Independent volume and gain control for all three channels has arrived in the new 5150III® 50-watt EL34 head.
In the video below, guitarist Frankie Lindia demonstrates each of the head’s three channels, showcasing both dry and wet tones (with pedals through the effects loop).
First up is channel one, aka the green channel, featuring transparent and sparkly cleans. With the new, convenient, dual concentric gain and volume, you can dial in a smooth and clean channel one, with no worries about channel two being affected. Lower the outer gain knob and hike up the volume to have a clean that would keep even grandma happy.
Next up is channel two, our tried, true and beloved blue channel with an added EL34 kick. Lindia demonstrates this channel with low gain, high gain for more saturation and then closes out this channel with effects engaged at a mid-gain.
Finally, Lindia explores channel three, the red channel, also through low gain, high gain and with effects loop. Even on a low gain setting, channel three has more kahunas than any other amp on the market that's maxed out.

Dude was using all his will power to avoid playing Ain't Talking 'bout Love.
2:03 lmao poor guy
Metal Gear?!
In EVH’s channel! Go figure...
You talking about the guitar player on this video, or MTV in 1987?
Close, but no nut
Those guitars and amp sound really good. Eddie was a musical genius.
kind of cool to actually see someone use and endorse something that actually sounds like him without 1000000 modifications.
Does anyone else just come back to watch this video? Seriously I love this amp( I own one) but this guys a great player and I just love the combination of how he plays( because you have to realize a part of what makes this tone sound so great is the player) and this guitar and amp.
Yeah I've watched this like 20 times, learned a 2 or 3 or the riffs and boy are they tastyyy
Ok- no one else is allowed to do demos except for this guy. No talking, just tones. This was awesome. Let this guy just explore and get what he can out of whatever. Let US decide if we like what we hear. Great demo; just do it all, man! Demo EVERYTHING
Well,I usually don't do this, but I'll leave a "similar" video of mine,I don't have the same quality, but I like to pass all information I can,and without talking too. This video is a comparison between 2 plugins: "Mark III by Vadim Taranov" (free plugin) and "Mark III & Mark IV - Amplitube 3" showing many possibilities with the free one,and it can awesome like the paid one. I have another video like this, but about Soldano SLO 100 too :)

“INDEPENDENT VOLUME/GAIN CONTROL”
Amen
Like on every other amp but using separate pots instead of a stacked dual gang one? Or am I missing the point (srs)?
I have owned the 5150 Peavey and the early 50w Fender version of this amp. I always figured Eddie thought the pain in the ass setup was the way it should be. I bought and sold 3 different ones with the set up and it was never because of the controls that I sold it.
Of course this new control setup is way better.
I’ve owned many amps over the years and this is by far my favorite. I am consistently impressed and contented with its versatility and absolute kick-ass tones. Time and time again I find myself saying “dude, this amplifier is the absolute shit.”
A lot of people are saying this clip sounds fizzy to them and I think we all need to take into consideration what we are listening through. I changed from an LG little stereo to some M Audio monitors and it made a huge difference. This doesn't sound fizzy at all through the monitors. Just something I thought I would throw out there. Keep rockin' everyone!
Right on. Christopher!
Christopher Lyons, Yepper. I thought it sounded less than stellar, then I listened to it with headphones instead of a tiny phone speaker. . . . Night & day.
Sounded great to me!
Plus if thats the matching 2-12" cab its fairly new too and the new Celestion speakers take a while to break in properly,I know I have one right here. The G12H-Anniversary speakers are bright too which might be a little of the fizz.
It is upper mid heavy so on anything that is all upper mids like a phone speaker I bet it does sound awful. It is slightly fizzy but the kind of agressive fizzyness that I personally like compared to the top fizz with no upper mid bite of something like a dual rec. Not sure what the speakers are in the cabs, I thought they were based on the G12M-25s but if they are based on G12H-30s, then they tend to need breakin and can be fizzy when miced right on the dust cap.
Who's listening to any audio demos on a phone speaker LOL
Nice to see a demo with no talking and the person can actually play the guitar. There’s no tweaking my 90’s 5150 to compete with this so it’s time to get my amp a brother.
Looks like you can rule the world with this amp🤘👌
Is anyone gonna talk about how sick that riff in the intro was?
