I'll be 66 next month, retirement age is 66 and 7 months for me. I remember telling my father that Social Security wouldn't be there for me. Calling it an entitlement is disgusting after we all paid into it our whole lives.

20 million Americans living solely on their Social Security (I'm one of them) use our earned benefits to pay mortgages, rent, food...essential things in life.
Screwing with our benefits is a crisis. The only thing that poses the problem is all Rethuglicons and a handful if bought-off Democrats.
So Americans better know who they are voting for. Doing some research before we vote is a great thing.

Agreed. Foreign national loans too. It’s legal money laundering scam all mortgage lenders are now doing. No documentation no visa, no seasoning on the down payment it wired to escrow directly. Not even a month or two in a USA bank. It should be required to be in a USA bank or credit union for one to five years. Money laundering is coming from all countries into the foreign government and people buying up our land and homes all non owners occupied because they are not supposed to live in it, rentals only. Who knows what foreign entities are buying up. No income, no employment, no Visa card, no passport even. That’s bullshit.

I worked at the courthouse in Cleveland County, Oklahoma during the 2008 real estate collapse. I was outraged that on sheriff sale day (houses sold at foreclosure prices) there would be operatives who came to the sale with little pads of $10,000 cashier checks to make their downpayments. They would snap up modest homes for dimes on the dollar -- and the biggest buyer was based in Malibu, California. Malibu! The real estate industry is amoral, and the case can be made that the industry engineers one financial crisis after another just to keep the market churning. It is all disgusting.

Any SS cap is ridiculous. Raise the standard deduction to further limit itemization. Raise the childcare tax credit back to pandemic levels. Do not tax anything below 20k per person. Lower tax rate to 10% until 50k per individual. Increase tax rate to at least 40% over $1MM per individual.

Yes, they are pensions. In the case of SSDI (disability) - it is insurance.
We paid in so we are entitled to it. Thus entitlements. Public assistance is not an entitlement program. It is a social program
No home for you, no food for you, no healthcare for you, no vacation for you, no school for you, nothing you buy will last longer than five years ( if you own it at all), and more than i can think of this moment. From my earliest days of work I heard "you'll never get that Social Security!" That was over sixty years ago. I've been receiving Social Security for the past six years.

Social Security is NOT an entitlement. I played in since 1975.
Anything the government gives you because a law says they have to is an entitlement. You do not get back what you put into it, as that money went to those who were currently collecting it. Social Security is not a savings account you get back when you retire. Those who are currently working are paying those who are currently collecting. Although what you pay into it does determine how much you can get from it. There are many people who never get Social Security because they do not live long enough, yet they also paid into it. Any income earned over $160,000 is not taxed for Social Security, remove that cap to fix the program.
Social Security is an entitlement, as the taxed money goes directly into the governments hands where the money is redistributed wherever it is needed. There are laws that say the government must do these things.
Social security is an entitlement... but more strictly from the definition of the word. To be entitled is to have a right or a claim to something. Entitlement is the state of being entitled, the state of having a claim to something.
Retired people have a right to get money from the state (which comes from the people for the case of this program)
But it's a well deserved right. It's necessary. Even of you have a million dollars saved up in retirement funds that were tied to the stock market and grew well beyond a million dollars. You still deserve social security (whether you take it or decide to give it up to someone else in need is another moral question...).
Why do you deserve money from society? Because you put in fuckin' 40+ years of work FOR the society. No matter the line of work you were in. You helped the society and you deserve to stop working now that you're older and the least we could all do is have a Thank You pool of money set aside by the current generations.
It's not "getting back what you put in"... that's such a selfish, self-centered mentality.
It's giving and supporting people that have worked to build the society you currently live in.
They deserve it.

Another trend I observe is the defunding of public education. The ones in power are meanwhile sending their own kids to private schools. This has two effects: uneducated people are easier to manipulate, and less competition for their own children.

I agree with your position but we should be focused on preventing Tdump from becoming the next US president; focusing on his economic problems, although it could be very satisfying, is not in the best interest of the American people. Talking about President Biden’s accomplishments could be more effective and useful for next general elections.
