them give us one more NIGHTS game. With the development tech we have now the visuals and audio for a new NIGHTS would be gorgeous. I hope Balan Company and SEGA patch things up so they can combine both the Nights and Balan worlds. Just imagine playing a Balan level that swaps mid way into a NIGHTS level.
Well you might as well play nights cuz this ain't it chief
I'm so, so sorry... 😢
I'd say that even if Balan Wonderworld is an actual spiritual successor, is that even a bad thing? When it comes to NiGHTS, have any of the fans really ever been saying that they don't want another NiGHTS game or a spiritual successor? Granted, I don't follow the fandom nor really know what the fandom thinks in general, but no matter what fandom we're talking about, would a good game getting a new spiritual successor that is also (hopefully) really good ever not be a good thing?
You're right about one thing though: It IS the rebirth of the "Shitty" Sega and "Shitty" Sonic Team, only now it's under the labels "Square Enix" and "Balan Company."
This video aged like fine wine.
oh boy...
watching this video already knowing how the game turned out hurts so much...

But actually, now that I remember that. I could see them making something a la DMC Mobile to test the waters

Without becoming long-winded I resonate heavily with your opinions on the matter. Nights into Dreams helped shape my perception of the world during my childhood and whatever that feeling is its sorely needed right now. Because of current situations and overall.
Because this feeling isnt something dated. It was just something that was forgotten. And I cant wait to experience it again, pushing even further than before now that technology has come so far!
7:31 Character design of NiGHTs mixed with the the cinematography and 3D art style of Dragon Quest, it's certainly an interesting combo.
I bet some of the people behind Dragon Quest are helping Naka and Ohshima in development, considering Sqenix is developing this game

OOOOOFFFF I'm sure this demo hit you the hardest my man
Another thing I wanna point out is how people are criticizing SEGA for pushing only Sonic games when their recent efforts they've shown that they're reviving old IP's. We're getting an Alex Kidd remake for pete's sake. Not to mention Sakura Wars. We got Streets of Rage 4 earlier this year. Wanted to make another comment to explain this point because my other one was long af.
11:16 - I'm completely floored at the fact that there is any negativity about comparing Balan Wonderland to NiGHTS to the point of anyone going to the creators. But if that's the case, then the same can possibly be said about comparing Bomb Rush Cyberfunk to Jet Set Radio. Both "spiritual successors" only came to pass due to Sega's years of negligence to their IPs. I mean, Tweets out the wazoo about the revival of JSR, and a chance from Sega's Survey on what game we would like to see make a return, and.....Sakura Wars, Point Break, and possibly another IP that's mainly Japanese focused. They even had a chance to bring Virtual-On back. Only to have it like some kind of High School, cyber arena Rockman.EXE ripoff setting. At least Streets of Rage 4 made a come back. But we need those awesome game that made us happy make a return. Alternate looking or not.
*MEGA OOF*
Got a say this Balan character definitely has an interesting design to him/her?
A little creepy looking but still curious on what makes the character ticks?
Who cares if it has Similarities with Nights?! This is PERFECT! i feel like this is perfect for people who really like old sega games, and Nights. It may not be made by them, But I think Nintendo noticed how people really missed games like Nights, and they finally wanted to bring something for that group of people. Sega most likely is never going to make their old games that we so love, Like Billy Hatcher, Nights, Jet set Radio, Monkey balls, and so many more.
Billy Hatcher in the Polar Express: Featuring Knights.

This looks beautiful and i can't wait.
I want to say Sega is very slowly starting to realize that problem with themselves.
Seeing as how PSO2 is exceeding their own expectations in the us.
Streets of rage 4 finally happened and has been getting tons of praise.
They announced an Alex Kidd remaster/reboot.
Along with Yakuza finding success in recent years.
It just sounds to me they're seeing they can be successful with more than just sonic now and as a result they're letting a little more freedom happen slowly.
That's not even touching the atlus side of the company.
Exactly. So many people don’t recognize this since they too busy saying they’re milking Sonic. When they should’ve kept track at what SEGA is doing. Thank you for thinking for yourself and finding what they’re up to instead of being sheep.
I remembered this video and you when the game came out and everyone said how bad it was. You sounded so excited for this game. Will you be making a follow up video?
People are drawing Balan and Nights hanging out and it's SO CUTE!
