First want to say thank you. Bringing back memories of my youth. I remember Kearny. and Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips On Belleville Turnpike between Argyle PL and Beech St. Before my family left Kearny, I can recall that Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips became a pizzeria.
I am so old that I can recall there was a Shoprite on the corner of Stewart Ave and Beech St many, many, many, years ago. Torn down in the 80's I believe. Parking lot was on Magnolia Ave. I can even remember that Shoprite delivered your groceries if you did not have a car.
I do miss Kearny very much. It was my childhood town for many many years. Since I was like 3 when my family moved to Kearny from Harrison.
I would like to know if anyone has pictures of that Shoprite that was on Stewart AVE and Beech St?
So many things have changed since I was a young lad in Kearny. My first job was the Shoprite on Passaic AVE. My siblings worked in the Burger King. My mother worked in Two Guys in Kearny.
I hope I can get to Kearny, NJ one day.

Thank you so much for a pleasant journey. Very enjoyable for me. Born there in 1939 I lived in Kearny and have many fond memories of my youth spent there. Cultural shock seeing the dramatic structural changes, quite dramatic for me. We retired North Jersey for South Jersey some 20 + years ago and have not visited or been back to Kearny in that time. Also lived on Devon Street as well, near Bell Playground ( playground was a dirt field when I was a youngster.) I cast a vote for part two as well.

    K H S Class of 1975.
Went to “Saints “for grammar school
    Married at St. Cecilia’s church.
I remember going to the store Youth World on Kearny Ave. for the official school uniform.
    Mandee also on Kearny Avenue.
    Drug Fair for all prescriptions
Ben Franklins was a 5&10 for anything else that you needed.
    Johns Bargain Store
The A&P was a few doors away
Hygrade bakery was on the corner of Wilson Avenue and Kearny Ave.
    Phil’s Fish & Chips
Two Guys on Passaic Avenue. Does anyone else remember when they had a Merry Go Round?
My sister met her husband there.
I remember Boys Town on Belgrove Dr.
    Please do a part 2.

Big Stash's best in town and better than any of the chains. Grew up with those sandwiches. Also, further down just crossing the street to next corner there's a Mexican restaurant I believe. That use to be Kearny Liquor & Deli. My dad Victoriano Roca was the owner of that corner deli. The kids from St. Cecilia's would go there during lunch. My parents would treat the corner deli as a Peruvian restaurant. They'd sell rotisserie chicken on the weekends and a bunch of other Peruvian food. I'd say my dad was one of the pioneers of Peruvian cuisine in Kearny. I love this video. Loved reminiscing. Love Kearny. Graduating class of 2004 at Kearny High School :) God bless. Thanks Bill and your dad for this.