The whole video was sick.....zakk wylde riffs sound fucking brutal thru these amps
Sounds like copyright free 5150
This is how an amp demo should be done. Awesome guitarist great sounding amp.
Got this amp about 2 months ago now, by far the best amp I have used, it’s extremely versatile from playing metal to grunge. By far best amp ever
Great sounding amp, made better by an amazing player!!! Love that the gain and volume have their own separate dials for the Blue\Green channels, respectfully. That is the only complaint I have with my OG 5150 III
Exactly, Matthew. I think it sounds great. It's all in how you dial it in. and there is always inherent compression on these YT clips that don't do the gear justice. I've owned and gigged with all EVH amps over the past 25 years. My current rig is the 5150 III 100 watt head with 4x12 cabinet. I play in a band with a horn player covering 60's - current music and I can dial in any tone I want. I even have a modded 50 watt with the independent gain/volume on channels 1/2. Every amp can't be for everyone, but I will always take these amps over anything else out there. But that's just me and what I like!
One of the best guitar related product demos I've seen.
I know it's not about looks, but that looks fucking beautiful in gold
That clean sound at the very beginning reminds me of led Zeppelin tones form the records. ☺
funny you say that , i thought teh same
Very Very GOOD demo! Thank you for not having all kinds of noise from other instruments in background...
I fell in love with your last 50 watt head now i just found something new👌
Awesome tones, and I love the fact that we have a great guitar player doing the demo. Too often these days, it seems like the guys doing the demos don't do the gear justice (the 90s tried to ruin guitar players... too many guys that learned to play in that era had some serious catching up to do once it was over LOL).
You got that right. They do a demo with the best sounding amp, and then they sit there and strum Cowboy Chords
instead of doing ripping Van Halen, Jimmy Page, Angus Young Solos....They can't play for shit and do an Injustice to the amps.
Yep ...... No tone exploration just .....will it chug riffs
This amp RULES!!! Thank you EVH Gear!!!
Johnny Beane YES!
Rock on Michael!!!
Johnny Beane I hope they do a mini and or combo version of this!! 🎼
1970borntorun That would be cool too!
Tony Powell: you are the typical idiot with this comment.
Whoa! Who'da thought Jeff Spicoli was such a wicked player! Dude.
lol just what I thought.... Where is Mr Hand
Yep, when he hired Van Halen to play his birthday party using the money he got for rescuing Brooke, he got lessons from Eddie for uno nickelo.
NO DICE!
I have a 5150 50 watt and I find I need to turn to presence waaaaaay down to not make it fizzy. Then I use an overdrive to help with the clarity. I also get rid of the JJ 12ax7s and put a tung sol into V1 followed by a JJ 803S to help tame the harsh high end in V2. I’ve also found it’s particular about overdrives. I found the Maxon OD808 gave a harsh fizz in the high end, the Precision Drive was too harsh and thin, but the Airis Savage Drive is fantastic with it.
nice cleans 😍, and the OD tones...damn...i can play djent, death, heavy and thrash metal all the day!!!
Its far more versatile than that nerd.
I enjoyed listening to this guy play.
YEAY FOR YOU
Franky is an amazing player. This gear is awesome , top shelf stuff. But he’d sound great though any rig. Shredder.
Frankie :-)
I've watched this video like two times a day for the last month. Can't wait till I take it home sometime later in the year!
amp sounds fantastic. the playing doesn't hurt either!
this is an amazing demo, great playing, cool sounding amp!
WOW! Beautiful amp, amazing tone, great playing :)
killer chops and fabulous hair. I hate this guy.
Lol me too
Nah
Practice hard and get a wig !
@@rickleblanc8900 lol
@@rickleblanc8900 But practicing IS hard!
That sounds so unbelievably radical!
yeah! that sounds killer no doubt 👾👾👾 ultimate OD tones ++ sparkling cleans for days 🔥
I agree with one viewer who commented on fizzy distorted sound, if you are listening through tiny speakers its gonna sound fizzy. Unbelievable guitar player. Love to hear from someone who owns one to comment on actual sound.....
Watching this video just cost me 1700$ .
Rich Fleming I think it’s about to cost me the same 😏
@Brandon Rogers the cab adds onto it if you want the matching one, plus tax n shipping
@Brandon Rogers yeah, pretty ridiculous. I got it for a good trade and price though. I got both the amp and matching 2x12 from my buddy for $700 plus I traded him a peavey 6505mh I never use.
