- In this video, we will show you how to remove and clean the hybrid high-voltage battery air filter in the 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.

The air filter is located underneath the back seat. You have to inspect the air intake periodically. If it is very dusty or you get the warning message on the main display saying that “Maintenance is required for Traction Battery Cooling Parts” you need to clean the air intake and the filter underneath.
If the air intake and the filter are clogged this will affect the cooling of the hybrid battery. Charging and discharging will be limited, the distance that the vehicle can travel on a hybrid battery will reduce and your fuel economy will be reduced as well. Because of this, it is very important to check it regularly and keep it clean.

Don’t vacuum the filter on the backside like he did. That drives the dirt deeper into the filter

You can shake it, you will see dust come off , it did for me anyways
He didnt vacuum from the backside... The side that was facing down before he pulled off the filter material is the side that faces out and catches the dust. He clearly flipped it over before he vacuumed.
He vacuumed both sides of the filter. He even says “vacuum both sides”.
FYI, I've done the same on my toyota yaris 2021 if someone is looking at how to do it even thought its simple

How often or mileage should it be cleaned?
I would check/clean it at least once per year. If you have pets you should do it more often.
I have a Rav4 Prime for some reason the screw keeps on turning and won't unscrew.
It feels like it's stripped which is impossible cause I just try to unscrew it for the first time.
I believe it is designed this way. If you can't unscrew it, simply pull the cover off together with the screw.
Guys you just have to use some common sense with common tools and a little bit of force to pry the screw off...
Just change the busted up thing 😂😂 $30k car and we out here vacuuming a $15 filter...
Especially since the really fine dust probably isn’t removed by vacuuming and is still reducing air flow somewhat. The battery is horrendously expensive so everything that extends its life is very important.

When I try to unscrew the screw it keeps spinning and won’t come out. Any idea? Do you know part number for screw clip?
Try not to apply a lot of pressure on the screw when you unscrew it. It should come out.
@@MorozovAutomotive I have tried light pressure, heavy pressure, using pry tool while spinning. Nothing. So I was gonna remove bench seat and remove it that way

Just depends how dirty the inside of your car gets! I would check it yearly!
Pretty sure it's 10,000 unless you do a lot of idling and short distance driving, then it's 5,000
Check the periodic maintenance section of your owners manual so you can be exact.