Would you ever consider doing a video on what Balan could have done right? I've a feeling that it would have something to do with including gameplay and some sort of on-rails flying portions.
12:55 why do i suddenly want a death battle from these two even though we haven't even seen how powerful Balan is?
I was somehow thinking the same thing, and it's because they look so similar. If you ask me though, nights should fight klonoa.
This is the true sequel to the Nights into Dreams series.
oof
glad i found this video. i enjoyed the presentation and i’m looking forward to this game releasing.
Yo. This is really nice! Thanks for highlighting that!
To me theres two groups of people to blame for this honesty (Not that im mad at Balon Company for this beautiful well presented game because Im happy to see them do what they want). And those two are Sega, and Sega fans. For Sega we all know why so i wont get into that with Sega. As for the Sega fans.....
This isnt me saying everyone whos a Sega fan is at fault. Not every fan of Sega is so dont get defensive at me if you read this and get offended somehow. The reason why i say Sega fans are because, they tend to only want anything that just caters to nostalgia and anything Sonic. And when it comes to Sonic there are many Sega fans who want a good Sonic game, however when they think "Good Sonic game" they think any Sonic game that doesnt resemble Sonic 06 or Sonic Boom in ANYWAY whatsoever even in visuals, or any games that came out after Generations and Sonic Mania. With that its especially hard to please the Sega fanbase when the recently popular opinion on Sonic Adventure 2 "Being a bad game" now along with "Sonic is all about speed" (HIGHLY disagree with that notion), "He should not be experimented with because you dont fix what aint broken" and my favorite "Sonic Unleashed is a good game. How did it fail?" That last one sounds like they didnt know when they should have given Sega the appreciation when they released that game in response to Sonic 06's failure as a way of making amends and now they wanna give them the credit they should have gotten before.
Sega fans didnt really help with influencing Sega's decisions positively on what they should give us especially all the times Sega ignored what some of the other Sega fans (The ones im not blaming) wanted from them. Like a Virtua Fighter 6, new Super Monkey Ball, a new Jet Set Radio, home releases of House of the Dead Scarlet Dawn and Virtua Cop 3 would be nice, or a new NiGHTS game. (Thats not even all the games i wanna list). It just feels like within the last decade and a half now its been nothing but fear and a need to please everyone that i feel in these recent Sonic Games in order to desperately obtain Sonic's lost glory. And it was on Sega for rushing Sonic 06 and for how they handled Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric (and partially Nintendo's but okay), but at the same time i dont think its a good excuse to use both of those games to constantly hold Sega and Sonic back. And thats pretty much the whole reason for why i feel some Sega fans are to blame. They just hold Sega and Sonic back with all these unmanaged and unrealistic expectations, and set themselves up for disappointment. And when Sega sees that all they can do is go onto the nostalgia trip.
EDIT: Wanted to fix some spelling errors and wanted to let everyone know that I didnt list all the games I as a Sega fan would like to have.
I also forgot to add in that Sega fans on the Sonic side of the fanbase tend to just be bias towards any Sonic game thats 3D or different. And they would constantly go out their way to search for any issue a Sonic game has even to go as far as to glitch the games out. And when they do find an issue of any kind, they put all their focus on that and ignore any good qualities that Sonic game has just so they can prove whatever agenda they have against any Sonic game that different which adds to the problem with Sega and how they do their business with their games.
@Sea Biscuit Not to mention thats probably why Sonic fans love Sonic Mania. Because Sonic Team and Sega didnt make the game themselves. Notice how most Sonic fan games and demos of fan games have better reception than the official games that arent Sonic Mania.
I can agree on that point, most *Sonic* fans (not necessarily of Sega as a whole) tend to be too trigger-happy in shooting flames at the smallest point that deviates from their "ideal" Sonic game. Be it nostalgia, nitpicking, or simply being a terrible person, most of the Sonic games that got flamed were far more mistreated than they deserved to be.
Yes, Sonic 06 was rushed and a glitch hell, and the story was slightly convoluted and questionable (looking at you, Elise), but can we take some time to appreciate the graphics for that time? And what about the OST that Sonic Team ALWAYS nails down? I never understood why peeps hated so much on Unleashed and the werehog, I loved that, and it was, in fact, the first Sonic game I actually got invested into. SD PS2 version. Now I can understand better where all that hate came from and that it is not quite fair.
