ACC | The BEST and WORST of Sim Racing! LFM GT3 @ Watkins Glen

- After a bit of time away, there’s no tougher sim to get reacquainted with than Assetto Corsa Competizione.
Today, I’m at Watkins Glen for the latest round of the Coach Dave GT3 Sprint on Low Fuel Motorsport, and it’s my first ACC LFM race in three weeks. I’m not going to lie… I’ve found it incredibly difficult to rediscover my pace.
As a result, I’m starting down in P15 on a grid of 24. I’m in a higher split as car 22, so the odds are against me here. Can I spring a surprise?

That was an amazing battle. You both did so well not to take each other out. Mistakes are so easy to make in sim racing.
So you think you could do this level of commentary on a live race as the MC? If so you should send some of these videos to some broadcaster, they would snap you up.
I dunno mate, I think my lack of skills in pronouncing surnames may hinder me 🤣 also, I’m prone to losing my voice mid-commentary! At least on a sim video, I can pause for a drink 🤣
Lack of skills with surnames? Do you watch your videos back? I have never heard you purposefully or accidently get one wrong, plus commentators will ne given all pronunciations. Even Murry Walker made mistakes. I believe that if a mistake occurred most would give you the benefit of the doubt due to the warmth of personality.@@chrisrogerssimracing
I'm with chuckyeagar, the commentary is super. I'm not joking in saying it's as good as any live commentary on btc etc. Love it.
Unfortunately, so many people don't know the LFM rules of conduct. I think it's because of the casual approach to the simracing - they think they can hop in like it's forza motorsport, so no need to bother in accepting the platform rules. You will see it a lot in this ELO range obviously, but what strikes me the most is how aggressive those people are after the race, when you DM them and point the wrong stuff they do - they just have no clue. Once, after the race, I reported a guy - he just run me off the track like i was not there. I saw the he was streaming live so I joined in the moment he was commenting that report. When I introduced myself, chat members jumped me explaining me rules that they don't know ("I watch races for x years and he could do that! you are wrong! learn rules!"), got called a snitch for reporting the incident etc. Obviously the guy was banned but it got me wonder - you watch races for x years, you buy expensive gear, you take a virtual license. All of that just to destroy other people races without even understanding what you did. Racing is a special multiplayer game - one bad apple destroys fun for everyone else, it's not fifa or mortal kombat where if you suck - you make other player happy because they are winning. And there is literally not even one game or system that solved that issue - I'm not even sure if that's possible.
Yeah, this is it. I think a lot of gamers struggle t grasp the concept that, sometimes, you just CAN’T drive at full speed. Like, you have to account for the car in front or alongside you, and adjust your speed/braking accordingly. Real drivers have to do this all the time, but it’s not a natural thing to think of in gaming. I’d like to think I demonstrated really well how you should follow a car that’s slightly slower than you… I didn’t try to drive through him, and tried to create my openings fairly (a lot of times, braking earlier or lifting off the gas when I didn’t want to) 😃
@@chrisrogerssimracing Yes you did the correct thing. The problem is - everytime I do this, racers behind me "feel the blood" and they simply ram me over 🤡

Haha, reminds me of my AC race at Hockenheim Ring last night in the Mazda Cup. Me and this guy Tito were going back and forth for like 4 laps, but I got him and finished 2nd. Great driving Chris. Hopefully I will catch you in a race soon brother. Thanks for the entertainment🏁
It’s great when a race like that comes along. It doesn’t happen often enough, so you definitely have to make the most of them when they do happen!

Gaaaaaaah! What a nailbiter!!! Another amazing race, Chris! That battle with Pizzo deserves some alternate camera angles to ramp up the tension even more! Yeah, as you said, driving cleanly can earn you a lot of positions, and this race was no exception.
Definitely. I actually had a bunch of clips from that battle in the original cut, but it pushed the video over 20 minutes (which is when I find viewer interest starts to dip). So I reluctantly decided to trim the footage of the battle a little bit!

That was exciting. Real edge of the seat stuff. I know full well the frustrations that can happen at WG. Had one like that yesterday. Stuck behind one car who was defending for his life. I was much faster but was in that position after dropping it at the inner loop whilst 5th. Finally got past when he ran just slightly wide at that slippery right hander. Managed to sneak it in without hitting that kerb of ice.
Setup seems to be really important around here. I wasn't happy with the way my Ferrari was turning so played with the ride height to get more turn in. Led me to go sub-1.45 for the first time in quali. So, in the three races I had last night, got a second and another win. Also noticed what seems to be a bug in the LFM website. I'm one short of 300 races, with 19 podiums. But 19 is not 9% of 300, which is what LFM reckons my podium rate is ... unless my maths is wrong?
That’s some cracking pace, I got nowhere near that. A great opportunity to get those big results in and give your rating a nice boost! Yeah that ratio probably should be a little bit less than 9%, but maybe some of those 300 races were classed as unranked or something? No idea.

Indeed, how good is it when you have fellow racers in a lobby who respect racing etiquette, those moments as demonstrated between you and Pizzo can turn a bad race into such a rewarding one. Can’t beat it.

Awesome stuff once again Chris great racing,i think it should be compulsory to have radar and spotter activated before you can enter maybe that might prevent one or two incidents per race.
Yeah, I agree. The in-game radar in ACC is so good as well… I can’t understand why anyone wouldn’t use it.

Great video again! I recently qualified out of rookies in the close season and this does not fill me with confidence for what I'm going to find out there! Out of interest what was the ELO for this split?
ELO for this split was 1201. I think it was Split 3 out of 5. So not high, but not low either. A lot of mistakes being made out there, mainly when racing closely together. Possibly people driving without the radar on, or ignoring it.
had a similar experience today on my 1st LFM at Watkins glen. maybe cars should ghost at leat first lap. It was a disaster.
Sorry to hear that. It’s always frustrating when a race gets ruined so early. I was lucky here… even though I dropped right to the back, it actually made for a more enjoyable race. But that doesn’t happen very often!

What’s your sim of choice then mate? ACC is an odd one for me. Like you say, very lenient on damage, penalties, track cuts etc. Yet I find it the hardest to be competitive in.
Well done! You have to give space! 😅 Regarding crashes and unnecessary contacts well, that's one of the reasons I quit online.
Yeah, that’s exactly it, always leave space when you’re so close to someone. Not just to avoid crashing them out, but to protect yourself too 👍
