I bought mine a day before a huge snow storm. Drove through the snow like it was nothing. Love my jeep

does it seem like a pretty reliable car? looking to buy, comparing it to the new cherokee as well. Current 2000 cherokee owner

Justus Townsend I’m looking to buy this car also. This would be my first Jeep. I don’t know if I want a Wrangler or one of these SUV family type jeeps. The family type Jeep seems more reliable to me and has more features than the Wrangler so I might go with it

Justus Townsend if you got money to get the Cherokee I say go for the Cherokee. But so far I love the compass

dreamergirlbaby the wrangler is my dream car if you have the money for that then go for it. But I have no complaints for the Compass

dreamergirlbaby frankly I could not afford the wrangler because they start in the $30,000 and their gas mileage is horrible. Plus I don’t know how they fare up against cold weather

Nice review! The new Compass seems like a huge improvement over the previous generation model! I am really liking the exterior styling, too!
Also, I am a huge fan of Chrysler's UCONNECT system. I tested it in quite a few new Fiat products and it really impressed me. I cannot wait until I can review this vehicle someday, too. Keep up the great work, man! 👍

I never really heard of UConnect until I first went to check out the Compass, you don't really hear too much about it. I think the one we most commonly hear about is Ford MyTouch and then Mazda's commander wheel system. UConnect is surprisingly good though! The screen on the 8.4 s super responsive too, it even beat out a few flagship smartphones in terms of touch response. Really the only other systems I've had any experience with are the Toyota system which I used in a long term Corolla rental (a pre-refresh but current generation Corolla), and maybe it wasn't their premium system, but at best I found it reliable and utilitarian, but I didn't find it to be all that intuitive or engaging. I also briefly drove a Honda CR-V, and it had the turn cameras and everything, but I found the system forgettable (I don't rememeber much about it), I also drove a mustang for a weekend, and for whatever reason, it's just a tiny screen in there (maybe because it was a convertible), so I don't know if that was full blown MyTouch on a smaller screen, if so it was usable but nothing to write home about.
Besides the highly visible, and touch responsive screen, I find UConnect to be pretty intuitive. I like the tabs at the bottom that take you to the main sections (climate, media, nav, etc). I like that you don't really have to drill down too deep to change any particular setting. I like the mini nav window you can activate in the media sections. I like the redundancy of physical buttons for some of the primary functions including climate, volume, radio tuning/track selection, etc.
It may seem like a small thing, but I also like that there are physical mute and screen off buttons so you don't have to turn the system off if you just want a moment silence or need to turn the screen off. I certainly wished at times that some of my previous vehicle audio systems had mute buttons. Another interesting feature (which may be the norm, not having much experience) is that if you turn the volume down or mute your media, responses to voice commands, phone calls, and nav instructions (unless you disable them) are played at a regular audible volume.
I like that you have the option on using smartphone based navigation (Android Auto/Carplay) or the built in nav. Voice commands work really well if you understand how to formulate the questions properly. I tend to use Android nav during times where traffic can be an issue or where I don't know the street address or can't quickly pinpoint it on the map so I just plain language search (as in "take me to the kebab on yonge st", google is great for that). Android nav is also good for getting info on the go, like I was hungry, so I asked "is the Pie Commission open?" and it replied "it is closed now, but is open tomorrow from...". The onboard nav is cool though because when you are approaching a navigation point, the instruction is duplicated in the instrument stack screen.
The only complaint that I have really is that my media player of choice Poweramp has not made their app compatible with Android Auto yet, and that's not a Uconnect issue, that's Poweramp dragging their feet. There was one instance where the system froze up and nothing worked soon after I got it, but I just turned off the car for a minute and I guess it reset. Hasn't happened again yet, but I'm accustomed to advanced computer applications having occasional bugs.

TdotSoul, I have to agree with you. The UCONNECT infotainment system is a pretty neat system. I was able to test it inside of the Fiat 500, the Fiat 500L, and the Chrysler 300. It was both very responsive and offers crisp/vibrant displays. I hope you enjoy your new Compass.

I recently purchased a 2018 compass Trailhawk. I thought it would be a great looking car with some more aggressive looking tires on it. Being trail rated and all I thought an all terrain tire would make it look more like a jeep should. After trying to find an all terrain tire for it I came to the conclusion that "trail rated" simply means you get a shiny thing stuck on the fender. I promise to do everything I can to help people from making the same stupid mistake I did by even considering a compass.
Thanks for the only car I ever purchased that with 1500 miles I wish I never got it. GREAT ENGINEERING!!!!

Compass Trailhawk does NOT have a locking rear differential. The exhaust is not dual, it has dual tips. Otherwise, nice review.

You want them, you pay for them. I'm glad you aren't forced to pay 600 whatever dollars extra to get something you won't be seeing much. Wish a lot of stuff on cars was optional too. I really don't need two TV's in my car. I don't even need one. I would like a CD player though and a way to put my own Stereo in. Not options anymore. I am not that lazy I can't put a key in the hatch to open it. Or the doors. I wish I didn't have to pay for electrical sockets and USB ports everywhere either. I leave my microwave in my kitchen and don't need to charge my phone every hour.

You actually do not need to lock the doors before the remote start. The remote start will automatically lock the doors.

I just bought the 2018 compass limited. I'd like to see a more detailed video on the left steering wheel controls and options. I had to search on line to find out how to get to the trip odometer. The owners manual doesn't give any information on it. Nor does the owners manual cover the other options for center screen set up.

hey there ! I am looking to buy literally this same exact car this Sunday ! this is the first jeep/car I have personally owned, my parents are big jeep people and own some trail hawks.... I have read a bunch of reviews on the car and some things have popped up that the engine is noisy, the acceleration is slow.. I was wondering what your thoughts are on this, and whether as a first car this is the best way to go ?

Just tested the 170 horsepower Jeep Compas Limited 2018 and i liked the car except two things. I have tested in Europe so the ones sold in Europe might have a slighly different setup. Ok i did not like the suspension. Waaay too hard for my taste. I would expect that a car that is sold here for 55 grands would have a much more comfordable suspension. I mean my 20 year old Seat is better absorbing bumpy roads. The second thing is the motor power. This was very disapointing. I had to stepdown the acceleration quite much just to be able to overtake another car on the highway at speed 74mph and the motor sounded like exhausted. This two things are killers. The rest of the car is nice except one more thing. They offer just black and skygrey/black interor color. That's not a lot.

Avoid the Jeep Compass! After 12,000 miles I can say the manual transmission is a joke! it is horrible! The vehicle is just awful off road, clearly never meant to leave the pavement. The 2.4 is painstakingly slow (i clocked a 9.1 second 0-60). My first Jeep and very likely my last. I am very disappointed in this car and I would not recommend this car.