You know what I don't like about Nintendo and their titles, *especially* Mario? It is all the same, you play one, you played the others. A tweak here and there but they won't budge much from their place (not counting sports games here), and that is okay to me, valid business strategy. But then you had Sega and Sonic Team bringing different things to the Sonic franchise, even other IPs back then. The moment they started to try and please everyone, things started to go down the drain.
You can't expect to fall in the graces of such a huge fanbase with so many different tastes. Sonic has what? 30 years as a franchise? No many people grew up with a different version of the hedgehog, it is not a solid fanbase. I hope that this pro gamer move is enough to turn some gears at the Sonic Team HQ, they have so much potential being wasted right now. You could have your own fans working on amazing games in a side, and the big leagues outputting big master pieces like Generations. But I rant. Let's hope the future of the blue hedgehog and the company as a whole gets brighter
@Sea Biscuit I meant in a general way. The Mario 2D platformers follow the same formula. Rolling hills, sand themed world, fire and water zone, and the final boss battle at the castle. Same logic for the 3Ds, except the gimmicks are others, like collecting x number of something to unlock the next stage. Donkey Kong, similar side scroll platformers, except maybe for Jungle Beat and the wii note mechanic. Legend of Zelda at least builds up in story across the titles but the mechanics are pretty similar. Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild are the ones standing out. Animal Crossing, as lively as it is, it just a new iteration of the previous games. I can't name every Nintendo franchise from the top of head but these are the ones I played the most/had any interaction with. Again, I'm not against keeping a consistent gameplay and polishing it here and there. I just don't feel thrilled for the next new Super Mario bros. Switch Pro edition Super Deluxe or something
@Sea Biscuit understandable. I think that Super Mario Sunshine was the 3D one that stood out the most from the others to me. And now that I'm thinking, there Luigi Mansion and Paper Mario too. Still, I think the big N is quite tame in regards of remixing their formulas. At least compared to Sega ten years ago. We got big time travel plots, super power of teamwork, fluffy Sonic, Knight Sonic, Arabian Nights, an rpg, color powered aliens and many multidimensional shenanigans. Most people don't like when Sonic Team changes the formula, but I'm like the variety and new things that come. Some more than others, but I try to welcome it the best I can
sega just isn’t competent. there’s a way to listen to all aspects of fans while also making quality products- plenty of companies have figured it out. sega just doesn’t try with sonic because they know young sonic fans will eat any piece of mediocrity thrown at them
Wait, why exactly would anyone be mad that a game is similar to Nights, even if that were the case? Who cares? Like, if you love Nights and Balan was another Nights and Sega actually did drop a Nights 3 remotely around the same time, hey congrats you now have double the Nights. The only way they'd interfere with each other is if the publishers decided they needed to directly compete for some reason in a market where they have little to no competition with _either_ game type and drop them on the same bloody Tuesday.
Nights has had two entries in like 20 years. I think there's plenty of space in there for a spiritual successor or and indie darling to try and fill the void considering half y'all buy a game and swallow it whole over a weekend or two of launch and take to spoiling the whole thing on Twitter because "eh you all had your chance." Balan could literally be Nights 3 and I'd still say anyone complaining was a complete dunce.
I was impressed by the trailer but I had no idea of the pedigree behind it. Thanks for giving some context. The game looks very ambitious for a 3D platformer, but now I see that they have the means to deliver on it.
Okay, I'm subbing because the dude goes in between "The Homie" and "Bloke" seamlessly. I the the British.
Oh no, SONIC Team has to make SONIC games!!!
Jk, I'm looking forward to Balan, looks like fun. Sad that Sega isn't that experimental anymore.
I think the reason is that they're scared because the game could be another failure
@@sonicthehedgehog1606 It was
Now we can get a square enix Sonic jrpg.
I don’t think the Sonic franchise is ever going to do another RPG after Sonic Chronicles: Dark Brotherhood.
there's nothing i love more than balan's design, it feels so perfect
Bro, this is a dope channel, good to see another London boy out here killing it!
Sonic Team: Reports of my demise were greatly premature.
12:16 If Balan Wonderworld somehow winds up not living up to the hype, I wonder if Sega will pull a Mega Man 11 lol
awesome video! I would love for this series to be successful and they continue developing new game!
Nice was waiting for your thoughts
