i liked the video a lot. The application/form side-by-side view really helped to show the purpose and effectiveness of each movement.
Respects from a Tai Chi Mantis practitioner!

Thanks for your comment. Fine that you appreciated this presentation mode.
For us Traditional Kung Fu is a synthesis of elegance and effectiveness.
Without demonstrating this the public can´t understand.
    Greetings form Germany

It's very interesting seeing a form I practice performed by practitioners from another teacher.
Forms are designed to train the body mind and soul, not as combat forms.

It´s the name "Lau family" that stands for
true traditional kung fu all over the
    world.
    the best to you!

Interesting. This was the second form I learned. Our styling is a little different though, more stepping and harder raking off. I like the look of this one more, actually.

My sifu is a student of Grand Master Lam Chun Fai too! But I had to learn through private lessons due to the limited amount of time and the distance I was from him(while in university in Canada), I really wish I had the opportunity to be in a class setting with people my own age like you guys! And now I'm back in Bhutan, no hung gar school here, left to train on my own :'-( ... practicing what I already know is keeping me busy enough anyways ^_^
    -Greetings from the Himalayas!

Hung gar is a traditional style; it has proven its effectivity in many historical
fights (Wong Fei Hung, Lam Sei Wing...)
In the video you see beginners during slow technical training.
Speed you can see in the shown applications.

yeah, that seems to be common amongst kung fu videos on youtube in general
glad you guys posted one, though=)

Due to the nature of private lessons, I never learnt the shorter forms... Went straight from Gung Gee, Fu hok, Sup Ying, 5th brother's 8 diagram pole to double dragon broad swords and by then my time there expired, he didn't even charge me for the last lesson

Who was the artist for the drumming in this video?
    Its addictive.
Oh and the kung fu was great too.

    Hung Gar Kung Fu;
lineage of Grandmaster Lam Chun Fai,
Hung gar is very typical traditional southern Kung fu style

all done by students of the school
    it´s our lion dance drumming,
    slow version for this video

    This version is quite common,
    I think.

Think about your question.. Would it have lasted this long if it could not be adapted in the battlefield?

It was too much at the end of the training.
    At the beginning they practice
    much lower! ;-)))

I take kung fu as well, no offence but I think its a little powerless and too slow. If you just speed up a little, the form would look better and more powerful.

  • @lordtains
    @lordtains Před 14 lety

    lacks strength? lol
Strength is one thing Hung Gar definitely has. Look at all the weighted forms, all the exercises where they have to strike while the other person is pushing against their fist? Hung Gar focuses on muscle strength

im not gonna be offensive here, i enjoy the arts as much as anyone, but the girls in your gym train dressed like that.
    That is awesomely distracting