Take my money again this way better than the 6l6 version
Yes, don't understand why so many think EL34 valves sound muddy. They have a crispy punch at the high-mid range that, with some presence, sounds unbelievably pleasant. Like having a 6505 and a JCM800 in the same amp.
Boy... Try the 6534+ :)
@@jmcsquared18 I love this EL34 version. It is one mean sounding amp. Mine does not sound muddy at all.
@@eeeehmkay1722 Wrong !!!!!!!!!!!!!
@tim34 $1000 is hella expensive
I have the 6l6 version and now I want this one . Sounds warm and just what I like
that's how you do a demo
This guy should demo every metal amp
That dude fricken shreds!!!
Still love everything evh issues I still wanna buy this amplifier thumbs 👍 up!!!
AWESOME HEAD, Sure wish it came in white to match My 2 212 cabinets , also wish the on/ off switches were on the front, Love the EVH gear , Such great tones with killer volume, Just bought a wolfgang special a few weeks ago, Very hard to put in down, EVH is very good equipment.
great clean tones for sure
Killer sound !!! Killer demo !!! Killer amp !!!
I was thinking about maybe someday investing in this... after watching that demo, I don't even feel worthy lol that guy is an incredible guitarist
Played one yesterday loved it
I really enjoy this fellow. It will certainly be interesting to watch him develop, and I have great hopes for him. Got all kinds of chops, and he seems to effortlessly bounce from something musical to that frantic sounding thing. Somewhere in the middle might be the real him.
Spicoli!? Fast Times!! \,,,/ great toneage!!
I think all of the people saying it sounds fizzy are forgetting that they're listening to EL34 tubes through a phone/pc speakers. It sounds like a modern day, beefed up JCM800 through my studio headphones.
Marc Foust sounds like the guitar and the settings are wrong
The stealth 6L6 is what came after the standard 5150III, and before the EL34. It has more gain in the pre amp and all of the extras that you can't get with the 5150III. Awesome amp.
Amazing amp exactly what Im looking for .....awesome guitar playing
This looks awesome 🤘🏼
Another one for you and I to demo! Can't wait for you to get one. A demo will be done here soon too!
EVH Gear TV haha was wondering when you’d show up bud 😘 I’m hoping for a stealth next for the collection, this looks awesome though doesn’t it
Sure does. Just made room on the shelf behind me for it!
EVH Gear TV I need shelves ☝️
Coming soon to EVH Gear TV. Love the video Frankie as always. Kick ass EVH Gear Team!
It definitely has a snarl to it. I’m sure the guy playing accentuates it as well.
I created an impulse response using eq match from the red channel demo part... I use It in my GE200... The sound is amazing...
No hate, this guys playing is totally incredible, especially that clean part but Eddie should be demonstrating all of these!
EL34 vs 6L6 is really a matter of taste. I like both. I really like the dual concentric pots that make the 3 channels more usable. I would like to see a global boost available on any channel. Add a EQ pedal to the fx loop you got it. For me, if any amp has 3 channels. I expect an awesome clean channel. I am torn between the 2 newest 50 watts versions. I like 6L6, but not into the white and black look. Most of the tone is influenced from the preamp section. Ultimately, I would prefer to chose which power tubes are used. I see why both models are offered.
Listen with headphones if you have issues with the fuzzyness. Sounds way more full
Listening to this makes me glad I’ve kept my old peavey 5150.
How about trying this amp before making such a bold statement
I looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove this amp!!!!
that is Sick!! and clean too.. bad ass amp. thanks for a few different styles... good demo
Eddie you look great man keep rockin
The amp is the fountain of youth, eh?
Looking great too
@@wonderweston2820 HUMOR REALLY ISN'T DIFFICULT
it's finally there!
Awesome playing, wow nice breakup for a 50 watt head.
An awesome guitar player will make you wanna buy this amp.
I'd love to hear Paul Gilbert on one of these
Incredible playing
I think any fizz might be due to mic placement? Because mine has zero fizz and way more EL34 M-type punch. Maybe needed to blend with a room mic or dual cone and cap mic. Anyways for anyone wondering this amp is a 10/10. I have it side by side with the 5150 IIIS and change my mind daily about which I prefer lol. But I’d say early VH this all day and later VH or
metal then the Stealth. Only because this with the gain low and volume up on blue channel nails early VH in my opinion. YMMV
I dunno why people are hating on this blue channel. It sounds fucking great here.
