When we bought this engine and transmission out of another mci9 it never occurred to me the Allison 740 would be different. Several lost hours of labor on this job removing and installing the engine cradle and extra time. - Auta a dopravní prostředky

We all make mistakes. A real man owns it and makes it right.
How easy it would have been to simply not even publish this example of a pitfall that has snared many a great mechanic at some point in a working career. But Scott keeps everything transparent and shows his audience that he has real integrity in his business and life. 👍🙌 Thumbs up and a round of applause.
ABSOULUTELY!
“It’s all my fault.” Words you never hear anymore. Integrity really means something when it costs money. Kudos, Scott! Making a mistake is human. Making it right is the mark of character.
@@billmoran3812 Scott has proven himself to be an honorable, honest person. This unfortunate mistake again proves beyond the shadow of a doubt the level of his integrity. A large number of shops would do everything they could to point the finger elsewhere or try to weasel out of the responsibility. Truth ✅️.
Yes people need more of that.
I made a mistake once. Keep the great videos coming ! Me and the guys in cell block 4 get a real kick out of them !
Yea it happens once in a while, Learn from the First one. And don't do it again. Stay strong and stay safe. Aloha
My wife thinks otherwise 😂
Sounds like you had company when you made that life changing mistake!
You need to get one those load levelers for your hoist. They’re actually cheap, and make adjusting the level on a motor or other heavy load real easy. Just turn the crank and adjust the balance on your load. They can be a godsend for a job like this.
I'm not sure how they would work on these engines but I have found that on cars or trucks for me personally I found them to be of very little help.
A shop crane would really help and a leveler has many things it helps with !
Oh wow! I was wondering when this MC-9 was going to get back going. Hey, mistakes happen. We fix them up when and if we can and then we keep on going. Anticipating to see the end result of this project. I commend the owner of this bus for bringing it back to life the proper way and also to the Bus Grease Monkeys for taking on the job to fix it right. Take care everyone and always strive to do the right thing.
If you work on equipment much, it will happen. I have had to go redo a day's work because of similar oversights. But because you show this to everyone, we all learn from it. I have been told that if you learn, it wasn't a mistake, it's a learning experience.
That's the first MC9 I've seen with an electronic shift so I can certainly see how the difference in trans could be missed. Sorry y'all had to go through all that.
Where is your transmission jack and ratchet straps...!??? Scott, I thought you had one in the shop. You all are working too hard.
Great swap. The end is near for the bus build.🤩🤩🤩
Even the Master is allowed a mistake every now and then. The true master admits when they are wrong. Kudos scott.
Lucky you, for having air conditioning to do that job. I hope to see your subs to 200K before long.
A lesson learned, for sure: I think you need another HTB-741 or HTB-748 for this.
I continue wishing you luck getting this properly restored!
Dang…. Definitely something to keep in mind on these 740’s! On the bright side, fantastic video!
Pretty sure that’s a one time mistake you learn from to never repeat.
Another episode of 'We Like It Nice So We Do It Twice' ..the story of Life
I love the smoking in the rear sign
I have worked on motor coaches for 45+ years and never seen an electronic shift version of an ht740. Wow.
Stylish black mechanics overalls with the Grease Monkey logo would save a fortune in Levis.
Well Scott at least you’re the kind of person that will fix an unfortunate mistake like that. Some shops would not eat the labor on that they would have some fine print not responsible.
oh no! you must be kicking yourself how did you miss that? because you guys are SO thorough
Nice work Scott ,
Those meals looked so good it was the first AD I didn't fast forward through!
Thank you Mr Crosby for answered me Some .youtuber are not always answering me so I appreciate.Have a good day.
cool clip, keep them coming
Thanks for the video.
The MC-9 was a legendary workhorse coach.
The fact it was brought back in an updated form as the MC-12 says a lot.
Day s Work gone ... But you didn't fudge anything you put it back the way it should go❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
Looks like a military style socket for the transmission shifter. I would have never guessed Mci9 could have come with a electronic transmission.
AKA "Cannon Plug"
Ooops... It'll be back in soon. A little less relaxing weekend than planned but it'll be good. Mistakes are what we all make occasionally. As long as we learn from them it's all good.
Been there done that, I always try to look at all the stuff now.
Hi Mr Crosby ,my name is Richard ,I have been a motor coach operator for 20 plus years,.I saw the beginning of that video when you pulling out the power train of that mci, when I was working for my bus company I notice that the head mecanic when he have to remove the power train he was using a steel craddle extension atttached to the main craddle ,so all he have to do, is pull the power train from the inside of the bus.do the repair he have to do and pushed back inside when the job done.I think he fabricated himself the extension craddle .QUESTION, do you think it would be useful for you?Thank you for you,re answer,Keep the good work Jonathan and you.
No it would make it harder on this job. They don’t just slide out it has to be lifted to clear the end of the bus. Plus transporting it back to the shop from the bus it would not work. Bus outside and we get to do engine work inside air conditioned shop
Geez. I can't believe how many people responding here have made mistakes. 😉
Big job. Easy to forget something.
Hey….super clean that thing while you got it out😊
$175 hr how many hours of cleaning would you like
@@BusGreaseMonkey oooh….about a half hour😀
I have that same electronic shifter.
If engine is seized you end up taking the engine apart and leave the crankshaft on the transmission instead.
Was waiting for torque converter to slide out with the angle trans was at. 🙀🙉🙈💥
The bad days sure make the good days look better!
I had a '74 Grand Prix and lost transmition oil. They delivered a Cadillac tranny ,I was about to install it when I received a frantic phone call
Great vid ,did you replace the rear main seal once you split it ?
It’s a really good coach it’s just got a bad engine 😂
I’ve probably asked this question before but every engine I pull and rebuild or just swap out I always pressure wash it. I was wondering why you don’t do this? It’s much easier and more satisfying to work on a clean engine at least for me. I’m old and I take every possible shortcut to make my job simpler.
We pressure washed the shit out of that. It was 100% black and greasy everywhere.
Factor is loaded with Sodium, not for me
What kind of battery powered impact wrench are you using? I’d like to get myself something like that.
Was the original transmission a HT-741 or a HT-740, the 741 is the atec variant. HT-740 transmissions can have the electronic push button shifter without being an atec transmission and it is really not a big deal converting a mechanical ahifter HT-740 to the push button shift. The big difference it atec vs non atec, its really not a big deal to convert a HT-740 into an HT-741.
Something often overlooked is torque converter ratio, they are available in 4 or 5 different ratios so you can tailor the transmission to the application better. The HT-750 is the 5 speed variant of the HT-740.
didn't the one with the electronic shift have bad gears?
Does the owner have to have a cdl with passenger endorsement to buy a bus with all the seats in it?
That sucks...human's do make mistake's, dont beat yourself up about it too much..sh*t happens..
One of those times when you are thinking this is going too good the. Murphy’s law kicks in. Many you tubers wouldn’t have admitted or shown the mistake
Couldn't the electronics be fitted onto the the mechanically controlled transmission?
No
I bet you're not ever going to make that mistake again. would it have been easier if you had caught it in time to have split the engine from the transmission in the bus?
Do Not Loctite flex plate bolts
Good to know.
WHY DO YOU NOT CLEAN THAT REPLACEMENT ENG AND BOX
We pressure washed the crap out of it. It was 100% black prior
@@BusGreaseMonkey When I hit the lottery, I will send y'all a HOT water pressure washer...makes short work of that grease ; )
@@deanh7190and some cement to build a wash deck and grease trap . 😅

Its all my fault!!! lol.....oh well pain in the ass so fun!... lol....
