    I played violin for several years during school but never really got beyond the basics, could play the notes but not create the music. I have always been a huge classical music fan and have gone to see the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (a world class orchestra) especially when they had world class violin soloists and Jill is as good as any of them. One of the things I love about classical and metal music is how well they go together and all of the possibilities it opens up to what can be done.

      @GlassMoonGaming  Před 2 lety +1

      I definitely agree there! Adding orchestral pieces definitely puts a whole new spin on metal. It's one of the things that drew me to Nightwish as well! I can't wait to listen to more of these guys!

      Agreed! It's a shame so many schools in the US make the music department one of the first to be cut in a budget. So much potential talent going unnoticed!

    FWIW, technically these aren't Unlucky Morpheus covers, but rather covers by "QUADRATUM From Unlucky Morpheus", which is a sub-unit of Unlucky Morpheus that comprises of just these four (out of the six total in UM). They have an entire album of covers with Jill being lead (on violin) called "Loud Playing Workshop" with a total of 9 tracks (including these two), and also have official music videos for a several of the songs on the Unlucky Morpheus main channel (with the most popular looking to be their cover of Yngwie Malmsteen's Far Beyond The Sun).
    As someone alluded to, The Dance of Eternity is probably one of Jill's favorite songs to cover, as she often does it during her live streams (including the mentioned blindfolded playthrough), and if you were to search CZcams for The Dance of Eternity violin covers, the top result will be the QUADRATUM video, and the second result will a cover from 2016... also by Jill.
    Also, for the longest time, Unlucky Morpheus served as just the side project of everyone away from the main bands they were in; just a way for a bunch of friends to jam out playing songs from and about video games and anime.

  • @maximushaughton2404
    @maximushaughton2404 Před 2 lety +3

    Unlucky Morpheus started life as a side project in 2008 between Shiren and Fuki, both not in this video. The idea was to do mixes of songs from a popular Japanese video game, by adding lyrics and adding a metal touch to them. Then some fans wanted to see them live, so they asked some friends to help them play live. They also used this as a recruiting tool, if they got a long after doing a few shows they were asked to join the band, and they slowly added members between 2012 and 2016, Jill was the last to join. They finally went full time in around 2016/17, which is when Shiren had a wrist injury, and he stopped playing in the other bands he was in. All the other members do have other projects they work on/in, but tend to look on Unlucky Morpheus as their main band. The only one that this may not apply to is the bassist, as he is not a metal bassist, but really a jazz musician, but is a full member.
    They are a truly independent band. They do everything themselves, management, produce, release, promotion. So the only way your really going to find out about the band is by stumbling over them, or someone telling you about them. I found them because of Doll$boxx, who Fuki sings for and Yousei Teikoku who Shiren used to play for, so I was recommend Black Pentagram by CZcams. So do not be surprised you've not come across them before. Even the band were suprised that people from outside Japan started to like them and started to follow them.
    Here is another song for you "Tower Of The Blood" czcams.com/video/ubEOfmm0je4/video.html
    By the way if you want to go down a Jill rabbit hole, we'll understand, we've all done it.

      OMG -- thought I recognized that link address. I spliced that together from two videos to get the Jill violin solo Intro back into it. I think the splice might be what has saving the link from being nuked by Napalm. (LOL , wasn't sure about the link so I clicked on it, and and saw it was mine. After it started, I went full-screen, leaned my chair back, and watched the whole vid before I came back and wrote this reply 😆 )

      @@GlassMoonGaming I'm a little late to this video. I'm glad you Reacted to this one. I'm for sure one of the ones who sent you a link. Folks have left Awesome info on UM, and Quadratum, and on Jill! Jill has a channel, and she occasionally does live streams playing her parts along with UM recordings - and also playing SERIOUS classical violin pieces (When she was doing classical violin she was a Paganini specialist, so she can play Anything). Fuki has numerous side projects, several of them collabing with Jill. She has done vocals for over 70 bands and is highly regarded in Japan. Fuki also has a side-gig where she collabs with Gacharic Spin in a sort of funky Super Group called Doll$Boxx (pr Dolls). Here's a starter link to Doll$Boxx - Take My Chance - where they poke fun and make a statement about female bands having to deal with the Kawaii/Idol culture in Japan czcams.com/video/mu2z4Uf9Tgc/video.html .

    Check out more of Jill's violin covers. She's done Yngwie Malmsteen's "Far Beyond The Sun", Steve Vai's "For The Love Of God", & Racer X's "Technical Difficulties". Also with another group, she did covers of "Bloody Tears" & "Vampire Killer" from Castlevania (those will be on Tetsuya Fuzuki's channel).
    Other songs from Unlucky Morpheus that you should check out are "Black Pentagram", "Knight Of Sword", "Tower Of Blood", "Dignity Of Spirit", "Vampir/Opfer", Unending Sorceress", "Kurogane Ou", "Taka Yashihime", "KIZASI".... hell, check out everything you can find from them.

    Another reaction channel talked about who they were take first if there was a fantasy draft to put together a super band. I replied that Jill would be my first pick, and I wouldn't hesitate or think twice. She's highly skilled and graduated from the most prestigious music school in Japan. She always looks cute and she always appears to be comfortable in when she's front and center.
    Speaking of Jill, she was part of a side group that was apparently called The Doramatic Orchestra; I don't know what that means. There are two covers they did that I want to bring to your attention. They're covers of Castlevania's two most iconic songs, "Vampire Killer" and "Bloody Tears." It's Jill, a guitarist called Kaede, and a pianist/keyboardist called REO. I think "Bloody Tears" is a little better than the other song, but both are worth watching if you're a Castlevania fan like me.

    Considering how you like both Dream Theater and Babymetal, I'm surprised that you do not seem to have reacted to _Tales of the Destinies_ yet. It's a Babymetal tribute to Dream Theater in general, and The Dance of Eternity in particular. It has only been performed live once (at the Tokyo Dome in 2016) but if you can find a video of that, it would sure be a reaction worth seeing 🙂

      It's definitely on my list. I was going to do it a few weeks ago (along with The One) but then I got a hold of the "everything you need to know" video, and wanted to check that first. After that, I decided I needed to go back to their roots to really understand everything, so I have to put that off a little while. Have no fear, I'm like SUPER psyched to get to that one! Thanks!
