    KERMES!!! None of the others come close to the thrilling passion in her voice! Obviously all four are brilliant musicians, and I love Ciofi (especially in the Classical and later Galante repertoire in which she excels), but for me Kermes gives the most exciting and virtuosic performance here.

  • @fan2jnrc
    @fan2jnrc Před 10 lety +8

    Definitively Kermes. Her voice is just dazzling, flawless, and she's the one, among the four, who really seems to understand and to "live" what she's singing. It's strange, I hear this, I would think : "Of course there can not be the most little doubt, everybody will say 'Kermes', it's obvious..." And I see it's not the case... (On the other hand, Ciofi's da capo is just perfect, it's true...)

  • @rigsf5969
    @rigsf5969 Před 5 lety +2

    Just my opinion of course, but I think Ms. Kermes does the best job. The reason being she combines technique with interpretation in a way that the others don't quite match. Her voice also has a certain "bite" which suits this piece. As to Ms. Lezhneva, beautiful voice and incredible technique (I think she sings the fastest version), but at times, that seems to be all there is, incredible technique. Which again I'll admit, at times is enough for me (think Dame Sutherland). Again, just my opinion.

If it were a horse race I would say it's a photo finish, but it isn't a horse race; and for me there are no losers! In preference from THIS video, I'd have to say Sandrine takes overall first, with Kermes taking in second. She had a very captivating interpretation. Ciofi sounded nice, but it didn't grab my attention. It just sounded like a lot of melismas, but in the B section, her legato lining was nice and beautiful. Roschmann did a lovely job but whoever was directing the ensemble dragged it so much!

Chacune habite la musique à sa manière et façonne son interprétation par son caractère génétique et la conduite de son chant. Du très grand art. C'est merveilleux. I like Ciofi's ornamentation in the da capo repeat. Her voice has a somewhat hooded quality, through. I think Kermes sings with panache, and benefits from Marcon's accompaniment. Piau suffers a bit from Alessandrini's rather conservative approach, but you're right, Röschmann's is just too slow, leaden.

    With these beautiful performances, I would include the slower performance by Magda Kalmar, for beauty of sound. Great music itself expresses so much that there is little room for interpretation and emotion without distortion. But it is usually instrumental soloists, not singers, who occasionally distort music by squirming and grimacing interpretation, which is sometimes expected by audiences who want a spectacle.

    There is a suspension in her high notes that's somewhat different from most sopranos. I will say that she is the one that succeeds the most (in my opinion) in conveying the textual meaning: "In the wrath of thy most righteous anger, you from heaven make me mighty. Since you can punish me when guilty, my very crime shows you as kindly."
