How Fast Are Capped 2G Speeds? LTE vs 3G vs 2G Data Speed Test!

  • Many plans include unlimited 2G data after your high speed allotment. Ever wonder how fast 2G speeds actually are? In this video I compare LTE vs 3G vs 2G cellular data speeds.
    ⬇︎SHOW MORE⬇︎
    Fun facts: This video was originally filmed in 2016 for RingPlus. They were interested in testing how the different data speed caps impacted network performance and usability for various tasks such as web browsing, video streaming, and music streaming.
    They were able to change the data speed cap of my plan on the back end so I could test the performance. This video took multiple days to shoot, edit, and compile the results. Hopefully it wasn't too weird hearing 2016 Stetson end the video :)
    And special thank you to RingPlus for making this video possible. 🙏🏻

      I would say yes 2G is unusable and heck 3G is barely usable for the mainstream user as people are always on Facebook, Tik Tok, CZcams Snapchat and ect just anything that has a autoplay feature/content enable on, I say 3g is only usable for chatting, email and streaming music that's it not social media site/app

    If only I didn't love HBOGO and now HBO MAX, I'd go down to the mid tier unlimited AT&T post paid plan. I never burn 100GB of data in a month. I love my Unlimited Elite plan, but 80 per month (not including my device payment and insurance) is kind of steep. I'm glad I have an autopay discount and a signature plan doscount.

    • @SINCITYJ
      @SINCITYJ Před 4 lety +1

      Yes exact same situation here although I'm not on a device payment plan anymore because I paid off my note 9 really quick and skipped the note 10 although I'm gonna soon have the note 20 to finally have a 5g phone and also I use Verizon get more unlimited plan with the same exact phone already payed off and yes I'll be getting the note 20 on Verizon as well. I usually put down more than half on my devices to start then pay them off within months. It's honestly the best way to go if you can swing it although everybody has a different situation. I'm just not willing to pay less anymore for low quality service. Did T-Mobile years ago and regardless of what others say it isn't equal or above AT&T and Verizon even today in any aspect. Those fast speeds and decent call quality last a few miles and that's it. In a mall or building T-Mobile is non existent. Forget about going on long road trips with T-Mobile. Hopefully pricing gets much better for the big 2 carriers but we'll see.

  • @aaadventures543

    Also please keep in mind that the carrier makes a lot of different. For example, a reliable AT&T connection with 10mbps is much faster then a sprint 50mbps. A sprint unlimited LTE is completely useless, your better off going with a capped 8gb LTE from at&t because you can actually USE it.

    Ah... I really missed 2G speed as most of the places provides 4G and 5G nowadays. But most telcos provide 512kbps unlimited once hit FUP limit of 50GB-60GB for their so called "unlimited 3mbps" or "unlimited 6mbps". 512kbps is barely minimum to stream 360p videos and stream music at high quality at 256kbps AAC bitrate. But I heard that the quota based high speed 4G/5G data either cut off the entire internet or just slow down to 256kbps or 512kbps nowadays compared to back in the day where they provides 64kbps or 128kbps when hit certain limit of quota. Some just cut off the internet when hit the quota and need to top up the data to continue using.

  • @abletotalautocare9250

    T-Mobile says 2G ( 256k) but it's even near 1G most of the time around 10-12k up or down. I dumped T-Mo long time ago!

      The only result that may change is the full speed LTE data. If anything, that would load the content faster. The other results were capped at specific speeds, so there should be no difference in performance even with better coverage.

      Stetson Doggett, That’s what I thought. Though I do notice at least on Verizon in my northern Illinois area. Sometimes your data speed isn’t consistent when you have 1-2 bars but for the most part it’s usable.