I think I just found my next amp :D
Probably one of the few videos on CZcams i like where there’s no talking. Most videos waste a lot of time just chatting shit.
They fixed the volume jump between ch1 and 2, nice gonna have to keep an eye out on this one.
I would never own an amp like this but I do think that's really cool how the knobs work.
very cool demo great playing nice style its a great amp i love it
take my money!
sounds phenomenal.
wonderful playing!
Hard to believe that's a 50W. Well done.
Headroom. Sorry for the late reply.@@Sorbzski99
Great demo Frankie!
That last solo was awesome just screamed in my pants
"Screamed in my pants"?? I'm going to have to start using that.
Don't know what all the complaints are about the Blue Channel, sounds badass in this vid.
Wow! I think I’m in love.
EL34 yum-yum 👍🏻🤘🏻🎸
Am I the only one dreaming of a 5150 III with the Fender Tonemaster technology ?
Sounds Amazing!
Van Halen thinks about everything, this app is awesome!
Great performance! I would still like to see what this amp sounds like if you use it like a 50 Plexi Marshall, and use an overdrive pedal on the clean channel with the power amp up past 5 for example to recreate the Yngwie tone. Cheers!
Damn, this guy has some chops.
Just got a brand new one still in the plastic for $400!
Be warned, this guy makes this amp sound a million times better than it actually is. I had it with matching cab and was debating whether to keep it or not, thought to myself maybe I just need to get used to it, although the blue channel is totally unusable. Five days after having it, it blew on me....so it went back and it wont be coming back. shame, I had high hopes for this amp.
Just because you don’t play as good doesn’t mean the amp is bad
Wow! What an amp!
Mine does not sound anything like this. 2nd channel on my set up is very warm, woody and vintage Marshall sounding. This sounds thin and grating. I'm guessing it is the way it is dialed in as well as this amp will change dramatically with different speakers/cabs. 3rd channel on mine is similar to the 2nd channel on the 6L6 version loads of gain and tighter. So now you have a really good clean channel, a real vintage Marshall like rhythm channel, and a lead channel. I do not miss my 6L6 version at all,to me that one was good for metal and you had to fight to tame it down for straight up rock. I love early VH sounds and this amp will do it closer than any combination I've had if you so desire. It's really hard to stop playing it. A much better amp for brown sounds and rock. If it was all I had, and vintage prices were omitted, I would have easily traded one of my excellent JCM800 2204's for this. I can get the same tones here and much much more.
CT Products Machine Shop hi there, just curious what speaker cab you use with this El34 version amp to get these sweet early Van Halen / vintage marshall Tone? Thanks
I could not have said it better. A clean pristine channel, a Classic Rock channel and a Metal channel, what more do you want ?
If you hear this amp played LOUD on the power section it sounds nothing like this fizzy stuff (sorry - no disrespect to demo artist) But these EL34 tube amp heads so great at volume. This sounds like he hasnt gotten out of the 12AX7 section.
Good demo!
Nice demo.
To me the clean tones sound better with el34s but the high gain stuff is real fizzy in the high end everything’s kinda thinned out. But none the less would love to have this amp. The low tunings I play in would balance out that fizziness I believe. Still love my OG 5150iii 50 watt.
Why isn’t Eddie demoing this
Ibe Kerkhoven Because he thinks it sucks. No master volume amp will ever sound as good as a non master volume amp as Eddie was using on the first 5 Van Halen albums and then he switched to master volume amps and it has been downhill ever since.
Because some prople could think that it sounds great just because of his hands playing.
@@rorycunningham5457 go play your Plexi then old man. This amp isn't trying to replicate those old tones van halen himself said his tone preferences have changed over the years.
@@rorycunningham5457 Sounds pretty good to me...
Wil cost 5,000 thousands if Eddie show this one 😂😂
Hearing R.kotzen + rik emmett influence there.nice demo
Dreams do come true
Glad I bought the 6L6 version
muy bueno lo de los controles independiente, tendria que fabricar la version 6l6 con gain y volumen independientes seria la gloria
