    Hey Dads,
    Are you looking for the best hard drive adapter? I had a bunch of old IDE and SATA hard drives lying around and I wanted to access the data off of them so I bought a Sabrent USB 3.0 to SATA/IDE Hard Drive Adapter to connect these old hard drives to my computer.
    The Sabrent USB 3.0 to SATA/IDE Hard Drive Adapter worked great as long as the hard drive was not clicking on me or giving me other problems. WIth the SATA drive I just plugged in the USB 3.0 into my laptop and the HDD into the adapter and it mounted the hard drive with no problem.
    With the IDE HDD you need to connect the power cord to the hard drive which some with this hard drive adapter kit. Once you give it power and flip the on switch, it mounts the hard drive and you can recover the data that was on that old hard drive.
    The reason why I chose the Sabrent USB 3.0 to SATA/IDE Hard Drive Adapter is because of how many reviews this particular model has on Amazon. With over 10,000+ reviews, it has to be a good one!
    How many hard drives do you have lying around that you want to access the data of? Let me know in the comments below. I have 8 HDDs.

    Thanks for this! I have a faulty 2 TB Western Digital Hard Drive that I have successfully removed from the housing. It is making no noise at all when plugged in. There is power going in (the adapter board that plugs into drive lights up, but nothing from the USB ...it is not mounting). Was going to try and open it up and have a look until I spotted your video. It now seems highly likely that the SATA adaptor board that plugs into the drive is the culprit. Thanks link I'm about to pull the trigger and get one.

    Yeah, it's time for me to get one of these. As I've usually used some old computer to access old IDE drives. But that's highly cumbersome, with plugging them in and out, and having to reboot to check out another drive and so on.
    You could also run a DVD player/burner as well, right?
    And most likely I'll get all data on SATA drives, so it's good that you can still use the adaper as a SATA adapter if you'll no longer need it for IDE.

    Thanks for sharing your experience with the Sabrent USB 3.0 To SATA/IDE Hard Drive Adapter. It's always great to find a solution for accessing those old hard drives. I appreciate the detailed explanation of how it works, especially the power cord and the different connectors for IDE and SATA drives.

On the Zilkee advertisement, it implied you could get the data by merely plugging the hard drive adapter into a USB port on a computer. From what you have shown, that is probably not the case but instead, a person has to remove the hard drive from the old computer.

    Yeah I highly recommend these devices for recovering data. I have a different brand, but still - as long as Sabrent works that's what matters. I may have to get a new one though - I still have to look but I think I might of lost mine. Note that a CLICKING IDE or a SATA Hard Drive is considered dead and can't be recovered unless ya spend hundreds of dollars at a specialized lab. I ran into that problem when I tried to recover data for a friend of my daughter's. She nor I had enough money to hire a lab to do the dissection/donor drive process to get at the data.

    What type of power supply does the hard drive adapter need? And does it need to be plugged in for the hard drive to work if it's a 2.5 SATA hard drive? I read reviews on Amazon that the power supply can short circuit the USB ports, as well as the adapter itself. I think I'm better off buying a SATA only adapter cable that doesn't need the power supply.

    What if your hdd had files deleted? Can you use this to scan and recover them on a 3.5inch hdd?

    • @DadReviews
      @DadReviews  Před 2 lety

      probably not. You would need software to try to recover deleted files. I've used Disk Doctor in the past.

    Got the adaptor, plugged in my old laptop 2.5 IDE, listen to it spin up, but unfortunately it does not appear on my laptop! went into settings and found the info on it, it says it didn't migrate! (no idea what that means!) any ideas what i can do to access this drive would be very welcomed/

    • @DadReviews
      @DadReviews  Před 3 lety

      Sounds like it spin up, but doesn't mount for whatever reason... I've never heard of migration. Might wanna call or go to your local computer repair shop and see if they can give you any pointers.

    Can you get stuff off of like corrupted hard drives?

    • @DadReviews
      @DadReviews  Před 4 lety

      depends on how corrupt they are. If they are making a weird noise and are not mounting, then it's probably a hardware problem and you need someone who does HDD Forensics to get any data off. That's usually expensive. If the HDD mounts, then you should be able to get your files off without any issues.

    This is a good adapter, and it supports SMART to check and see if your HDD is failing, but I recently found out it has a problem recovering data from failing HDD's. It hangs when it hits a HDD error. It doesn't reset. If you're going to try using something like ddrescue to recover data from a failing HDD, this isn't the adapter you want to use, unless you want to babysit the recovery for hours/days unplugging it and plugging it back in.
