    It’s an absolute clusterf*ck of a film.

  • @VadiaRotor
    @VadiaRotor Před 10 měsíci +3

    It's a very good film! (because a film is primarily a picture, the meaning is complimentary). It has wonderful cinematography, each shot is excellently composed and full of style. And the flamboyance of the costumes and production design, was just to emphasize the fairy-taleness, because this film's plot is a fairy tale. It is a misunderstood cinematography masterpiece. People expected it to be something else, which it was not, so they misunderstood it.

    • @VadiaRotor
      @VadiaRotor Před 10 měsíci +1

      firstly cinema was mute, and it was about pictures, not words (although I wouldn't say all the dialogue in this movie is good, some is unnecessary, here are too many filler dialog scenes), but the point is, if you watch this film mute, and on the 0.75 speed, you will be able to concentrate on its picture, and appreciate the cinematography better. You'll see all shots in it are excellent, and some are genious.

    • @langleymneely
      @langleymneely Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@VadiaRotorThat can work… for a silent film. This was not that.

    • @VadiaRotor
      @VadiaRotor Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@langleymneely it can work with any film, any film can be watched mute (because film as an artform has its roots in silent cinema, and relies on visual storytelling: show, don't tell). And TV series can be listened without looking at the picture (because the roots of TV shows come from radio), so good visuals in them are secondary, they rely on story being told in dialogue.

    Just to correct you on something; you said that the movie wasn't a box office bomb, but it was.
    Production budget = $78 million
    Worldwide box-office = $179 million
    You ought to realise that the production budget only accounts for the money that the studio spend on pre-production, filming and post-production. It does not include the money spent on distribution and marketing (which would have been around a further $80 million). Also, 100% of the box office takings do not go to the studio. Cinemas also take their cut of the box-office receipts.
    The general rule of thumb is that a movie needs to make between x2.5 and x3 its production budget in order to breakeven.
